In my opinion its because of the time this show is set in and what is expected of a man in this culture. That's why its so cool seeing straight male characters not giving a shit about being the toughest closed off emotionally Norse honor bound psychos - even with their entire culture/people telling them they should be. With the theme of toxic masculinity in this age and show , its powerful. Its not "offensive or bad" to be gay obviously, I just like to give credit to hetero-normative men that are vulnerable and soft when everything is telling them they can't be. Just reducing it to the singular reason being their sexuality seems reductive and a little shallow. But hey, I haven't read the manga so maybe they take their relationship to the next level lol

Personally, I think its like how in Naruto both male leads have love interests, but their bond with eachother is like the focus of the show that they're lowkey so all about eachother that they might as well be gay. Also they're not focusing on any sort of romance rn, so the way the dudes in these shows talk about their buddies is so like, PASSIONATE. Which, even if it is just a bro thing, its not bad that it comes off as gay?? Like two men loving eachother is pretty gay, it can also be pretty platonic and beautiful. Like when girls talk to eachother its giving gay sometimes cause we're all so comfortable to say that stuff as compliments. Its weird that people are like "its offensive and bad to call them gay π" they love eachother, its kinda gay, but they're not gay. But in my mind I will pretend they are β¨οΈ

Itβs not that Torfin is gay, during that scene Torfin warrior senses just kicked in, he senses some kind of danger is coming and the question is how would he respond to that danger ?
