One of the things I like the most about doing these Extra Doses is telling you about some weird little news story that you might have missed. This is the type of stuff I loved doing on my channel, that I did a LOT of back in the day, but nowadays doesn't suit "the algorithm". So I try and keep the "big idea" stuff for my weekend videos, while using these Extra Doses to tell you about some funny little story happening somewhere and how it fits into the big picture as well. Enjoy!
Most honest fans of Anime or Japanese pop culture will tell you that the land of the rising sun has yet to shine a light on some of the social issues that North Americans seem to care deeply about, like... oh, I don't know... the over-sexualization of teenagers? But one small group in Japan is trying to politely make their voices heard. Is it the sign of change? Or as futile as trying to knock over Mount Fuji by pulling a pebble from its base?

I enjoy anime and I'm obviously a cosplayer, but I get the idea of the protest. But it doesn't make sense to protest just one. The bigger issue is the sexualization of 14 year old REAL girls. That's the age of consent over there. That should be the focus. Not anime. I don't think they make them high schoolers for the age concept usually, but rather to add more to a story line and make it relatable to a larger portion of their audience.

Rewatched it recently because I've been watching sparkly magical girl shows to alleviate lockdown depression and there isn't really anything "pervy", but a lot of the plot is surprisingly heavy. The age gap romance is because that's what the target audience of tween girls finds appealing and buys. That said, I vaguely remember them being aged up for the english version..

Wow you learn something everyday. Didn't know the sailor scouts were only 14. Thought more like 17. Never really considered it pervy but since I have only seen half episodes (School mornings were that I and then afterwards my brother would use the shower and my step sister would watch Sailor Moon and then me and my brother would watch whatever afterwards before going to school so I always caught the backend of Sailor Moon. Unfortunately this didn't stop me having the theme song stuck in my head even now).
