Hey everyone, it's Friday and it's time for your early access to the weekend video! This week, it's a Dose about a copyright lawsuit I found out about that might be one of the most absurd abuses of power I've seen in a long time. Enjoy!
Anyone that's been on the Internet since the 90s will tell you that we've seen a massive shift in copyright enforcement. From the wild west days of “download brand new games from direct links on this website, no one will care!” to the modern day mindset of “if you play 6 seconds of a clip of our song in your YouTube we'll pursue legal action!”, there MUST be a happy medium. If there is, Eric Clapton's not going to be the one to find it, as he and his legal team sued a 50 year old German woman who was trying to sell ONE single CD on eBay that her late husband bought in the 80s. Buckley looks at the insanity of this case, the aftermath, and the history of companies deciding to go after individuals for ridiculous amounts of money instead of trying to solve the real issue.

I can still remember that at that time many of these "Live USA" CDs were available in record stores here in Germany. It's ridiculous to treat this the same way as illegal bootlegs.

The never learned any lessons in the past or their own mistakes at all. That is why piracy is became widespread problem like wildfire because of these stupid action lawsuit from copyrignt holder to customer instead of illegal distributor. Another problems are stupid DRMs and region locked. Instead of making money by allowed everyone to buy or subscription access contents abroad with reasonable cost adjusted each regions either physical and digital contents (also come with fully-enforced age restriction for some sensitive contents), they blocked it to specific market and piracy run like hell to getting around this stupid obstacle the copyright holders and/or content creator did to protect their IPs in the first place.
