Birdsafe
🕑 Added 2021-03-19 21:34:04 +0000 UTCHey pals! A bit of a different comic this week! I made this working with Bird Safe Guelph to help spread some information about birds and window collisions.
- the issue: between 16 and 42 million birds die from fatal window collisions each year in Canada
- the solution: retrofitting windows is an easy and effective solution to preventing bird deaths
- the details: markings on windows should be on the outside of windows and no more than 5cm apart to be effective
- take action: each person can save birds lives by retrofitting their windows at home
- For folks in Guelph, Ontario @birdsafeguelph will be giving out free materials for transforming windows at home in the month of April, visit www.birdsafeguelph.ca for more info.
And visit Flap Canada and Feather Friendly for more information on the topic!
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I'm not sure! As far as I understand it's about making it look like a very small bird couldn't fly through any gaps

And +1 to the window tape!

the problem is how to collect if the other bird doesn't have the five dollars on hand... er, wing

I bought tape from ABC Birds, and they said 4 inches. It has worked, as far as I can tell, but I do see birds pulling up, so maybe it would be better closer?

I volunteered through the lights out program in my city and helped a professor on my universities campus do research about bird window collisions on campus, so its something I'm passionate about haha. Definitely always great to be able to get the word out in large form to people who might not know! It's Awesome you're able to do so!

This went in a dark direction.

Thank you Luke! That's very helpful! I'm sure Americans will be asking for this information when I post it to my Instagram.

Thanks Josh, if you don't mind me sharing some more information for people in the US, if they want to help out they should see if their city has a "Lights Out" campaign. It's a campaign through the National Audubon Society which seeks to raise awareness of this growing cause of bird death! And maybe if your city doesn't have one see about trying to establish one and help out! https://www.audubon.org/httpswwwaudubonorgmenuconservation/existing-lights-out-programs
