There is no trick, any x264 mp4 should work. Are you able to get any videos playing in the first place?

is there a trick to encoding the mp4's so they work in the video player? or a size limit? I tried adding my own, tried encoding both x265 and x264 and unpacking your var/swapping the files & filenames but didn't have any luck.
