We really needed her on the Voyager recaps when gum smacking was frequent

Dee McGee

"It was like Murder She Wrote on a space station."

Doni Marie Sanchez

I was really turned off by Terry’s attitude in this episode. She was quite opinionated and self righteous in her beliefs. Yes, science only and nothing else is a philosophy in itself. Just because you believe something doesn’t mean you’re right and others who believe differently are wrong. That’s how she came off. Robbie & Garrett came off as much more balanced or at least less aggressive

Jesus

I'm catching up on the podcast. I finished the Voyager part on the regular podcast, then subscribed and watched it again with the bonus content. I really enjoy the insights and I am very impressed with all of you guys, I am even taking notes and learning valuable personal lessons from you; however ... however, this is the second time that I have heard the "that's just a theory" in the context of science, and now I even heard that religion also has theories and that both scientific and religious theories can be proven wrong... this is the mother of false equivalencies, scientific theories are rational statements that have been tested, with results that have both been repeated and reproduced. Scientific theories begin with observations of the natural world which are used to formulate hypotheses. Once a hypothesis is tested and found to accurately predict another aspect of the studied phenomenon, and reproduced by other scientists, it may become a theory. Theories, can of course, be refined or even discarded in favor of other theories that can better explain and predict the phenomenon in other contexts. On the other hand, religious beliefs are not testable, if they were, then they would by definition, be in the realm of science. Religion in general, values faith and spirituality, and in some instances trying to prove those beliefs, "cheapens" religion. I would refer you, for instance, to St. Thomas and his lack of faith in Jesus' resurrection in Christianity as an example.

Kare Hinners

Garrett, Thank you on behalf of the good Karens everywhere :)

Constance

Why should atheist beliefs get 8 hours of teaching 5 days a week and religious beliefs get a few hours on one day - I don’t understand how anyone seeking tolerance would isolate such a foundational part of someone’s education. People should be able to openly discuss their faith in school.

Constance

Miles wasn’t there because he was with his family after something traumatic. Neela was there because Miles isn’t there; she is main part of engineering team helping assess damage

Constance

Kira wasn’t wrong to defend her faith, Win was wretched to use her faith to do something nefarious, that was the point. The point wasn’t that religion was bad or that faith is for the ignorant. I think the writers handled faith respectfully for the first time.

Constance

I really like this episode, one of the reasons is it defended faith, which never happens in trek. Kira explaining leaving faith out of education is a philosophy is a powerful perspective that I appreciated hearing on the show.

Sarah Allen

THANK YOU Robbie for commenting on the fire hose! It was so weird!! With fire being so, so dangerous on any sort of spacecraft they’d at least have sprinklers! 😂 And was it on Voyager or another Trek where a comment was made about fire suppression systems? I’m sure they have them. But maybe the Cardassians don’t take fire safety as seriously as they should…

So first of all, 1000% on team RDM about the SS story. Despite what they would want you to think, nothing on late night talk shows is spontaneous. All of that crap is written and rehearsed and the stars agree to all the questions beforehand. They are actors, its what they do. So don't believe for one nano second that Silverman was "put on the spot" and had to make things up, because that is not true. She planned to dis RDM for whatever reason way before the camera started rolling. If she wanted to make a point about SOME male actors acting like that then dis the ones that do, not my homie RDM. She is now CANCELLED for me. Buh bye. How interesting that this episode review should happen while the country is right in the middle of similar circumstances vis a vis the university protests and racist/religious zealot issues. 100% agree with RDM about the "cop show" feel. Have posted before about the only stable worm hole and we never go through it and explore in the 1st season. I mean wtf? Not sure this is a spoiler but ALERT!!! anyway. Vedek Winn states to Sisko that the "Prophets have spoken to her". Later we learn something different so this statement is either a lie or the story continuity gets changed later.

Karen

As a Karen, I have to agree. The jokes started off funny, then morphed into something entirely worse. The irony is, every actual Karen I've ever met is the nicest person. Fortunately, I've found that people are entirely aware of the difference between being named Karen and being called "A Karen." Still, I'd be happy for this trend to go away.

ChrisB

Love how Terry calls out the little boy behaviors!!!!❤️❤️❤️

Christopher Collins

Terry Ferrell Nimoy is the best at writing these limericks.

Christopher Collins

That was cool hearing how young the audience is to listen to this Patreon and podcast.

Ben

In regards where was Nog maybe Rom was still not letting him return to the school yet.

Stevie Moore

Voyager is the only reason I know Silverman but maybe that’s because I’m in U.K. It’s sad that she declined your offer to be a guest. She probably didn’t want to be called out on her lie about Robbie. Brush it off. Great episode. I LOVED to hate Kai Winn, which means she did her job well. Great actress!

Derek van Pel

Was hoping they'd mention one of my all-time favorite lines from Star Trek (that I wish I had the guts to say in everyday life): "I feel your anger towards me, and I forgive you for it." 🤣

Mars

Robbie seems genuinely like a good guy.

Mars

Love that I share a name with Terry’s nephew ♥️

Steve Brown

I'm a high school teacher, and I really disagree. If a religious figure stormed into my classroom and demanded I modify my curriculum to meet their personal beliefs, I'd tell them to go to hell.

Jeremy Taylor

It feels like she's in a lot more than 14 episodes. She leaves a big impact.

Emily Schuler

Voyager fans for SURE knew she was lying, Robbie! Never fear!

Normandy

Redheads rule!! Don’t say otherwise. 😂😂😂

Ja Dav

Louise Fletcher does indeed com back...thirteen more times. She's firmly among the stellar recurring cast of characters.

Jared Christopher

Thank you Terry for getting Robbie to take the gum out of his mouth! I love him, but it felt like nails on a chalkboard! :)

SnazzyO

Robbie: 9 days to get a cold, 9 days to have a cold, 9 days to get over a cold. Honey & lemon, mix, add boiling water drink after not scalding. [note: once a Mom, always a Mom]. Robbie, that SS dig hurts my heart. Louise Fletcher is fantastic as EVIL cleric. And the performance resonates today. I thought a Jumja stick was strawberry fruit leather reshaped as a bomb pop. Better mental image And Sisko is amazing in his journey on DS9. Deep waters. Word salad: Pure science IS a belief because there are unexplained phenomena that we BELIEVE have a scientific answer but just hasn’t found it yet.

Irene Artho

Thanks for mentioning the Karen thing. I have a friend named Karen, and also 2 German friends named Karin (the German version of Karen). I hate the whole "this name is bad" association. I'm curious how long it will take, until it's no longer politically correct to call someone a Karen. Though in that case we might have to discuss the name Dick as well..

Julian Gore

So unfair that Sarah Silverman made that suggestion about Robbie

Julian Gore

Messaged you on your Instagram, I really didn’t like Sarah Silverman’s comments about Robbie. Very unfair!

Kevin Wheeler

As a former teacher as well, I thought Keiko's handling of the original school issue showed her lack of education training. She was trained as a botanist - not an educator. There are a number of better ways to resolve that issue beyond just saying "no" as she did, and that would've resulted in a better outcome or at least defanged Winn's arguments.

Wrestling With Gaming

The last 10-15 minutes of this podcast were so wholesome. It's great hearing you all enjoy doing this podcast AND that it's enriched your lives, just like it's enriched ours.

Stefanie Coxe

More end of season reviews, please! Fun episode.

Karen Chuplis

I have enjoyed the Flyers since the beginning but going into DS9 it’s like a whole new show in a way. I love seeing it through all four of the hosts eyes. Really is a highlight of every week.

Sandra Stengel

Ugh, I've been there. I dreaded every cough and sneeze. They hurt so much! I finally got an inhaler, and that made my cough stop and let my ribs heal. I hope you are better soon!

AnNacht

I love this podcast to start my week and I want to share a few toughts: I the beginnig of your journey throught the wormwhole Terry was kinda nervous about doing the podcast, quite the same way like she was acting in the first episodes. I like it so much, that she is so much more relaxed around you guys. I also like the diffrent tone between the Terry- and the Armin-episodes... with Terry it has more goofy moments and with Armin you have the cool and smart older cousin around. And I really have to share the nickname two german StarTrek Podcaster gave to Vedek Bareil... There he is known as the "dirty deacon" and I really like alliteration.

Sailormarinero

You think 10 days is bad? I got laryngitis 8 weeks ago that wouldn`t go away for ages and now I still cough so badly that one rib got broken and another one fractured (at different stages of the 8 weeks). :-( Hope you feel better soon RDMcN!

Martin D

This always puts a smile on my face every Monday. I love their "ADHD" moments just as much as their episode review.

Vicky Thompson

30 seconds in and I’m already laughing. A great way to start off my Monday!

Jonathan Beresford

c'mon garrett. Space Karen is hilarious

ChrisB

Robin Christopher also had a nice run on the Good Witch as the cousin of the main character. She is a very good actor.

Christopher Marshall

Omg, THANK YOU Terry! Approximately 5 years ago, I was forced to move halfway across the country, to a state where I knew NOBODY - just so I could get healthcare (I have several serious health problems and I couldn't qualify for health insurance in the state of Utah, where I grew up, because I didn't have children.) Well, after more than 5 years - I still don't know anyone. And ever since I quit drinking, I haven't been able to find a place, event, or activity that I felt could help me meet people, and that would ALSO be something I'd enjoy and feel comfortable doing. So when you mentioned how you always started taking classes in cities where you were new - I realized that is PERFECT! I LOVE learning new things, especially art things (I'm really big into glass etching rn, but there are so many other mediums I'd love to learn.) I don't know why I never thought of this. I'm going to go check what's available first thing tomorrow! Thanks for the idea, Terry... after 5 years of just me, my dog, and my online friends - I REALLY needed this inspiration!

Andrew Murray

Yes, DS9 could come across as Law & Order: Deep Space Nine on occasions. But then Odo makes a great Detective Tutuola/Stabler/Benson/you name it of sorts.

Andrew Murray

being on the one location, could be a bit restrictive because one week you have Quark up to no good, Odo trying to shut him down, Bashir dealing with the 'medical emergency of the week' or Kira's conflict with her government or Starfleet, O'Brien trying to make sure the station doesn't fall apart, or Jake being stuck on the station under the supposed 'bad influence' of Nog.

Andrew Murray

If Picard was the Commander of DS9 his policy would be "no kids in Ops!". So I think it's Sisko's relaxed approach, while maintaining law and order so to speak that is the difference.

Kevin Wheeler

You guys are mixing up two different characters - Neela and Anara. Though you're right the actress (Benita Andre) that played Anara was originally intended to be the one in this episode, the role was recast with Robin Christopher and is a totally different character. We just saw Neela in Duet actually, even though it was only for a moment, which is probably why Robbie didn't notice her in that episode. Anara was only in The Forsaken and is who you're thinking of Garrett. From Memory Alpha: Neela was originally supposed to appear in three episodes of the season, making her debut in "The Forsaken" with the aim of making the audience believe she was to be a new recurring character so as not to make it obvious she was the villain. Unfortunately, the producers decided that the actress playing Anara in that episode wasn't the right type to be an assassin and so the role was recast as Neela.

Jeffra

Me, too, Robbie! Got COVID for first time in December and then just got over a cold that lasted two weeks! My last cold was definitely pre-pandemic.

Nicole Brettell

Very interesting podcast of another great DS9 episode! "In the Hands of the Prophets" was a great introduction of Vedek (later Kai) Winn Adami (portrayed by the legendary Louise Fletcher)! "In the Hands of the Prophets" had great dialogue and deep religious themes about the dangers of extremism. One piece of dialogue I particularly liked was Captain Sisko's speech against Vedek Winn's hypocritical statement against Starfleet; arguing that while his Starfleet crew and the Bajoran militia don't always get along, they always find productive ways to working together as a community and that he is "neither the enemy nor the devil".

Andrew Murray

Armin is right about Bajoran makeup - compared to Ferengi. Apart from the nose piece, most of it goes into reasonably elaborate costumes (but Star Wars Ep 1 still takes the lead for elaborate costumes (for Natalie Portman).

Phillip Grischa

Can you please not post spoilers?

Don Eitner

I despise the idea that a woman cannot be as tall as or taller than a man. I rather like it when I can look a woman straight in the eyes instead of over her head.

Don Eitner

Welcome Aeryn & Logan to the Major tier!

Preston M

My fav episode of s1

Jeremy Taylor

Now that Winn has been introduced, finally it's time -- Dukat/Winn Shippers, UNITE!

Peggy

Happy new week!
