I remember the moment I heard BOMT on the radio in the fall of 98’, I was 12 and was doing my homework in my bedroom when it came on and I immediately just popped up and started dancing around my room! I had no idea who she was yet but I somehow knew she was special, if only from that one moment. As soon the dj said her name after the song ended I wouldn’t have guessed she’d become a permanent part of my life. And then seeing the music video for the first time, it was almost like this transitional period where I began to enter into young womanhood, and seeing these images of a profoundly confident teenage girl who was comfortable in her own skin was so pure and powerful to me. You also hit the nail on the head with the Monica Lewinsky comparisons. Such a weird time to go through puberty as a young girl and receive so many mixed messages at once, you definitely developed a sense of internalized misogyny that reflected the culture at the time. It’s something that I believe that if you were growing up during that time, are all still recovering from. What a time it was.

I must have just turned 8 and the TV was on and I remember stopping whatever I was doing and being absolutely captivated by Britney. I thought she was the prettiest girl I’d ever seen! I’m from Louisiana and somehow my dad had connections to Felicia, and they got me a personalized autograph! It was prob 1998/99 and was given to me as a surprise after soccer practice and I’ll never forget the high I felt touching something that Britney had touched and how jealous all the the other kiddos were. 😅 It was like a sacred artifact and no one was allowed to touch it 😂 I still have it framed in my room obvi hahah

First things first: I just want to thank you two for your service 🫡. As a Britney stan there are no better people for me to hear talk about Britney. Such respect and knowledge. Emphasis on the knowledge!! There are so many people who just do get it like we Britney freaks do, ya know? Second, when it comes to Max Martin - yes! I always say the Swedish are like masters in pop music. ABBA has to be my top 5 most listen to artists of all time and it’s because theor music is magic. Delicious melodic amazing candy that’s perfect. NONE of their songs make any sense. No ABBA lyrics feel personal to Bjorn or Benny at all. It’s like they are masters at jingle writing. That’s why they were able to win Eurovision. There talent was being a machine that can mathematically and scientifically build a perfect pop song. It just goes! I never understood what people were such idiots to think “Baby One More Time” was about DV. Like moronic! Did “I Want It That Way” by BSB make ANY sense?? Max has that Swedish gene that just can make a hit and we as a public are hypnotized by.
