Hey everyone, it's Early Access Day! Every once in a while I see comments like "Buckley doesn't seem as angry as he used to be, I miss when he was really pissed off"... well, strap in this week, as I give you basically a sequel to a video from 9 years ago, one of my most notorious Doses about movie theaters. And yes... I talk about the fuckin' disgrace that is the Minecraft "Chicken Jockey" Meme. Enjoy!
Buckley really puts the "rant" back in rant comedy as he goes off on a number of topics including: adults who are upset about the new Snow White movie, people trashing the theatre during the Minecraft movie, and the industry's newest ideas for getting people to show up, such as offering pickleball, booze, weed, and yes, once again floating the idea of letting the kiddies play on their phones, because it turns out, the audience they want is "people who don't have the attention spans to actually sit still and watch a movie". But has no one thought "maybe people just don't want to spend $60 for 2 people to go see a movie?"

I used to love the theatres, I would go with my dad every weekend, sometimes multiple times in one weekend. That was 20 years ago. I am sad I will not share that experience with my kids due to the greatly increased prices.

I didn’t realize everyone’s theaters were still so fucking bad and expensive. I’ve got a Harkins near me, and every Black Friday they do this “popcorn perk” deal, basically it’s up to 60 medium popcorns for the whole calendar year for $35. Plus, every year they drop a cool design on a reusable cup that you can refill for $2.50 all year. Tickets range from 12-15$ but I save so much on concessions I hardly notice. Personally I haven’t gone a ton of movies in the last 6 months or so, because for every 1 decent movie there 3 slop fests. Honestly, that’s late stage capitalism for you though, when every movie has to be a blockbuster that rakes in millions, every story needs to be low hanging fruit in order to pack theaters, which by your video, doesn’t seem to be a great strategy. It’s a very sad state in film and most art right now.
