I'm just changing things up, with griffon half breeds having more pony features. The main character doesnt know that though, and merely assumes thats all of them.

Minor criticism (though not really focused around this chapter) but there was a mention of what I believe was a griffon in an earlier chap, however it was described as having hooves and talons. They actually have feline rear feet and talons up front though. Unless it wasn't a griffon that was being described, in which case nvm.
