Sailing on Zingaro with James and Ana was a great experience for Martha and I. It was an important step for us as we plan our future as live a boards / cruisers. Our goal has always been to sail to distant shores, and hailing from Nebraska, it was important to see if we could handle the ins and outs of ocean sailing. I'm not sure how much video James has of us sailing on our first attempt to get to Kline Curacao, but we definitely learned what it was like to sail to weather in challenging seas. My favorite part was sailing at night, seeing the bioluminescent plankton, and the constellations not seen in the northern hemisphere. We learned how to cope with seasickness, (Martha and Ana) and sleep deprivation. This is hard to do on a charter boat in the Caribbean as they don't want you sailing at night. The fish James speared was amazingly fresh, and Ana's arapas were delicious! We experienced over 200 miles of open ocean sailing, worked on the boat doing repairs, and problem solving. One fun project we did was to repair the steering by retrieving a stainless steel pin that had fallen into the pedestal. I came up with a solution of using a long threaded rod with gorilla tape bunched on the end to stick the bolt and pull it out. It took about 15-20 minutes of tries, as each miss meant I had to replace the tape because it cleaned all the sand and salt from the bottom of the pedestal! (I made a very big clean spot down there before finally getting the pin back up!) We met several new friends from other parts of the world, and left the boat fully exausted by the end of our trip. I think it would be easy to give this a 5 star rating if Patreon allowed it! Hope to see you again soon James, as we continue our search for our next boat.
