I love John de Lancie & I generally really like Q but the way they write Q interacting with women definitely gives me "the ick" as the kids say. It feels very misogynistic & coercive. Like when he does all the weird stuff to Vash to "show her how dangerous the universe is" feels so gross to me!

Mike P

Q was in 12 episodes of that era: 8 TNG, 1 DS9, 3 VGR. Since then Lower Decks 1, various eps of Picard.

And on the subject of Oomax, has everyone seen this gem? 🤣🤣 https://www.facebook.com/share/v/daov1upHpCsxEera/?mibextid=jmPrMh

Good conversation. Agree about MOST of the complaints about TNG references here, despite liking those guest actors, and making sense they might have a run-in with DS9 due to their gateway to a distant part of the Galaxy. I think lumping that complaint in with references to Starfleet like the Daystrom Institute is a silly complaint as that's part of the wider universe, whether established by TNG or not.

Quark > InDesign 10000000000x over

If it wasn't for this ep I may have never watched DS9.

Where did the name Quark come from? I just realized I used to use a design program - Quark, pre-DS9 - very curious https://www.quark.com/Products/QuarkXPress

Loving the recap of DS9! I didn't watch it much when it was out or Voyager. I got caught up in the last 15 years and I will say Voyager and DS9 have a special place in my heart. Super grateful to be a Patreon member too. I HAVE A RANDOM QUESTION!! 😃

On the subject of replicators when you break the molecules down to atoms and then recombine them it makes something else. So, the bacteria and other fauna and flora are broken down with the other components and recombined into a new object. You aren’t exactly eating poop; you’re eating molecules from atoms from poop. We aren’t exactly stardust, we are molecules made from the atoms of stardust. Hope this helps. And an aside, having 7 brothers and 3 sons and being interested in evolution, things we do without thinking and traditions we practice are because they helped us survive. How has cracking up about burps and farts, a subject males are fascinated with and think are hilarious, helped us evolve?

Marcy Beard

Things that made me laugh every time: - ASSay - "Is it Odo?" -- like the show "Is it cake?"

Q introduced the Borg to the Federation decades ahead of when they might have met. He was considered one of the greatest threats to the safety of the Federation so I believe every officer would have been informed with whatever information they had on him.

Robbie & Garrett, you guys have to start getting the DIFFERENT mojo on DS9. Sisko has a very different style than Janeway, Picard & the other leaders…and he very much likes to give the subject “enough” rope so to speak.

A McGuffin is a misdirection a show, book or movie will use to make the audience believe something is true, but it is not… another American term for this is a red herring. Typically this is in mystery plots where they want us to believe someone caused something but they did not in this episode Q was blamed and he was not guilty of what they accused him of on the station.

Karen Chuplis

I always assumed the embryo was absorbing power to grow and have energy for birth.

Robert Allen Stiffler

Armin mentioned the term McGuffin. What is that?

Trenton Thompson

Armin asked how Superman and Lois Lane "got together". My head cannon goes to Brodie's explanation from the movie "Mallrats".
