"You're wasting your twenties," she snapped, standing in the doorway of our apartment's tiny living room, her leggings already halfway on. "You sit on your ass playing that stupid game all day. You could at least... try. Come to the gym with me. Once."

"Whatever," she said, pulling her hair into a tight ponytail, the kind that made her look like an Instagram ad for protein bars. "I'm going to spin. Maybe try standing up once today.”
“Maybe try not to fall for some dumbass jock,” I muttered under my breath. She paused as she grabbed her water bottle, but she still walked out, her Lululemon-clad ass swaying with practiced indifference.
The door clicked shut. I was alone again, the room suddenly too quiet.

A few hours later, Kaylee came home from the gym practically buzzing with excitement. I was exactly where she’d left me – sunk into the couch, controller in hand, headset around my neck.
"I’ve got a surprise for you," she said, waving a glossy little brochure like it was a winning lottery ticket.
I barely glanced up. "Let me guess – couples yoga?"
"Better," she said, and flopped down beside me, still damp with sweat and reeking of citrus body spray. She shoved the brochure into my lap.
It was all bold fonts and glossy pecs. MUSCLE CAMP.
I raised an eyebrow. "What the hell is this? Some kind of bootcamp?"
"Not bootcamp," she corrected. "Muscle Camp. Two full weeks away. It’s all-inclusive. They’ll teach you how to lift, how to eat right, how to bulk the right way."
I blinked at her. "You’re kidding."
“Nope,” she grinned. “One of the guys at the gym told me about it. He said it totally changed his body."
That got my attention. "You talk to guys at the gym?"
She gave me a look, then leaned in, voice dropping just enough to make the hair on my arms stand up. "Only the big, strong ones," she murmured, letting her fingers trail along my non-existent bicep. "That’s kinda what I like, y’know? A man with big... bulky... muscles...”
I swallowed and looked down at the brochure again. The guy on the cover was grinning, shirtless, holding a barbell like it weighed nothing.

The place didn’t look half bad. Two guys to a cabin, and it didn’t look cheap – cabins tucked under tall trees, a lake in the background, everything clean and sun-drenched. The bus smelled like vinyl, sweat, and expired air freshener. I sank into my seat near the middle and immediately regretted everything.
This was a mistake. A huge, dumb mistake.

The bus rumbled to a stop on a gravel loop surrounded by pine trees and the sharp smell of cedar. A carved wooden sign read MUSCLE CAMP in bold block letters, and in the clearing beyond, I could see a scattering of log cabins, a low lodge building, and what looked like a full outdoor gym.
Barbells glinted in the sun.
There were maybe twenty of us left after the Bottom Camp drop-off, and we piled off the bus one by one, grabbing our duffels from the undercarriage.
A mountain of a man stepped forward from the lodge porch, arms the size of tree trunks and a wide grin. “Welcome to Muscle Camp!” he bellowed. “I’m Blake, one of the trainers and your best friend for the next two weeks.”
He clapped his hands, and I swear the echo came back faster than light.
“You’re gonna get stronger, you’re gonna get smarter – about lifting,” he winked. “And you’re gonna eat like kings. But first... cabin assignments.”
He called out names in pairs and sent us off with little paper maps. When he got to me, he shouted, “Hunter… and Jay! Cabin Five!”
I glanced at Jay, who was already looking at me with a neutral, raised-eyebrow expression. We started walking.
Cabin Five looked like it had been pulled from the pages of a high-end adventure catalog. Two queen-sized beds framed by polished log headboards sat opposite a picture window. Wooden shelves lined the walls, slate tile covered the floor. The bathroom was compact but sleek – more slate in the shower, plush towels rolled on a cedar rack, and a faint scent of eucalyptus in the air.
As soon as we dropped our stuff, I turned to Jay.
“Hey, just to be clear,” I said, rubbing the back of my neck. “I’m cool with you being gay, but like… can we keep it chill? No nudity, no bringing guys back here, and definitely no trying to fuck me.”
Jay laughed. “Not unless you beg for it, bro.”

Just then, a knock hit the doorframe. Blake’s giant frame leaned into view.

“Great! Welcome feast starts in thirty. Big hall by the flagpole. Don’t be late – we don’t let food go to waste.”

The dining hall smelled like roasted meat and baked potatoes. We packed our plates high. It was a buffet worthy of a viking raid – steak, grilled chicken, roasted sweet potatoes, quinoa, fruit, eggs, even pancakes.
Once everyone was seated, a new guy stepped up to the front platform.
He had silvering buzzed hair, deep tan skin, and arms so jacked it looked like his veins had their own veins. The guy was build like a comic book hero. He grabbed a mic from a little podium and smiled.
"Evening, boys. I’m Logan. Head trainer here at Muscle Camp."
A low murmur ran through the hall.
"Before you dig in, I want to say something important: this is a magical place. And I don’t mean that metaphorically. I mean it literally."
That got everyone’s attention.
"Do ten reps on a bench press here, your chest will grow. Not someday. Not gradually. Right then. The magic at this lake – you’re going to hurt, you’re going to heal, and you’re going to grow bigger than you ever thought possible."
He started pacing slowly, looking around the room.
"We’ve got expert trainers for one-on-one planning, to help you with form and help you push past your limits. You won’t believe what we can do here."
Then he pointed. "You. Stand up."
A skinny guy halfway down the table stood, blinking in surprise. Logan motioned him to the front.
"What’s your name, bud?"
"Robbie."
"Robbie, you want bigger shoulders?"
The guy laughed. "Uh, yeah. Of course."
Logan grinned and handed him two twenty-pound dumbbells. "Let’s start with a standing shoulder press. Just ten reps."
Robbie lifted, unsure, but played along. The room watched in silence.
By the sixth rep, something started happening. Robbie's shoulders started to swell – visibly. By the tenth rep, the sleeves of his t-shirt looked tight.
He dropped the weights, staring at himself. Logan clapped him on the back.
"Go ahead, take the shirt off. Let the boys see."
Robbie hesitated a second, then peeled it off. The hall erupted in cheers and whoops.

Jay sat up straighter, clearly ready. I just shrugged. “Uh, I don’t know. I guess I want to be… balanced? Proportional. Not, like, huge in one area and nothing in another.”
Blake nodded thoughtfully. “Solid. What about you?”
Jay grinned.
