I was along for the ride with this episode, really enjoyed it, until the end with "we just can't explain it" - what?? You wrote this fun mystery but you don't have a good ending? So many plot holes. My rating was way lower, until I listened to the podcast and y'all did a good job trying to fill the holes and help me understand what Odo was going through. OK, I'll buy some of that. Thank you, greatly appreciated!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe they are allowed lights in the lab. So when they put the substance under the glass, of course there’s gonna be some light reflection that would be normal.

The obelisk is a red herring. Star Trek does this quite a lot.

ChrisB

Lol! Terry is correct. Garrett is infamous for changing his rating!

Point is do not keep things in and stuff them to the point where you explode. There is no reason for that.

Parenting is always difficult, you only get one attempt at raising each child and each child is different so have to fly by the seat of your pants. I think you consciously taking that effort to engage with your child on their level and respecting their voice is important and something too few parents do. If your child doesn't fully appreciate this now (because, let's be honest, who fully appreciates the context of all in which we live and came before us as a teenager) I am sure it is something they will appreciate in hindsight as they grow older.

Everybody’s gotta understand that Odo is an unknown entity. What work has been done by Dr. Mora is a drop in the bucket pun intended.

I thought that too, so checked Memory Alpha (Odo’s Bucket): “Odo's bucket (also referred to as his pail) was a Changeling receptacle in which Odo stored himself when he had to revert to his natural, gelatinous state to regenerate. He generally stored it in the back corner of his security office, but would take it with him on trips off the station expected to take longer than sixteen hours (the length of time he could remain in solid form).”

“You had to speak in a voice loud enough for me to hear.” As a parent, this really resonated. Had no idea my seventeen year old child was autistic until they were twelve (girls hide it better). It’s as though we spoke completely different languages, with no universal translator. I dread to think how much damage has been done by incorrect parenting (and, admittedly, lockdowns just as we were realising). They tried to tell me, but we just couldn’t understand each other. They’re much happier in their own identity now, I can only hope for the future. Apologies for the tone of the post, it’s not often I feel understood.

I’ve watched this episode a couple of times but just realized the similarities between the doctor and Odo. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Thanks for pointing it out guys.

Did anybody hear the Jaws theme when the creature/odo was coming towards bashir?

I thought the pillar/obelisk thing was supposed to be a red herring. The volcanic activity that seemd to start right when it was removed. Dax taking a few moments to touch the pillar almost like she sensed something strage about it. Oh, that pillar moved?? Is it a shape-shifter attacking at night? Nope, Dax just had it moved.

I always took the 16 hour regen cycle for Odo as meaning he needs to regenerate after being up and around for 16 hours. Not that he needed to regenerate for 16 hours. That would mean he would have a similar cycle as we do.
