Patron Version Video: the Moons and Stars Plane
🕑 Added 2024-12-21 12:00:09 +0000 UTCFriends:
Many of you were at my livestream last week where I broke a wooden plane in half. The plane itself is interesting, so I made a whole video about it. Stay tuned to the end for a special message just for my Patrons.
This is also my last full video of 2024. It's been a heck of a year, and I'm very eager to go on Winter Break. While I won't be posting full videos here, we have archived enough shorts to last well into the new year and they'll be coming out (almost daily) on YouTube.
I feel like I say this every year, so I'll keep it short: thank you. This is the end of my 8th year on YouTube and it's now been 6 years since I became a full time creator. None of it would have happened without all of you. The financial support is huge and let's me ignore the (increasingly pushy) sponsors who email me every single day. We've built a great community here and now we also have the Tool Trader platform where we can exchange the tools that make our passion possible. None of it would be possible without your willingness to try new things and help me test new ideas. Patrons gave Tool Trader a much needed boost and gave me necessary feedback so it could be improved.
You can be sure that my team and I will work hard to deserve your support in the new year and beyond. Happy and Healthy Holidays to you and your families. We'll be back in the second half of January.

YouTube does a terrible job announcing livestreams. I miss so many of them because of it :(

You know, I made one of those at a place I used to work, but I had a bit of a cart to start from, so i kind of cheated.

It's true. I was working at a local custom shop and the foreman and I just couldn't work together. So i left. And i started this instead. Technically, it's just 2 businesses. Compass Rose is a separate company and everything else is under my content business, but i take your point. I'm the boss now and it's all with the mission of making life easier for woodworkers. I'm very fortunate that my work makes a contribution. Thanks for noticing!

I certainly learn a lot when i do these videos, so I'm glad others do too!
Rex Krueger
I'm certainly going to try. Thank you!
Rex Krueger
That's very encouraging to hear! I hope you get a little time off, too!

The leaks are fine now....but it's also not raining. Happy Holidays to you, too!!

I have a similar thought. How about doing a multi part video about making a wooden fore plane or even a jointer plane.

Your analytical skills amaze me. You’d make a great engineer. BTW even though we’ve never met face to face I consider you a friend. Your respect for your patrons is engaging. Have some great holiday time. Spend time with your daughter. She’ll hate it, she’s at that age but they grow out of it. That’s how my daughter turned out. In fact she can’t wait to get here to see us.

I miss it too. I know that doesn’t help with YouTube views but you hang some stuff on the end of videos for us how about some special intro’s
LiraNuna
There was a live stream? And I missed it? sadness.

Merry Christmas and happy new year to you and your family, Rex 🤗

You're the only creator on patreon who I watch through every installment. And I'm patron to about 15 creators. Your skill at writing, making, and "figuring it out" are such a delight. Your humor, attitude, personality and sincerity make every watch a real pleasure. Thank you so much, Rex (bring back the interstitial "Rex figures it out - I really miss that!)

Thank you, Rex for all of the inspiration you provided this last year. Best wishes to you and the family for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hope you finally get the leaks in the roof fixed. See you next year.

You have helped me grow as a woodworker, thank you! Enjoy some time "away" and Happy New Year :)

You are THE BEST, Rex. Rest and relax to your heart’s content—you certainly deserve it!!

I love these sorts of furniture forensics, now tool stories. I think it's a fun way to explore older styles & techniques without actually needing to get involved in a whole build

Rex and crew, enjoy your break. As you talked about everything you have going on, I thought about something I heard about the beginning of your YouTube journey; that it started because you lost a job. That could be completely wrong, seems like I saw or heard that somewhere. So you lost your job started this and now YOU are an employer. You own and operate like four companies, your YouTube/Patreon enterprise, Compass Rose, your woodworking plans sales, and Tool Trader, and while you make a buck, you do all these things to make life easier hobbiest like me easier. That’s the American Dream in living color! I bet you are an awesome boss too. Thanks for all you do. BTW, watching started by trying to find a video to make a spokeshave. It work great. I’ve made some nice gifts for military friends. It is a pleasure to support your work.
