Info on update + Poll
🕑 Added 2024-12-08 19:14:30 +0000 UTCHello! Gaijin finally updated their GitHub project which allows me to update the mod. Expect this update to come out next week. It'll feature a new Viggen RWR, F-15E version of the mod, and a lot more. Full details will be in the patch notes.
Furthermore, as we near the next major update already, I wanted to make a poll about the future of the mod.
Over the next year, we'll start to see more and more modern aircraft get added to the game. These aircraft are very restricted when it comes to public information about them. Especially when it comes down to niche specifics such as their RWR sounds. This means, that like the JAS39 Gripen, it won't always be possible to source and give these aircraft their own RWR sounds.
With this in mind, I'm willing to offer a solution. The focus of this mod has been to stay realistic where it's possible, with some minor tweaks. For the newer aircraft where I'm unable to get the sounds, I'm willing to create new custom RWR sounds for them. I'll strive to make sure these sounds keep a realistic feel, based on what the previous RWRs sounded like from the same manufacturer.
I feel like this is a better solution than just using the default sounds, but please vote below to let me know if you'd like to see this become a thing in the future.
Keep in mind this is only specifically for the modern aircraft which I'm unable to get the actual RWR sounds for. Any aircraft which I can get the actual sounds for will just use those instead.

I was using the Mirage RWR noises on the dev server in the Eurofighter and I noticed that the MAW still uses the default sounds. I presume that there just wasn't any available real-world sound for it, but with this in mind, do you have any intention of making custom MAW sounds for existing RWRs? Or maybe something else, cause it's a little jarring going from these custom RWRs to knock-off Tomcat

I just think the game just feels better when you have different rwr sounds for different planes, it isn't so monotone.

Yes, not this update but the one after that. Which will happen when Gaijin updates their project for the Storm Warning update. Busy times

I definitely appreciate the offer. I've generally been considering opening a channel where people can submit sources for real sounds they found or ones that are custom-made. Might do that when I go through with the proposal in the poll

I do still have those sounds. I actually figured out those belong to the RWR of the A-4 Skyhawk. Could be tho that a specific variant of the F-4 uses the same RWR. I haven't checked. Atm, I'm using the F-4E one in the mod

Definitely all for this. The goal of this is to make RWRs in general feel more realistic, and while we can't get actual sounds for these modern radars, you can definitely make something that sounds more real to the aircraft than the knock-off Tomcat RWR sounds currently in the game. Perhaps something could be done with those sound files I (think) I sent a while ago that I thought belonged to the Phantom before the DCS release

honestly i don't mind too much. id prefer if the sound where e distinct form the default one but. understand this it will be a challenge. for the most part I'm not too fussed I'm fine if you want to uses sound from other relater aircraft as a place holder as eventually these things will come out.
