“You need to eat.”
“I’m not a helpless child!” Daphne growled. She wanted to tilt her head up and glare at her overprotective boyfriend, but her body would not cooperate. “I’m not… I’m not sick.” Daphne sighed softly. She wasn’t sick, not exactly. “And I did. She said it was just exam stress,” Daphne lied. She had only pretended to go to the Hospital Wing, making Tracey cover for her despite the girl’s reservations. She didn’t need Madame Pomfrey or any other healer to tell her what she already knew.
The insomnia, the dark circles under her eyes, and the exhaustion… the mood swings. Not to mention her altered sense of taste which made the soup she was drinking taste like cardboard and her utter inability to keep anything she ate down. The little patience she had for the bullshit of her housemates had all but disappeared and she had become trigger-happy when it came to hexes. Living with Harry helped but she still had to return to Slytherin on occasion to keep up appearances.
Being angry, horny, and tired all at the same time… all the time was an… interesting experience.
No, she knew exactly what was wrong and while it killed her to lie to her love, her first and only priority was getting him through the Triwizard Tournament safely. The Third Task was on them and it was the last chance the assassin lurking in Hogwarts would get to strike at Harry. He needed to be on his toes, ready for anything.
She wouldn’t do anything to distract him.
I can live with his anger, she reminded herself, steeling her nerves.
“She told me to take it easy.”
“I suppose you’re not going to follow her advice?” Harry asked with a sigh. He spotted Daphne staring at the slice of lemon on the plate they were sharing and picked it up. He squeezed its juice onto the soup, not sure why Daphne enjoyed that peculiar combination. But he had learned a while ago not to question girls and their eating habits, especially when the girl in question happened to be his slightly moody girlfriend.
“Who else is going to beat Granger and drag her down a peg, Harry?” Daphne asked, faking a scowl in Hermione’s direction.
Hermione pretended to roll her eyes before turning her attention back to Krum. She and Tracey had been instrumental in helping keep her secret hidden, and Daphne knew she owed her girlfriends big time.
I’ll settle all my debts after the Tournament, she thought, refocusing her mind on the only thing that mattered.
The Third Task. On paper, it seemed utterly straightforward and a cakewalk for Harry but after everything that had happened with Crouch, Krum, and the utter inability of the Ministry to catch the killer (Fudge had blamed a ‘rogue centaur’ in the papers, a lie that no one seemed to have bought) she wasn’t going to take anything for granted.
“What’re you going to do during the History of Magic exam?” Daphne asked, leaning forward to slurp the spoonful of soup. The tanginess of the lemon soothed her roiling stomach somewhat and she looked up at Harry with a grateful smile.
“Read. Maybe practice a few hexes. Do you think Binns will notice if I use Reducto on the walls of his classroom?”
Daphne giggled. “I doubt it. Although you might create a bit of a ruckus in the middle of our exam, darling.”
Since Harry was exempt from the year-end exams he spent the periods during which she and the others took them sitting at the back of the class, working on hexes, curses, and charms that might be useful in the Third Task. They continued this practice every evening in the Gryffindor Common Room, with Hermione or one of the Twins acting as his dueling partner while Daphne watched from an armchair, swaddled in a blanket and curled up with a cup of hot chocolate.
Chocolate and lemons, that had become her lot in life.
Harry laughed and bent to kiss her forehead. When he was with her, the outside world ceased to exist. They lived in a bubble of their own making, a slice of heaven that he had managed to carve out of everything horrible that had happened that year.
“You two coming?” Hermione asked, breaking the spell. She stood in front of her best friends, impatiently tapping her foot.
“I doubt Binns would even notice if we’re five minutes late,” Harry shot back even as he helped Daphne off his lap and onto her feet.
“Asking Hermione to be late to an exam is like asking your Veela friend not to denigrate our fine cuisine, darling,” Daphne teased, leaning up to kiss Harry’s cheek as he stood. “Simply impossible.”
“Oh, come on!” Hermione stomped her foot. Harry had turned and captured Daphne’s lips in a proper kiss.
“Did I throw a fit when you were playing ‘ride the dick’ with your boyfriend in the library last night, Granger?” Daphne asked, turning to Hermione with raised eyebrows. She let Harry grasp her hand, sighing happily as he threaded their fingers together.

They were nearly out of the Great Hall when Colin ran up to them and paused, looking up at Harry and Daphne with awe in his eyes. Daphne knew he had always worshiped Harry, but the younger Gryffindor had also developed an innocent puppy crush on her over the past few months.

He’d be good with Tori, Daphne thought, smiling kindly at the nervous boy, deciding to introduce them to each other once the Tournament was over. She needs someone gentle like him.
“What’s up, Colin?” Harry asked.
“Professor McGonagall sent me to tell you that all the champions have been asked to assemble in the room behind the Great Hall for the Third Task,” Colin said, tugging on his robes nervously.
Daphne frowned. “Isn’t the Task supposed to be tonight?”
Colin nodded vigorously. “It is, Miss Greengrass. But the families of the champions have been invited to spectate the Task and they’re waiting for Harry and the others in the room.”
“Family?” Harry asked with an incredulous snort. The only living family he had left were the Dursleys and pigs would fly before they willingly stepped foot into Hogwarts.
Colin nodded again, a nervous expression on his face.
“Are you sure Professor McGonagall meant to include me with the other champions, Colin?” Harry asked gently.
“Yes?” Colin squeaked. “She said they were waiting for you. That’s all I know. I’m sorry but I have my Charms exam in ten minutes…”
“Thanks, Colin,” Harry murmured, stepping aside to let him leave the Great Hall. Harry turned to Daphne with an expression that was a mixture of amusement and disbelief. “You don’t really think…”
“Stranger things have happened this year.”
“Stranger than my Aunt and Uncle setting aside their prejudices and coming here willingly to cheer me on? Although come to think of it, maybe they’re here to watch me die a gruesome death. They’ll certainly enjoy that,” Harry mused.
“At the beginning of the year, nobody thought a Gryffindor and a Slytherin would ever date, let alone fall in love,” Daphne whispered, leaning up to brush her lips against his. “Yet here we are. Life is one big surprise, daddy, and I’ve learned it's much better for one’s mental state to learn to go with the flow,” she whispered, slowly pulling away from him. She gently freed her hand from his and walked over to where Hermione was waiting for her. “We’ll watch up with you as soon as the exam is over,” she said, giving him an encouraging smile.

Harry nodded and watched them leave before sighing and turning around to walk back into the Great Hall. He walked past all the tables before turning left and making his way to the room he had entered all those months ago when his name had unexpectedly popped out of the Goblet of Fire. Life had been much simpler back then, not that he’d ever wish for things to be any different than they were now.
Without the Tournament, he’d probably never have met Daphne.
That fact alone made up for everything the stupid contest had put him through.
It’ll be over tonight, he reminded himself. Then I can move on with my life.
He pushed open the door, looking around the dimly lit room in confusion. There was a small fire in the fireplace, flooding the room with warmth and a dull orange glow. Krum and his dark-haired mother stood close to it, conversing in rapid Bulgarian. Cedric and his parents were by the only window in the room, staring out at the massive maze erected where the Quidditch stadium normally stood.
Gabrielle and Fleur stood with their parents in the center of the room. Their mother was practically indistinguishable from them while their father was a short, portly man with a jovial smile and a lit cigar in his hands. Gabrielle looked around at the sound of the door opening and when she saw who it was, smiled and waved.
Harry grinned and returned the gesture.
“There you are, darling,” Amelia said, shutting the tiny compact in her hand and slipping it into her purse.
Harry turned around, his eyes widening at the sight of Cyrus and Amelia Greengrass. While they had originally planned to stay until the end of the Tournament, Fudge had called a session of the Wizengamot to pick Crouch’s successor, necessitating their return to London. Harry had not expected to see them again until he went to visit Daphne over summer break.
“Mister and Misses… Amelia and Mister Greengrass?”
“Hello, dear,” Amelia murmured, pulling a stunned Harry into a hug. “You look famished, as always. Maybe I need to have a talk with Dumbledore about the quality of food,” she muttered, turning Harry towards the fireplace so she could inspect him.
“Let him breathe, Lia. He’s not one of your prized unicorns,” Cyrus said, rolling his eyes fondly.
“I’m just saying he needs to eat more, Cyrus,” Amelia admonished gently. “My daughters are dissolute brats who have no appreciation for me but I’m sure you wouldn’t mind me sending you a parcel of homemade food every now and then, would you, dear?”
“I… uhm… I’d love that, Amelia,” Harry murmured shyly, staring at the woman who looked so much like an older version of Daphne. She had aged flawlessly and probably looked more at home attending galas and hosting fundraisers than cooking her daughter’s boyfriend a pie.
She was everything his Aunt pretended to be, and so much more.
“I didn’t know you were coming,” Harry said as Amelia finally pulled away from him.
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world, son,” Cyrus replied with a warm smile. He clasped Harry’s shoulder and squeezed it gently. “Feeling ready for the Final Task?”
Harry nodded. “As ready as I can be, sir.”
“Well, that’s good to hear. I will leave my wife in your capable hands.”
“You’re… leaving?” Harry asked, frowning slightly. Didn’t he want to meet his daughters before he left?
“I will be back before the Task starts. I have a business partner in London who is getting too big for his boots,” Cyrus said mildly. He ran a hand over his perfectly tailored pin-striped suit, smoothening it. “It’s high time I dropped by and… drilled some sense into him. I just wanted to have a word with Dumbledore and meet you before I left.”
“Oh, okay.” Harry frowned. His last interaction with the Headmaster hadn’t exactly gone as planned. Just as he was wondering if there was a way to pull Mr. Greengrass aside and share his concerns with the man, Amelia locked her arm with his.
“Don’t worry, honey pie. Harry will take good care of me. He’s taking me shopping. I need a new gown for the Ministry Ball. You don’t own a tuxedo, do you, Harry?”
“Uhm, no?” Harry squeaked. He had the simple suit Daphne had made him buy from the Hogsmeade branch of Twilfitt’s, but he doubted Amelia had something that basic in mind. Daphne had once warned him that she was a discerning shopper and he had gotten a taste of that when she had spent three hours trying on dresses to pick the perfect one for their anniversary date. Harry had a sneaking suspicion she had gotten that habit from her mother. “Do I need one?”
“Well, we can’t have you and Daphne’s debut as a couple with you wearing jeans and an oversized shirt, dear.”
Cyrus laughed. “I wish you luck, son. Just remember darling, he has a tournament to win in six hours. My wife loses track of time while shopping.” He winked at Harry before walking out of the room, chuckling quietly.
“Shall we, dear?”
Harry gulped and nodded.

Number 4, Privet Drive:
“Don’t you worry about what your Professor said,” Petunia sniffled angrily as they walked into the dark house. “She doesn’t understand you Dudders. Not like I do.”
“Pah.” Vernon huffed as he shut the door behind him. “They’re why he has low grades, Petunia. Don’t know how to teach and think they can pass the blame onto our son. They’re what’s wrong with this country, I tell you. Wouldn’t be surprised if those freaks told them to keep our Dudders down.”
Dudley, busy devouring a bacon sandwich, simply grunted. “Ih’ll bhe in mhy rhoom,” he mumbled through a mouthful of bread. The wood creaked under his weight as he stomped up the stairs.
“Such a special boy. Everyone treats him so unfairly,” Petunia sniffled, delicately dabbing the corner of her eyes with the handkerchief in her hands.
“Don’t worry. I’ll have a chat with the Dean tomorrow. Make sure his Professors see the error of their ways,” Vernon muttered, waddling into their living room. He flipped the light switch, a high-pitched shriek escaping his lips at the sight of the man waiting for them in their living room.
Cyrus Greengrass was lounging in his favorite armchair, twirling his wand carelessly between his fingers.
“It’s good to see you again, Vernon,” Cyrus said cheerfully. He waved his wand, causing the large sofa to spring to life. It flew in the air until it was behind Vernon and Petunia and then it inched forward, pressing against their knees and making them sit down on it. “Please, make yourself comfortable. I hate to drop by on such short notice but we need to have a conversation, Vernon.”
“W-who… who are you?” Petunia squeaked as her husband wrapped his beefy arms around her frame.
“He’s the freak I told you about!” Vernon yelled, turning his beady eyes towards Cyrus. “The one who dropped by my office and killed all your plants.”
Cyrus snorted. “They were already dying. In fact, you told your assistant to buy replacements just a day before our meeting, did you not?”
“H-how do you know that?! How do you know where we live?!”
“Good question,” Cyrus murmured, picking up the tumbler of whiskey from the table and taking a sip.
For such a despicable human, he sure does have good taste, Cyrus mused, rolling the amber liquid around on his tongue before swallowing.
“It was… incredibly difficult, let me tell you. The wards around this house are extraordinarily strong. There is no record of this place in the Ministry, and no way to magically locate or plot this building. No way, in fact, to travel to this place via any means that is remotely magical.” Cyrus took another sip and sighed contentedly. “I suspect Dumbledore has a way around that last one but he seemed rather reluctant to let me establish contact with you. I didn’t bother to tell him we’ve already met, of course.”
“We did though. I thought we had an agreement. I didn’t even tell anyone about it,” Vernon wailed, his voice trembling.
Cyrus tutted. “Hasn’t anyone taught you that it’s rude to interrupt someone while they’re talking? Now, be a good man and apologize for the interruption.”
Vernon turned red. “Now listen here,” he growled, removing his arms from around Petunia and turning to Cyrus with a threatening expression. His bravado died the minute Cyrus calmly raised his wand and used it to summon the bottle of whiskey from the kitchen. “I’m sorry,” he mumbled, shrinking back into the sofa.
“Thank you. As I was saying, I had to get creative to find this house. I remembered how agreeable the guard at your factory was after I gave him a gold coin. So I paid your assistant fifty galleons to tell me where you live,” Cyrus finished proudly.
Work smarter, not harder, that was what he always told his girls.
He topped up his glass, watching Vernon mumble under his breath.
“W-what do you want?” Petunia finally spoke, her voice just as shaky as her husband’s.
Cyrus turned to the woman, unable to hide the surprise on his face. This was the sister of Lily Evans? Surely not.

It was a testament to James and Lily and Harry himself that he had turned out to be a kind and well-adjusted adult despite the treatment he had suffered at the hands of his relatives. “The only reason you two and that stain on humanity that you call your son aren’t pickled frogs in jars in my office is because I don’t care for the paperwork that would involve. Test me or insult Harry again and I will happily change my mind.”
Vernon and Petunia shrank into the sofa at the sight of the wand pointed at them.
Cowed into submission, Petunia cleared her throat and continued in a softer, more conciliatory tone. “He has his own room. We give him everything he needs. What more do you want us to do?”
“He will come live with you but he will probably not be alone. Knowing my daughter, I’m certain she will demand to come along with him. I remember when I was young and in love. I couldn’t bear to stay away from Lia for even a day, let alone an entire week.”

Vernon’s yell was cut short by Petunia furiously elbowing his side.

“Yes.” Cyrus took another sip from his glass and leaned back into the armchair with a sigh. “I’m renovating a lovely seaside cottage in Cornwall for them but Dumbledore insists that Harry needs to stay here at least for a week. I don’t have the power to overrule him and I’m not going to waste my energy in trying.”

“So they will stay here for a week while my wife and I get their new home ready for them. You or your son will not insult them in any way. If you don’t talk to them at all, that’ll be even better. You will apologize to Harry for all the mistreatment he has suffered at your hands. You will never again so much as lay a finger on him.”
“And if we don’t?” Petunia asked, her anger warring with her fear. Who was this man to tell her how to run her own house?
“I’ll kill you,” Cyrus said simply. “I’m not a good man, Petunia Dursley. I won’t lose sleep over it. I’ve killed to protect my family before and I’ll do it again without any hesitation. And you won’t even see it coming.”
Cyrus stood, his mission accomplished. “You don’t mind if I keep this bottle, do you?” He picked up the bottle of whiskey.
Vernon shook his head mutely.
Cyrus started to walk out of the room, pausing mid-way and turning around to look at the couple.
“Remember when you told me about Harry’s no-good, mass-murdering godfather, Vernon? Is his name Sirius Black by any chance?”
“Yeah,” Vernon mumbled, sounding defeated. “That fella who was on the telly a couple of years ago.”
“Is Harry in touch with him?”
“Dunno. The boy says he is. Said his godfather checks in on him every few days last summer.”

History of Magic Classroom, Thirty Minutes Before The Third Task:

I love leaving Easter Eggs in my stories and one of them heavily hinted that this was going to happen. I mean, what did they think was going to happen when they used toys normally used in Fertility Rituals. Lol. As for Cyrus, I am having fun writing him as a complex and morally gray character. The day he finally meets Sirius is going to be so much fun. I think they'll both agree they have a vermin problem and have to go rat hunting.

I fully agree. I think from the beginning of this story Daphne has been highly self-reliant and has grown up having to take care of her sister and that's been her mindset in her first real relationship too. She has only slowly learnt to let Harry in and while Harry won't be very angry he's going to be genuinely upset that she hid it from him no matter her intentions and it will be an important learning moment. It's funny because they both put each other's needs first, even before their relationship. As will be pointed out, Harry would have done the same for her if the tables were reversed. As for the hair, I'll go back to my story notes and check! I think I wrote her as having longer hair, but I could be wrong! I might have referred to the notes for the wrong Daphne for this chapter.

Maybe I'm off my rocker here but I'm fairly sure Daphne has been written here as having just around shoulder length hair this entire time and now she's got lower back length hair? It just jumped out at me as not matching the rest of the story. Might be mixing my stuff up. While I understand what Daphne is doing here I expect Harry to rightfully be crazy pissed off when he finds out she hid something this important from him. You just don't do that in relationships.
