Weather Is Coming - Final
🕑 Added 2019-09-21 23:07:49 +0000 UTCAbout a week ago I was going through old folders of artwork to back things up and in search of an image that I remembered doing, but couldn't remember _when_ I had done.
While I did eventually find that image, I also came across the flat colours of this image from one year ago. September 2018. I was surprised it had been that long really. Time feels like its just been charging along, and suddenly its a full year later and I never even got into laying out the lighting for this image.
It's one of those pictures that screamed 'early September' to me. Lorrnathi Farmers from the Cydwyllan borough deciding, perhaps casually, to call it a day as a storm edges in from the west and head to the Whistling Keg pub about a mile up the road. The trees were only just starting to sport sporadic yellow leaves (modeled after one of the trees outside the studio window here) and the grasses still haven't turned. Early to mid September just as the harvests were just starting to be pulled in, as the Aegencald gets colder quicker than on the main continent.
Over the last week or so I 'hid out' and dabbed away at this. It provided a pretty phenomenal escape from a lot of the turmoil that had sprung up in reality, and my mind's attempts to digest all of it. In the end this was around 40 hours of work. It may not be the finest art out there, but it was a lot of fun to do.
I think tomorrow I need to go out and walk amidst the falling leaves though. This absolutely wrecked my shoulder, and I definitely could use a break from staring at a screen. Plus, the trees have started to really turn vibrant yellow here and are shedding leaves like rain.

It was entirely my fault. There are warning signs that were happening that should have clued me in that this was overworking the shoulder and neck. I'm looking into ways to better position the tablet while I work. Right now I can mostly just wobble in a circle under the falling leaves, but I'll take it.

I'm hoping to get the companion to this one done in the near future as well. It proves to be the more difficult of the two since its in a semi-crowded pub with a lot of characters wandering about.

Cinders would very much be running around under leaves at this point, waiting for the first to fall in her territory. She gives her hello to the first leaf of autumn each year. The little yellow bits are leaves. When I started colouring this the trees still had a lot of green in them with these bright shocks of brighter yellow/green hiding within them. Now and then you would see a lone leaf drift by, sometiems a handful, so I added those to the tree in the back. Here I am just about a week on and some of the trees have turned completely yellow. A few are even bare. It goes quickly here, but the vistas while the days wear on are nothing short of amazing. My favourite part of the year by leaps and bounds.

<i>"Hiya, leef!"</i> Nice seeing more of the Lorrnathi. Interesting how the Old Timer's coloring echoes the theriomorphic fellow on the left. Probably picking nits here, but I was wondering about that dab of yellow in the sky, almost in the center of the image. A yellow <i>leef? Mmm</i>aybe not. A bolt of lightning? Could be. A great piece of art? Well, <i>I</i> think so.
