Weird, I didn't get a notification for this post. Love it though, whenever Tabitha gets grilled on future stuff it's always fun.

The ipod really didn't get big until after 2004. It wouldn't have been in a price range for until about 2005, when the shuffle was released. Although I do agree the Matrix movies were better than Star Wars at the time they were also Rated R films if I remember correctly. So she would have probably been a little to young to see them. Also I honestly don't think her parents would have allowed her to see them.

Plus the most common complaint about 2 & 3 is Wine-a-kin SkyWalker “They won’t let me use my powers” plot. A much more plausible plot would have been had they disallowed him to be with Padme Amidala.

I love the way 4064 writes, and this story line is amazing. I have one sort of a criticism. Amazon IPOd in 1997, and grew to be a behemoth at the present times. Tabitha is into books and writing, but she never talks about it, which I find very odd. Even if Amazon collapsed soon, it couldn't be totally forgotten by the time she came back. I know she cannot put the money into Amazon now without her parents help, which would probably be hard. But still, she could tell about it, and would be a very good way to tell about her future knowledge. There is also Ebay and Paypal. Also I would think Matrix should come into the dialogue some time. It released in March 1999 before the Phantom Menace. It was THE ultimate geek movie of that time for me. LOTR was much better in books, and Phantom Menace didn't impress me. I was already in late 20s by then :-). I remember using Google in 1998. It was still in Beta, with a prominent water mark across it. I used to use Altavista before it. Google even then was much better, running from their dorm room server.

Where does Tabitha stand on Darth Jar Jar? Will she drop that on Casey (and maybe Alicia, post-movie)? She seems to be a little more than a casual fan, given that she knows a bit about Lucas's racing past.

Luke Mofford

I love that Tabitha completely forgets that they recast Anakin because the story jumps ahead 10 years between PM and AotC.

Porkopio

So Tabitha is that kid-down-the-road in the story lol. Not a fan of star wars since it did not start in my generation and internet was not a thing yet to watch old stuff or torrents as well.

I am surprised that there is no mention of the early amazon and Powells books. Running into those in 98 was awesome because I could read about things that I could never find a b Dalton or borders.

Stultus

I've always liked Tabitha's story just because it always, always managed to immerse me in this particular era of America. Being an Australian, America is something that is both near and far, and it is fascinating to read from the point of view of someone who lived these times, and also outlived our times. Even if the second perspective of Tabitha doesn't get used so much, I still find it interesting how the audience is sort of drawn into the book just by the fact that Tabitha is from our own future, and gone back to our past.

An example of everything else, is box office numbers and opening weekend statistics. The only way normal newspapers reported on that kind of thing was for near record breaking movies, or when lines were long (ET comes to mind, it still had lines half-year after it was released). Otherwise people just didn't pay attention.

Anon Donner

Agree with your point about being in the dark regarding upcoming movies and everything associated with them. Paradoxically, at least for SF and Fantasy genre, the interest was also more intense. Mostly because there weren't that many movies and TV shows in that category. So with less out there, the ones that made it got more attention.

Also and this is something I am NOT sure about because it's been a while since I read through the entire story. But since when does Casey know? I just went back because I thought she told everyone on her birthday party but I didn't find anything in chapter 48 it may be in 47 I guess? But still the point remains that beginning of this "part 4" extremely jarring to me.

Gopard

Uhh, is it just me or is the jump from the "part 3" here really big? Like Casey was last mentioned I think 3 whole chaptery ago during the party in the ice-skating-hall but now suddenly Alicia is talking to her about all kinds of stuff when it was just Tabitha and her familie(s) for the last chapters? Just felt really sudden especially since both Alicia and Casey are last seen at the party and now they are both somewhere else and talking about pretty big things with any mention of time or place for the scene. I would recommend to at least add one paragraph to smoothen the scene change and set up the background before just barging into a conversation like that.

I totally agree with the fun of the line and even the energy as we waited for it to start - we had beach balls going on in our theater...I think the biggest problem was that episodes IV and V were written for adults, full stop. Episode VI started to pander to merchandising (Ewoks), and the journey to the dark side of making them fully children's movies was complete 20 years later in episode I.

It's another contrast I wanted to play with; Elena is rigorous and severe with her belief, Casey is pretty whimsical and casually will believe any number of things as it doesn't seem to cost her much to do so. If you asked them each, Elena would scoff at the idea of aliens, Casey would be very open to the idea of life being out there somewhere.

Matt

It seems like Casey believes her, which is surprising.

Tabs going through this with new perspective is mostly gonna be unforgiving on the writing aspects and indifferent to the technological achievements. The sheer blockbuster sort of epic spectacle a movie like Phantom Menace presented seems bland and by the numbers nowadays; the MCU movies mass produce that formula now.

FortySixtyFour

I was young enough to be pretty forgiving; I liked it but didn't love it. The OT was just too high a bar for Phantom Menace to live up to. I think that's basically the case for a dozen different 80s franchises that just were too damn amazing.

Fun fact, the trade federation guys were revealed after the fact as carricitures a of Ronald Reagan and newt Gingrich. Search up Nute Gunray on wookieepedia and scroll to behind the scenes. Link here https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Nute_Gunray#Behind_the_scenes Dunno if tabs would know that or not but might be worth inserting with her relatively thorough knowledge.

Beau Bryant

I think the fun and energy of waiting in line for hours to see The Phantom Menace was better than actually watching the movie.

FortySixtyFour

ANH, ESB, and Andor are my favs. Mando s1 was also great, s2 started losing me. Brother and I grew up reading the X-wing books and several of the major EU trilogies over and over and over. Have heard great things about Clone Wars show but keep bouncing off that movie that starts all that off and just not wanting to continue.

Undead Writer

Thanks for the chapter!! Always love to read your story!
