Morgan was strong against Ghosts. Ghost Types were weak to Pokémon, who shared their own obsessive natures, and while Dark Types weren't obsessive, their raw, instinctual nature hit all the same buttons. The Murkrow would easily make a Mimikyu melt from flattery and understanding. If Brandy wanted to win this, and she did, she made the most sense. Any tactician would have called on Morgan without a second thought. They'd even all agreed before the fight that Morgan should be second, especially with no way for Calcine to use Rock Tomb.
In the heat of the moment, though, Brandy had reached for Calcine. She'd had her confidence knocked being played, and Calcine was a comforting rock to lean on when she let doubt creep in. Calcine believed in her stronger than anyone.
Brandy could have justified her pick in other ways. Calcine would be best for ripping off the Mimikyu, but Brandy wasn't about to lie to herself why she'd done it. Picking Calcine first was unfair to Morgan, and the Murkrow would be right to be disappointed. Something they'd have to talk out, but later. Morgan hated losing, and Brandy wasn't about to pile on the disappointment when the moment came.
"Sparky," Calcine called, "Why is Brandy growing tentacles?"
"Invited a Mimikyu into her dress," Sparky said, fur wet as she breast-stroked her way back to the side of the pool. "Short Brandy is the other trainer. Wren. She can shapeshift a little. Squeeze her waist; she's basically a thick Brandy right now. Almost makes up for her kicking me into the pool."
Wren had turned the fight around, but she'd still had to endure Sparky's tongue to get there, and Sparky had been enthusiastic in her efforts. "Ceridwen! Stop with the act and help us!" Wren begged.
