Sadtyre

Your analogy is flawed. The whole point of cancer treatments is so you do NOT have to rip out the entire affected organ.

This was reality for a large part of human history. hell governments today do much worse and call it collateral damage.

If the tree is rotten, it must be ripped out by the roots. Chancer spreads. The world is brutal and merciless, kill or be killed, the chancery is doing all it can just to keep the Empire surviving. They probably have an apocalyptic threat like the demons being summoned once a month. Personally I'm surprised Ard hasn't killed a lot more people. I'd be popping my enemies like confetti balloons.

Thanks! This is by far my favorite series I’m currently reading

Silver Beard

Ard paid for the flower with his debt; but the Mother is still under an oath after opening her mouth in the Glenn- she has clear obligations considering his present and future. I'm kinda curious what would have happened if others deuecide he should disappear. Does the Emperor know of the oath his wife/Queen is under? If the Fae Queen came calling- would she consider Mom to be doing her best for Ard? Or find her wanting?

Silver Beard

Even though this next beat down will be justified, imagine there will be a 'fine' assessed to their paychecks to deal with 'damages'.

Ness Windseeker

Cant wait for the next chapter

Monocle

I highly disagree that the second chancery is "evil". They seem like the least corrupt system I have ever heard of and their sole purpose is to ensure the prosperity of their kingdom even if they have to get their hands dirty.

Hahahaah Milar does not want to see our boy win

The morally grey part of the story is tipping towards a less ambiguous evil. Ard, with a strong sense of justice, is working for what increasingly seems like the fantasy Stasi. And that's justified because hunting is brutal? (it may be, but at least it's clean). The young man who crossed racial lines to help a desperate mother now works for an organization that kills off entire bloodlines in the name of state security. And Ard was just lured into a trap and almost killed, but somehow let that person leave unharmed. The original motivation behind joining the chancery (justice for the Firstborn) seems almost entirely absent. I really love this story, but by God is it frustrating from time to time.

Femboy

Didn’t ard “repay for his grandfathers sins” by saving the life of the only heir to the empire? I would think that counts for at least something

Ethan Norton

This series is so fucking good, it's shocking.
