Hey everyone, it's Bonus Dose Day, and the arguments for and against tipping continue to rage on the Internet. Always interesting that people have such strong opinions over how much OTHER PEOPLE are worth and what they should be paid. Anyway, in case you hadn't heard, the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, bought a restaurant, and have decided to try something never attempted before in the food service industry: paying their employees a more-than-fair wage! So... you can guess how the Internet's taking that. Enjoy!
South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are used to having people consider them controversial, though that's normally over their vulgar and violent cartoon that's managed to lampoon everyone and everything possible. But now people believe it's controversial that they're... paying their employees a decent wage?! Buckley looks at the story of how they purchased a restaurant and decided to pay employees $30/hr (with one tiny catch) and the reactions from various Internet goobers.

Bad employees are bad employees even if you bribe them. Sometimes an awful waiter will be awful regardless what they are paid because they're just not good at the job or they're just generally a lazy asshole who doesn't care about any work they do.

I exclaimed "What the fuck was that" right as you said "What the fuck did I just watch." Spot on prediction.

This is a great idea. Tip sharing basically eliminates any incentives for good service, so nothing lost there. My only concern is that it'll flop because prices on the menu will be higher to include what would have otherwise been a tip and people will think it's too expensive. I hope it works out, though. It'd be nice to have a high-profile success for other US restaurants to look at for an example.
