🕑 Added 2023-12-27 16:40:18 +0000 UTCOne of a couple commission pieces I was working on over the last couple of months is finally completed and I was given kind permission to share it here.
It's one of those pictures I'm biased towards, because.. Well.. Wolves! But also an image featuring family. I guess the thought of family has been pretty forefront in my thoughts lately, and this image was steeped in it.
It also let me try and experiment with rounded buildings again. I tend to draw 'medieval' buildings which are square and stacked and while often uneven, they're easy enough to get into perspective. Round buildings like huts are way out of my wheelhouse. Getting the perspective right is one thing, getting the lighting right is another.
So a gift, for the little wolf, before her Dad has to head off on a journey. The weather in this was meant to depict early-ish autumn (since that's when I started it) and looking out the window, the only differences here are that the leaves have fully fallen off of the trees. It's still brown, and without snow, and so weird. Yesterday it even nearly hit double digits Celsius again.
I'll be working on the second commission, and the sketch-work as well over the next few days as we wander towards 2024. The days have at least felt like they've slowed down a little, even if factually they haven't.
I'd like to try a couple more family pictures down the line. Cinders and Berrand have a fairly large family, and it's one of those subjects you don't see a lot of in fantasy art. Characters within rarely mention family, or if they do, it's often denoted that they somehow died. At least in the case of this lupine family, the opposite is true.

The wolfish people on Felwroth are equally as family/pack oriented as well. They've kept a lot of those traits from their animalistic side I guess. :)

I love this charming family moment! Everybody KNOWS Wolves are bloodthirsty carnivores that only care about their next meal, right? No, this is very accurate, they love their kids, and whether it's a shiny necklace or a piece of fox hide the owner no longer needs, they do give their youngsters gifts.
