Regarding the bonus material question about how the Bajoran underground would have known about the list. Its my belief that before Vaatrick was under suspicion by the underground for being a collaborator he would have had other Bajoran friends who were in the underground that Vaatrick might not have known were underground. They get wind of he may be a collaborator and investigate discovering the existence of the list in that investigation.

I really liked Robbie's limerick: "Quark's sneaky dealings leave him dead on the floor An old cold case Odo will not stand for It takes him back to the past Kira's honest - at last She hopes Odo will trust her once more" However! I was SO SURE he was going to end it with something about "Terok Nor"...

I think he didn't NEED a written list to remember 8 names, but he kept it so be able to say "if you do anything on me, there is a list with your names on it". That's probably why people knew there was a list too.

I think the point is we have repeatedly in Star Trek seen how much more advanced medicine is in the future. Neelix was revived after being dead for 18 hours (though that used Borg tech). So simply stabbing someone and then immediately declaring him dead seems incongrous.

I love the additional scenes Garrett comes up with 😄

Didn’t the wife blackmail the collaborators, hence the deposits in her account? That was her motivation.

ChrisB

Not justifying her behavior but yes, Kira was a rebel and she had to kill him so her cover was not blown, hence the name of the episode, “Necessary Evil.”

Messy relationships… The best part of DS9!

Knives are lethal on their own. In the chest, if the blade is plunged in and pierces the heart or pierces a lung in the back that can be fatal if immediate medical treatment is not applied. Even then it can be dicey. Knives can cause flesh wounds but not when they are plunged in.

Great Odo episode! Part of the awesomeness of Star Trek is any genre works. The sci-fi is that the characters are on a space station or a starship or another planet. Usually cool sci-fi things are used. Also, You don’t need other cast members when you don’t need them. Rene & Nana were fantastic! This episode is one of the best of DS9.

About the fan ratings: I think what accounts for the discrepancy is that as a film noir, the episode doesn't really have a sci-fi premise. You could set Necessary Evil in occupied Paris in the 1940s without having to change much in the script, and it would still be a great episode. Some Star Trek fans, those who watch the series *for* the sci-fi premises, are going to miss that. Something similar probably impacts the fan ratings of the Ferengi episodes, which are often (but not exclusively) comedies.
