hi. i made it non-canon because i didn't want jason to be an absent father canonically. it aligned with too many stereotypes; even if it was based on my own father situation, it's different, and it was one of the elements of canon that i could feasibly change and abandon... so i did. other parts of canon i'd rather get rid of, like lola's drug dependency, are too ingrained in the fabric of drop-out to get rid of them, and i was advised to just leave it alone and do better.

So, from the future, where you made this non-canonical, I have to ask - why? I mean, DYSTAI works even if this is still canon - after realizing that 'where I came from' is less important to lola than 'where I am now', they come back, take up doing art, and we get to see that Sugar isn't able to make that leap - that where she was is as much a part of 'who she is' as where she is now.

This update made me cry, gosh I love Sugar saying 'I'm planning to never put you through something like that again'... Maybe that isn't the 'right' thing for everybody in Sugar's position to say but it's such a reversal of her Drop-Out attitude ('there's no guilt to a corpse').
