I can understanding Chae using honorifics. When I got married in 2004, I still called my father-in-law Mr. _____. To me, it just felt awkward calling him by his first name, and also I called him Mr. _____ just out of respect. He told me one time I didnt need to do that just call him by his first name. Eventually I did come around and started calling him by his first name. But in the begining it felt weird and I wanted to respect him.
