The Final Motor Drone Update Before Kits!
🕑 Added 2025-03-26 22:45:37 +0000 UTCHi all! I have been futzing about quite a bit with the design and audio quality of the motor drone before feeling like it's "kit-ready". I'm finally there.
Because of the redesign, I'm now calling these "Rotary Drones". Cause they slightly resemble old rotary phones. Look.... It's fine.
This video captures a bit of the many hours spent measuring, remeasuring, building, rebuilding, and testing this fun little guy.
I even made a happy discovery at the end that makes a huge difference in the quality of the sound of the drone and function of the motor control.
I promise that the next you hear about this thing is that the kit is ready to buy! Stay tuned for that date coming soon.

Perfect name :D Another Floyd head over here. I also had issues running these with batteries which is why you see I’m only using power jacks on the newer models. They seem to supply power more smoothly even though they are also 9v.

“Rotary Drone” 😂 I love that. Great discovery on the motor. I’ve built 2 units and have noticed that motors tend to sag a bit when turned up. Had thought that maybe my battery was getting weak. Since I’ve been using wooden cigar boxes in my build, might call what I’ve got: Welcome To The Machine/Have A Cigar.
