“Good? I think? It’s hard to say because of how stressed he is. At least he doesn’t have to worry about his horrible relatives anymore. I set them straight,” Tonks said proudly.
“What is he worried about? Voldemort?”
Tonks nodded. “And his friends icing him out. Dumbledore’s rule of no communication with him is insane. The only person who sends him letters anymore is Daphne,” Tonks muttered.
“You sound jealous,” Sirius noted, his gray eyes twinkling mischievously.
“I am,” Tonks replied with a simple shrug. She laughed at the surprised expression on her cousin’s face. “What, you expected me to deny it? Why should I? Harry’s hot, kind, and incredibly respectful, and I have a crush on him. Life is stressful, there’s a crazy bastard on the loose, and his company makes me feel better. “So you won’t have a problem if we get together?”
“I’d be absolutely delighted. Whether it be a summer fling like what I suspect you have in mind or something more serious,” Sirius said sincerely. “He needs someone like you.”
“Any tips? What does he like in a girl?” Tonks asked.
Sirius’ mood soured. “Wish I had some for you. I don’t really know him. All my time with him last year was focused on getting him through the tournament alive. He and Daphne don’t exactly have a conventional relationship. From what I saw, they fought and bickered all year. I was convinced they hated each other until I accidentally walked in on her giving him a hug and a quick kiss in the Hospital Wing. Thank Merlin I was in my animagus form or things would have gotten extremely awkward.”

She doubted Harry knew that, however, given how cutoff he was from their society.
“Has he been reading the books I gave you?”
Tonks nodded. “Every night, before bed. He’s hooked.” His enthusiasm didn’t surprise her. Every orphan wanted to know where they came from, and the books Sirius had gifted him through her contained the histories of the Potter and Black families.

By Sirius’ own admission, if he didn’t have children, the only ones who could inherit the Black fortune were Harry and Malfoy’s brat.
“Yep. And considering Azkaban wasn’t exactly kind to-” Sirius pointed at his crotch. “It’s almost a given that Harry will have to take two partners. He knows it too, I explained it to him in my last letter. I’m getting my affairs in order in case something happens to me,” Sirius muttered, trying to sound unbothered. He failed. Being trapped in the house was eating away at his sanity, and having no means of directly contacting Harry was making things worse. All he wanted was a face-to-face conversation with his godson!
Dumbledore wouldn’t even give him that.
“He has my will, and another copy has been entrusted to the goblins,” Sirius muttered, drinking straight from the bottle. He cleared his throat when he noticed Tonks’ uncomfortable expression and reached out and patted her hand. “He’ll come around. Just make sure you don’t forget to teach him in between all the flirting.”
“I won’t.” Tonks grinned. She got up from her chair and leaned over the table to kiss his cheek. “You’re a good man, cousin.”

They were in a large warehouse across the train tracks in what Harry had told her was the ‘less-reputed’ part of town. “I’m useless,” Harry muttered, glaring moodily at the floor. “I get why Dumbledore is keeping me hidden and away from the action now. Voldemort can probably kill me blindfolded and with one hand tied behind his back.”
“You’re not useless,” Tonks growled, shaking her head. His relatives had really done a number on him. She had spent the entire week building up his confidence, but it evidently hadn’t been enough.
“Certainly feels like it. I can’t even get past basic shields. You have to hold me every night because I keep having stupid nightmares. My friends don’t care enough to talk to me-”
“Daphne wrote to you,” Tonks pointed out.

It was my first time writing a scene like this and I had so much fun! I definitely want to write more scenes like this one. I am also having way more fun writing Tonks as a romantic partner for Harry than I expected. I feared they wouldn't fit, but now I definitely get the feeling she's just what he needs and they'd be perfect together. Am I a bad person for wanting to write a scene where Tonks is just messing with Vernon at the dinner table? Trying to see how red she can get him?

I will explain more in future chapters but the divergence here is Harry stressing out about the dragons and about the fight with Ron and Daphne finds him in the library and helps him out. They're frenemies for most of the year until after Voldemort's return. So both Slytherins will make moves after his return, but Daphne isn't a complete stranger to Harry. Sirius walks in on Daphne hugging him while he's recovering in the Hospital Wing after the Third Task. By that point she has some feelings for him (and he has a crush on her) and she knows which side she's going to pick. As for Pansy, I have ideas for her! I think she's in a very bad spot, with her parents pushing her to be with Draco and Draco basically making her do whatever he wants for his approval (including being mean to Harry and co.) so when Daphne offers her an out, she takes it.

Could you explain Harry and Daphne’s relationship? The blurb is confusing me a bit. The way it is phrased it sounds like Daphne and Pansy are making plans together to either be with Harry or get close to him in the future. But the way you’ve written things thus far it sounds like Harry and Daphne have some sort of relationship already but Sirius doesn’t understand what kind of relationship or how close they are. Also if the timeline is accurate then Daphne moved before Voldemort returned and Pansy is seemingly moving afterwards I am interested in how you’re going to pull off the Pansy aspect of this because this sounds very canon-esque up through 4th year. I love what you are doing with Harry and Tonks. I think they are a great pairing in terms of temperament and balancing each other out. Hopefully Tonks can increase Harry’s confidence to the point where he doesn’t just accept all the BS with Dumbledore and his ‘friends’ icing him out. Can’t wait for more of this story! Cheers!
