‘Self-sealing stembolts’ and Yamuk Sauve enter Star Trek lore with this episode. I loved this episode. S1 and they have really dug into character at this point. Solid 8.3 PS Tangents are awesome. PSPS: Transparent aluminum

Good question, because Terry and Armin's ratings have been lower. But it could be that Robbie is enjoying DS9 more because it's new for him.

I agree with Terry on her reaction to the episode. I always felt the A story was pretty "meh" but I liked the Jake/Nog storyline.

Not sure why it should be surprising that Bajor has lush areas after talking about other areas being harsh. Earth has the Amazon and the Sahara on the same plant. Planets have different climates and biomes in different areas.

The generation talk amused me, as a lot of people in the 90s who were considered Gen X per some metrics are boomers now…like Terry and Robbie. It is weird and makes little sense, but nothing can be done… I say that as someone who in a lot of ways has more in common with people in other generations, but I digress…technically Gen X but grew up with computers and video games starting in Kindergarten…

I am loving these high scores from Robbie. A question though - do you feel that the DS9 episodes genuinely rate better than Voyager or do you feel you (and Garrett) may have a bias against your own show due to maybe being more self critical?

I LOVE Terry’s reactions to watching Jake and Nog! I just met Cirroc Lofton this past weekend at the Star Trek SF con and he was really cool to talk to! It was so surreal given that I had watched him grow up on my favorite show!

You use self sealing stem bolts in those situations where you are unable to manually seal your stem bolt.

I have no clue why they keep saying a liquid vial. There is NO visual evidence that there is any liquid at all. It is very annoying. I do not think that the numbers of houses that needed energy were high enough to make me feel that there were high stakes and drama. Hundreds of thousands of houses? Come on. Try hundreds of millions of people that need this energy. They are starving and freezing. Thats more like it. The loser is the Bajoran guy who traded the valuable land for the stem bolts. This is one of those "early series" episodes that does not matter at all in the general direction of the series. For those of us who have seen the entire series (multiple times), ask the question of "if this episode never happened, would anything change in the future". For this episode, the answer is no. About half of the 1st and 2nd season episode events could disappear and the story would still unfold as it did.

I think Bryan Keith’s natural rough charm is probably when smoothers the character out but I like it. I didn’t want to feel no sympathy for him. That would be to flat. Re: 60s boomers like thee and me, I think it’s the 1962 to 69 people have a sub label of the Jones generation. Just read about it recently. Check it out!

When Terry Farrell mentioned that Rick Berman wanted her performance as Jadzia Dax as a combination of Grace Kelly and Yoda, I was surprised. It never occured to me that Rick Berman had that characterization note. However, I kinda see in Jadzia, a hint of Grace Kelly's composed strength and Yoda's intelligence and wisdom in Terry Farrell's performance in the first season. "Progress" was an another good Kira episode, focusing on her relationship with Mullibok - a Bajoran farmer who shares her stubbornness and determination. It's been a while since I have seen this episode, however I feel that Kira, Sisko or someone would tell Mullibok that Bajor is no longer under Cardassian control and therefore, is safe for him to return to Bajor. But then... it sort of proves how stubborn Mullibok is and accentuates Kira's external and internal conflicts in this episode. I really love the scene where Captain Sisko recognizes Kira's strength and passion to help her people and reveals that he respects and empathizes with her. Overall, great character background on Major Kira as she has farming knowledge. Jake and Nog's Yamok sauce heist was funny and clever. Quark and Nog's relationship sort of, to a minimal degree, reminds me of Donald Duck's relationship with his nephews (how Quark would be harsh and derisive to Nog, but then would show a certain softness towards his nephew - "You're a Good Boy, Nog.") Jake and Nog's friendship is one of the most steadfast relationships in DS9, and all of the Star Trek franchises.
