I second this!

Un travail de titans !

Christina Ozeki

This is fantastic and I didn't realise I had missed this post, previously. But thanks to Alice's mention in the new post at the end of July 2021, I have seen this now. Amazing! :)

I turned to the early stages of paralives and was interested in the dynamics of sitting in a chair! The production team can adjust the posture animation of chairs with different heights, which is very important. As a player (and audience), I have a little idea to put forward ·Can we consider increasing the posture of sitting down? As shown in the video, each character's sitting action is very consistent, but it is somewhat unrealistic. In real life, people with different habits will have different sitting posture, such as crossing legs, crossing legs, or stretching legs, which can be more personalized!

Monika Hernar

Either be connected to the personality of the characters or maybe just random .

Monika Hernar

It may be impossible, but it would be cool to have a few different ways of doing things, like eating posture when sitting etc.. that way it feels more random and real. You really notice it when they all are doing an activity at the same time. Like sitting around a table, everyone eating in the same way. But you could have some sloppy eaters and some with very posh table manners etc..

The Sims 4 is considerably worse than The Sims 3. The graphic improved, but the movement was much worse. I remember being really shocked at how bad the animation was when I finally did get The Sims 4. Also the needless extra bits of action that shouldn't have been there - the compulsory sitting down between every action, even though you have them cued and there's no need for it, two hours to shower or eat (or longer). And in true EA style, they never fixed it. And the movements are really, really clunky - they don't fit together well between one action and another. My programming experience is limited to Access VBA, so this is new to me, but this post demonstrates how they are put together, and it's more than clear that The Sims 4 actions were put together extremely badly.

Annamaris

Thank you for your comment and sharing your thoughts, Fran. I didn't know anything TS4's animation before reading yout text. It sounds as horrible as TS3 where the sims may stand for minutes by doing nothing even though you have ordered them to do. In the worst case, the whole interaction list resets because of the animation lag, the sims digging their noses and other weird reasons. It's sad to hear they did not get rid of this annoying issue in TS4, either.

Very insightful and well explained I understood every step considering I’ve got a degree in animation 2D&3D it’s very wonderful to see the progressive work and navigating around certain complexities. More games should have this channel it’s very good for the community to see the hard work and commitment that goes into building a game.

Thank you for sharing this, it's sooooo interesting !

❤️Maria kully❤️

I love it 😘

This is a lovely weekly review. Did enjoy reading this. Thank you for sharing. :)

I love this weekly review, is so interesting. I hope that this weekly responsability doesn't it too much of her time and doesn't stress her too much.

I haven't deleted my account, but I haven't touched it in years. I hesitated in buying the last iteration of the game for several years, then (after a friend said, "Oh, they've fixed most of the bugs now!", very much regretted it when I realised that my first instinct was correct after I did eventually cave in. I also won't be buy EA games again, regardless of what they produce. I hugely dislike their attitude and their lack of care about the products they release. Producing games that, quite frankly, are barely good enough to be in Alpha, let alone fully released, and expecting the public to pay full price for them is more than arrogant and immoral. Then not bothering to bring the game up to a released game standard is beyond disgusting, as is continually releasing obviously untested buggy addons. Steam games generally get my gameplay money these days. There are really great well-made games there in early access that are much, much better than TS4 for $20-$40, with considerably fewer of bugs, richer gameplay and just hugely better made. And most of them have the devs just there, responsive and interacting with the players. Hence, bugs in the good games are generally fixed quite quickly. I love that part of Steam.

I agree. I have long since deleted my EA Account months ago, and won’t be going back. I am looking forward to Paralives.

Thanks for reply!: )

Wow, I am getting high hopes for this game. ❤️🙏🏽🚘🗺️👍🏾

Wow! This is really, really fascinating!! I love this!! It's fascinating to see the thought processes that must be travelled through to make the complex animations of the game, how the procedural animations work and the complex variations of movement animation considerations that go into it. It also, sadly, brings front and centre exactly how bad The Sims 4 animations actually are. From seeing this, it is extremely evident how they have cut corners in making their animations. Particularly in moving from one animation sequence to another and why those animations are so LOOONG and SOOOO slow!! They didn't bother with "optimisation" for seamless transitions of their animations did they?!? They just created them and kind of slapped them together willy-nilly without care, didn't they!! Grrrr!!! Watching this REALLY makes them look incredibly bad!! If it's possible for them to look worse than they already did!! Even to an ignorant non-animator such as me!! On the other hand, it makes you guys look incredibly, massively AWESOME!! You make me actually want to try it myself, although my artistic talents are limited to drawing stick people (seriously!), so that probably won't happen!! But you certainly entice me to want to try regardless, lol! Please continue posting these! They are fabulous!! :-))) <3

Liv

You all are amazing. Stay healthy! <3

I'm always amazed at the talent and understanding it takes to make programs like this work, and that's without patience, persistence and creativity. Congrats, you are doing a wonderful job. So looking forward to seeing the hard work of all the team coming (slowly but surely) to fruition.

Rosemary Noir

The time and dedication you guys are putting into this game is amazing!!! 😍🥰 I love how transparent the team is and can't wait to see your creations come to life (the wait is definitely worth it!).

Shay

These animations are actually so nice!!! y'all did a great job working and problem solving to get it to this point. Thank you for showing us your progress!!

ponyfhtagn

I love these animations so much! I love how they're being thought about and put together like this. I love how you're identifying 'the easy way' (all chairs the same height, all paras the same height) and then saying NO, I WILL DO BETTER and then we get to have so much flexibility to play with - I love it! :D

BreakingGaia

I love this! Please do more of these and keep giving us insight into the development cycle. So many of us don't know how it works or how you guys brainstorm ideas and turn them into reality. I so look forward to every friday!

Jana Mahlich

omg you're right, the descriptions are going to be so funny and unique!! Can't waittt

Annamaris

Was I the only one who would hear LGR's voice when reading the text? ;) Anyways, it was very informative text to read. Really appreciate your effort for everything you've done so far!

Alex Massé

Thank you! We do have fun working on that! It's challenging but very rewarding when it works and when we can play with it

Alex Massé

Hi! Thanks for your concerns. We are doing everything we can to test the game extensively to make sure the game has as few bugs as possible and doesn't have corruption issues. We have experienced programmers on the team and we are doing everything we can to create a quality game.

Bodil Bührmann

I am soo glad to se that my patrion funds are well invested. But i have a conern. Hoe on earth will you protect the game from bugs, glitches and corruption??? I really would like to here somthing about that. After experience the sims 4 and all the trying to fix the game only to make new bugs and errors appear..it concerns me, how you will deal with that??? Please take my worries seriosly. I really want this to be a fantastic game I can play until i die!! hehe

Anna

This was both entertaining and informative to read, thank you so much for doing this and going the extra mile for also writing a transcript! I certainly look even more forward to the end result, however long it may take :)

This is amazing! I was a little skeptical about the height sliders at first, I was almost sure it'd get cut based on the comments from the Sims developers on how difficult it is to get the animations working. This team is amazing and talented!

Sean McDorman

Honestly I’m just impressed with how much work you’re taking on and how simply you explain it - always the best indicator of someone who really knows their craft. I know this phase of development can seem lengthy and difficult, since you’re building each new feature from the ground up as well as getting them all to play nice together, so I hope you’re having fun with it.

Alexandra Lindsey

This was so informative and fun! I loved seeing the insights of the game but it gives you a picture that a lot of thought is going into paralives and I love it!! (Gifs and pictures are also A1💗)

Sarah

Ahhh!!! This is so cool! I love the little insights to what's going on behind the scenes and problems that may occur.

I’m so excited for this game! I would love to be a 3D artist with you guys! I make more clutter and furniture based objects. I love learning and love extending my abilities.

Aster Lea

Yes, inverse kinematics! I've been waiting for this to be finally used in a life simulation game so we can have different heights. ❤️

Mod Zero

I was actually worried when I saw some of the customizations, because it was obvious you'd have to get a bit procedural. It's great to see something about that area.

Aaron

I love that you guys are taking the time to explain some of what goes on behind the scenes!! It’s so interesting to see, and it gives us a better idea of the challenges/limitations you guys face while trying to implement the things the community is asking for. Also I just have to say, the way Anna wrote this is highly entertaining and I could read this all day😂I can’t wait to see what kind of item descriptions and stuff she writes for this game lmao

Jana Mahlich

YESSS! No plates to eat burgers! THANK YOU! it would be really cool if we could get different speeds of eating: A starving para would gulp the burger in 2 secs whereas a full para would take its sweet time to eat. :) Keep up the amazing work!

Beth Anne

This was so interesting, I forwarded it to my husband who is also a programmer b/c it's right up his alley. :) (Also, whiteboards are legit the best.)

Tori Barbado Muñoz

This is so amazing--! 🥺🥺

Amanda Shafer

I love that you guys share so much about how things are going. It really makes everyone feel like they are apart of helping make this game the best it can be. You all are doing wonderful and have my full support as we wait eagerly and patiently for this incredible game.

Diamond Nicole

Wow I'm so impressed with everything! It's a lot to take in but I love knowing what's going on ❤ paralives team is truly amazing and gifted. thank you for sharing the journey in making paralives. Even when there are complications it's all coming together beautifully

Maggie

Can you guys please just take all of my money now? Also, thank you for sharing this here as I'm not much of a Twitter person. Keep up the great work!

Brendon Rivera

I am so proud of you guys and can’t wait for this game 😭😭🥰

Miri D

It's so interesting to read what goes on behind the scenes and to see the complications that arise from creating a game with such customization! Thank you so much for all the hardwork and for showing us, with such transparency, what it takes to make a game truly great.
