Unless the weed enthusiast lives with their parents, part of the issue is also boundaries. The parents are treating them like they're still a kid living at home. I have no issues with weed use, but the bigger issue is that the parents need to step off. If the question asker were to frame it that way -- "I'm an adult. You can feel however you want about how I spend my time at home, but you don't get to decide what's that looks like. If you want to stop talking to me because you can't control my life, that's childish, but that's your decision to make. I'll be here when you come to terms with that." -- then at least the parents can't try to make it into "Smoking weed is more important to you than your own family??" and they'll learn the lesson that they can't stomp their feet and get their way anymore. They'll come around, or they won't and nothing of value was lost.

We watch the World Cup ("soccer") every time it's on TV but it happens much less frequently than once every year. I think that helps.

The idea is for them to be hopefully somewhat non-life-changing, I'd prefer not to destroy an audience member, which is why I've generally tried to avoid the more super-serious ones I've received, although maybe these were super serious to these people, so I don't know.

Weed should be viewed more like booze. Similar situations. Okay to invite once in awhile but you have a problem if you can't function without it. We celebrate parents drinking but people would have a heart attack if they saw a meme about parent smoking dope to deal with their children.
