McGddson

Thanks for the chapter, Forty! Happy New Year and hope the midwinter season is treating you well!

Doominator10

For us it's been years, but for Brian it's probably only been a week or 2 of actual conscious thought to get over years of mental/ emotional abuse. Both by Chloe and his parents. I get the weariness, but it's be weirder to me if he did get over it so quickly.

GaiusMarcus

Speaking in purely meta terms, Chloe will be with us until something worse comes along

Joe ?

I think if someone told you to your face that they were going to turn you over to a secret society of mind rapists if they ever got free, you'd be surprised at what you'd do to avoid that.

benjamin shropshire

There's story worlds where that works, but in the real world the long term effects on people who have to kill are far from nice. Doing it in cold blood would not be something that could believability just disappear from the story.

benjamin shropshire

I'm putting a plugged nickel on the turning point being something along the lines of the question "Do you like yourself as much a Christine liked herself?" Chloe will either refuse to answer or lie, be she will know what the answer is: she dislikes herself almost as much as she dislikes everyone else (with the first being the reason for the second). From that, the implied question becomes: "would you choose to be replaced by someone who likes themselves more?" (Tl;dr; "Chloe" dies, by choice, but Christine lives.)

benjamin shropshire

I'm all for that mother-of-all-arcs.

Joe ?

I want the next chapter to start with Rebecca just making an executive decision and snapping Chloe's neck lol

Too Much Sanity May Be Madness

Thanks for the chapter. As much as I don't like to see big problems easily resolved, I really don't think I could take another whole book with Chloe as an antagonist, so I'm hoping Christine shows up again soon.

Blue Dragon

Nothing like a Chloe viewpoint to make Emily's proposed solution and having her simply disappear seem like a reasonable and appropriate result.

Montugar

Chloe did nothing wrong. Obviously you people haven't been reading the same story!

Jeanie6754

Yep my guess that's how he deals with stressful situations

Dastauf

What!? Protagonist yes, but no way is Chloe a heroine! Let alone plucky. Forty.. what did you mean by that comment.. sarcasm?

GaiusMarcus

Brian needs to get over himself and get with the program. His constant insecurity is starting to wear a bit thin.

Jeanie6754

Don't worry about it happens with everyone whose at least partially empathetic. 😅 People mistake it as whining all the time 😞

Jeanie6754

Good one, Triple B 😜! Nice anime cliffhanger at the end there. 😏 Hopefully you had a good holiday. Makes sure to find time to relax today.

Stephen E Wilson Jr.

I don't see it as whining, he just woke up from a coma and he just barely had got the grips that magic was real before that. Now he has too fear evil mind control mages & be willing to harm others? He has to be conflicted, absent a visible threat to fight.

Stephen E Wilson Jr.

Man like Chloe is just cruising for her own destruction. In a world where with a mind-controling mages are out there threatening worse than death on you and your family....it's only a Saint that wouldn't mind-control Chloe immediately to at least get her to be non threatening.

Thomas Pruckner

Hooked as always - can't wait for this to continue and resolve!

AzureXIII

I am excited to see how our this is resolved I think the older generation of magical girls are what is going to be needed to fix this.

Captain the Red Beard

Man, kill her and move on lol. Not worth it, unless she has the mother of all redemption arcs. The drama ain't worth it!

FortySixtyFour

Whining?

MVFast

I’m getting a little tired of Brian’s whining. 🙁

Marcus Cassin

Not going to lie, I generally treat people with respect, but Chloe has crossed some lines. She's a broken human, and she either needs to be healed (and become Christine again), or put somewhere where she can't harm innocents (our plucky band of protagonists). If somehow the choices came down to "let her go or kill her", I would grab the knife. Apologies if this got a bit dark, and I assure anyone reading this that in real life, I am very aware I don't have the sort of insight that we have here in this story to generally feel this comfortable judging someone. (Though if I become a mutant and become the next Charles Xavier, you can bet your ass I would be using those powers to get all sorts of nasty criminals to confess and go face the law). Very curious to see how this plays out! My instincts say killing her is too dark of a twist, but how do we bring her back to a healthy, reasonable mind state? She's so broken she won't generally be receptive to it, and Brian doesn't exactly seem open to it, either...

Zach

"what about literally EVERYTHING he’s done to me?!" Girl, he's enabled your cruel streak, and infected you with vampire mojo to save you from being literally raped. That's all he's done to you. Sure, Rebecca has detoxed you from vampire mojo, and kept you for longer than strictly necessary, but that wasn't Brian.

Montugar

The plucky heroin being Chloe, the obvious protagonist

FortySixtyFour

Ninja edit fix'd some Steph position inconsistencies
