idletry: july update
🕑 Added 2023-07-26 23:01:38 +0000 UTChi everyone, i wanted to make another update about idletry this month. i've been kind of a huge mess and really unmotivated and tired. half the time i've cried about mawkish and half the time i've just grasped at anything that will hold my attention with minimal thinking, then another half of my time i'm given responsibility of the puppies that my mom got somehow even though there are only supposed to be 2 halves.
thankfully i was so excited to post about the work at the beginning of june that i have all of what i did in june combined with july to post. less fortunately if you follow my art tumblr you've seen like all of it except for the writing.
i've picked at the script here or there, sometimes just rereading scenes and making continuity notes or improvement suggestions. i haven't written much since my dog died.
act 2 itself has its skeleton finished; it's about twice as long as act 1, if not a little longer. many of the scenes are 2,000-6,000 words long. i've "beat sheeted" quite a few scenes, which is where i write out the beats of the scene in detail using a bullet point list. it makes it easier because dialogue requires a clarity of mind that just has not been there for me, and i can summarize what the dialogue is supposed to get across without needing to find the balance with exact wording.
i have a few sketch comics i want to draw for it too... i like capitalizing on the inspiration even if it won't ultimately lead to the completion of the big comic. a couple ideas i had:
- jessie as a teenager asking her dad to help her mend a rip in her sweater, where they talk about how everything degrades over time
- emily and trouble talking about trouble's experience with death, and trouble's feelings about the fact that emily had her euthanized
- jessie accidentally unloading an "i fucked your mom" snap at shiloh
- shiloh and their blue jay friend as kids, probably
- sam starting the jessism cult, way before they ever meet jessie
- jessie and emily butting heads over what video game to play because jessie is bored of emily's new game after using a lot of cheat codes (based on scrapped scene in the actual comic)
- another continuation strip of the two where jessie touches shiloh with her cold nose in the morning to surprise her
also please ignore that two panels are colored in that taxi comic, i held a poll for which strip i should test the same coloring style on, and that's the one that won. i saved it over the original sai file and was too lazy to superimpose the uncolored panels onto the entire strip.
don't know what august is going to be like. i'm kind of just rolling with whatever happens, emotionally.
