Odo getting knocked out was also my issue with the episode. I don't believe it should be possible, either he shifts and an object passes through him or he stays solid and take the kinetic hit getting knocked back but not out.

Odo not being able to shape a humanoid face is a nod to the complexities of the form. A piece of hair doesn’t have to express your mood and rat doesn’t have to convey fear; the humanoid face is a complex thing and I love that acknowledgement through the choice of making it hard for Odo to replicate.

Odo is too stoic to have a lot of exposition. You glean from Odo - his face, his movement, his tone - Odo doesn’t have a bad scene in the entire series.

Quark did nothing outside of the morality of the ferengi - he is making a deal, he didn’t pull the trigger; this is not a federation station, so the strict federation morality won’t play here if Sisko is going to have a successful station - Sisko has to ride a different line than someone running a starfleet ship, and riding right on that line is Quark. I love that interplay and think it makes the characters and show more compelling.

Flying is primary mode of travel in a space fairing society - laws of physics are most often (but not always) universal - so I equate it to driving a car in a foreign country - it might be different, but you can figure it out.

Unfortunately, that is not how the law works (or is supposed to) - at least here in the US. An accessory before, during or after the fact usually carries the same penalty as the person who did the act. Generally, if a death occurs during the commission of a felony, then the all are charged with murder. Most of these charges with a death have elements of the crime that include whether a death was foreseeable during the crime. A guy holding up a sale with a weapon designed to kill as well as stun and then killing someone is a foreseeable act.

Totally disagree with the cast members on this one in regards to Quark. Quark did not commit murder, Croden did and the whole storyline of returning him to his homeworld was about accountability and holding him responsible. Quark set up the meeting yes, but I think it is made very clear that he definitely intended for Croden to interrupt the meeting, not for him to kill someone. That's not who Quark is. So the fact that Quark didn't face any repercussions is fine, to me. Quark is very good about finding himself around all the trouble and crime, and not quite involving himself to the point where he's responsible. Is that shady? Yes. But it is not criminal. That's DS9. And the fact that the Starfleet characters don't seem to respond in the "Federation" way is a reflection both of the kind of show DS9 is, and the in-universe fact that it is not a Federation station. They cannot impose their values on everyone as if it was a Starfleet starbase. They are guests of the Bajorans

Does Odo retain his form when unconscious? Can he even be knocked out? I saw that phaser beam go right through his head without an issue.

Not sure it's a cats but definitely could not unsee it. Btw Garret draws a parallel in Voyager of how so many aliens have features that looks like something that rhymes with "blitorus" for the episode "Resistance" ( rewatching Voyager for the nth time this time while a patreon) and now I can't unsee it. Finally watching Enterprise and in episode "Detained" immediately noticed a blitorus nose feature. Thanks for that Garret! Haha. Loving the work guys.

I thought this was the best ep of the podcast (DS9 version) thus far other than the kickoff installment for "Emissary." Everyone was really funny and insightful even though this episode was hellaciously substandard. Terry's energy is fantastic. Thanks, Robbie, for the well-recognized TOS shout-out. And I agree with Garrett - sure, Cardassian technology is different, but a chip is a chip, not a vial of liquid. Oh, and great question by Steph about Odo's mass. He has to be able to change his molecular structure; perhaps the missing mass is dispersed in the air around him when needed. Awful DS9 ep, great podcast ep.

Also, RE: The Miradorn/Miicheal Dorn Does he have a family member named Mira? Cause they named a TNG alien race after his son (the Zakdorn). So i cant help wondering if these aliens' name came about in a similar manner...

I guess i always assumed Odo let the Quark thing go because he assumed Quark knew about the daughter thing and Odo didnt want anyone looking too deeply into HIS activities either (letting them go) so it was better to not attract anymore attn (scrutiny) to the whole situation and just hope everyone moves on quickly

I can see how the lack of Gamma Quadrant exploration happened. Early on, they wanted to differentiate DS9 from TNG by making it about a station instead of a ship, so they tried to keep the characters there. The wormhole was just a way for the crew to have new lifeforms and new civilizations come to THEM.

It is stated above, under the episode title, that Armin is hosting this week. Nope. I dont know if it was mentioned, but Randy Oglesby (Ro-Kel) played Degra in 11 episodes of ST: ENT as a member of the Xindi species. After rewatching these earlier episodes for the hundredth time, I am still amazed that here we are, 11 episodes into the series and we still have not had a story that takes place in the Gamma Quadrant. The whole premise of this series was how exciting it was to have access to a new quadrant of the galaxy and to be able to explore it and what not. Yet here we are, 11 episodes and counting, and have not seen squat on the other side of the wormhole until episode 12. Ridiculous. Why did it take so long? I have 3 cats. If his cat's butt looks like that then Garret needs to take it to the Vet ASAP. Absolutely hilarious to watch the groupthink issue of the isolinear rods form as they all get it wrong and then continue to agree with each other about their shared false premise. As others have stated above, they use these rods throughout the series including the best episode of all "In the Pale Moonlight" from the 6th Season. I knew Armin was clearly wrong when he stated that he never used them again but forgot to post about it. My answer to why can't Odo make a good human face is thus: Some people can draw a face to perfection but most cant. Some can do this with natural skill but others require training. Odo is the same way. He does not have the natural skills to perfect a face but must learn the ability over time. If he were raised among his own people, I am sure they would have taught him. When the twin Miradorns are shown from the front, it is the same person. When they walk away the one in back who nods is clearly a different actor. I like the line from Quark about how Odo's people must all be paranoid. Great foreshadowing. If Odo was such a great security guy, should he not have removed a real glass from the tray before he became a fake one? Rom is an idiot but he still may have noticed the extra glass. The Miradorn Raider Ship is the exact same type that Picard was on while undercover in the two part TNG episode of "Gambit" in the 7th Season.

OK, love you guys. But... they are Cardassian isolinear rods because it is a Cardassian station with Cardassian technology. Not Federation. So there. Ha. Also, I think the patreon ratings are higher than yours are because we've seen all 7 seasons so we're rating it in the context of the whole show arc. But I also gave it a 5. Ha.
