Hey everyone, it's Early Access day, and as promised on Tuesday, we're looking at another list! Last year many of you seemed to enjoy my review of the Billboard Year-End Hot 100's Top 10 songs (what a mess of a sentence!) so this year I'm doing it again. I used to do a Musical Autopsy most Januaries as a followup to my Worst Songs video, but now you get basically 10 mini-Autopsies. I'm not sure if subjecting you to MORE pop music is actually better or worse... but either way, enjoy!
A brand new annual tradition! Buckley "reviews" the songs that appeared in the top 10 of Billboard's Year-End Hot 100. In 2021, Buckley actually admitted to enjoying 2 of the songs... will he enjoy any of 2022's songs?

Oh man, I lost it at the Glass Animals diss. That was some seriously fantastic writing. I think I'd only heard maybe one of these songs... as a remix. Am I really so out of touch?! ... No. No it's the children who are wrong.

Here's a thought, by the way my grammar's going to suck lol ,so here goes, how about old man Buckley does his top 10 most liked songs and why he thinks they should receive an award

Yeah, that's "Anti-Hero" (which I made the visual joke about at the very end of the video). Her, 5 years too late, trying to be self-effacing about people saying "Maybe Taylor Swift should make a song called I'm The Problem" after all the breakups she's had!"
Michelle
I think Levitating was the defining song (again) of 2022. At least I still kept hearing it everywhere, and it's the song I most think about with 2022, That and that fucking I'm the Problem (whatever it's called) Taylor Swift song, but these days only Millennials listen to Taylor Swift.

As someone with a real Aussie accent, I reckon yours is pretty spot on
Adam Buckley
Thanks, I've really been working on it. Most of the time it's closer to a New Zealand accent, but I'm glad people enjoy it.

Sometimes longevity trumps a #1. If you had a #1 for 2 weeks and then it just dropped down the charts, vs having a song in the Top 10 that lived there for 3 months... the second one likely means you had more streams/sales/airplay/etc. Example, "Ghost" spent 12 weeks in the Top 10 but only reached #5. Drake's "Jimmy Cooks" was #1, but only spent 5 weeks in the Top 10. However, Lizzo's "About Damn Time" was #1 AND spent 22 weeks in the Hot 100, ended up at #12 on the Year-End Hot 100. So... I don't know. They're supposedly scoring it objectively and fairly based entirely on the same metrics, so obviously something I'm not seeing there.

“I don’t know what this says about Aussies” - that the ARIAs are a joke just like the Grammys and heaps of us think The Kid Laroi is as good/authentic as Iggy Azalea

Wat a fucking song Uptown Funk was, though. Born in the wrong generation and all that. I wish I were around when that song was released.
Pim
Yeah but by the same token you can't make the argument you're making about Adele, can you?

Lost my shit at the Aussie accent and "Now get me another Great Northern tinnie, ya cunt!"

Okay these charts are just confusing now, most of these weren’t even number 1 hits

Yeah, I can't remember what video it was (my "Nostalgia" video?) but I still believe that people of a certain age shouldn't be talking about "the good old days" or "how it was" or be calling anyone else "kids". The average 25 year old has MAYBE been in the real world for 5 years? Maybe dipped their toe in the water a bit before that if they had a part time job in their teens? And maybe they're more "worldly" than I was as a kid, but many people have a VERY NARROW IDEA of what's going on in the world news-wise until they're in their 20s (maybe they hear about the big big stories, hopefully they know who the President is, but they don't REALLY know what's going on in the world yet). So yeah, a 28 year old talking about "As it Was" is always going to annoy me.

Love this new annual tradition
MerrittJ!
28 is still young though..so are the 30s And 23/24 is very young too. I get your point but I remember you calling 23 “a baby” in terms of life. And 24 “really young”
