Hey everyone, it's Bonus Dose day and I have a question for you: how many of you still have cable, satellite, or network TV in your homes? I personally haven't had it for over a decade, and I have a feeling a lot of younger people don't. So, this week's video may not surprise you when you find out that a reality TV show that has seen a major decline in ratings isn't producing the stars it used to, and the winners are actually getting royally screwed. Enjoy!
If you can believe it, American Idol is STILL on TV. Unfortunately, American Idol (and network TV in general) doesn't have the... prestige... it once had, and so winning it doesn't result in the same level of stardom that people like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood enjoyed after their wins. Buckley looks at a recent American Idol winner who somehow ended up owing the show money. More fun with the predatory music industry!

I have not had cable/satellite TV of my own volition ever. Any TV that I saw, it was someone else's set & usually someone else paying the cable bill. (Big examples: my parents paying for it when I was growing up, my college common lounge areas, my roommate who worked for a cable company). I have been legally classified as an adult for almost 11 years, and I have never purchased or been given a TV.

I don’t know what to say. The fact that Samantha has to resort to singing on the subways again to earn money tells me just how depressing her situation is. The fact that she has to work really hard to help her grandmother buy food and take care of her. She doesn’t even talk to her own mother. And the fact that you have to have a really sad story Just so that people will even consider you. It’s really sad.

I have not had a cable package for as long as I can remember since I've been an adult on my own which is like 10 years. Only people that have cable packages are people like my grandpa

My God, that’s my dad, too. He pays 140 a month for cable to watch westerns he saw forty years ago that he can quote beginning to end.

As a Chase, I am appalled by the horrendous way that idol winner’s name is spelled 🤢
We still have cable, but literally only my dad uses it. He simply can't live without westerns (there are now 5 exclusively western channels), old 80s action movies, and sports.
