It's when we celebrate a plot to blow up the houses of parliament by setting fire to effigies of Guy Fawkes, and generally burning everything. The town where I work is, if you like, the powder keg of it all, and everyone goes FUCKNG NUTS. I hate fire, and I hate fireworks, so... please spare a thought for me!

Sigh... why oh why would people take something so beautifully symbolic and muck it up in this way. We still 'celebrate' Guy Fawkes day in South Africa, being an ex British colony (thank you for Cricket and Rugby, by the way, much obliged), and even though legislation has banned fireworks for the most parts due to the terror that it causes animals, small children and those sensitive to sounds, people ignore this and fire away to their hearts content, relying on the fact that there are not enough law enforcement officers to police every square meter of the entire country. Idiots. PS: I see that they incorrectly represented the Zulu's in the article, who would be extremely upset at the strange outfit on that person in the article, which is not anywhere resembling anything from down here. :-) PPS: There are 19 languages spoken in South Africa, and as many cultures, not just Zulus, and all of them as formidable. Except maybe those like me who are a mixture of everything under the sun (Irish, British, German, Khoisan). We just want to exist in peace as we don't really have any culture, we just are. :-) PPPS: I don't know if it is PC or not to discuss culture on the social media platform, as I'm extremely socially awkward, but in South Africa discussing cultures are really not a big deal at all, so if I have offended or insulted anyone, I humbly ask pardon. :-)

We have firework happy neighbours. It freaks out the cats to no end, every time there's a holiday that is deemed firework worthy. I've taken to giving them extra blankets, and listening to something on earphones those nights. Sending you peaceful thoughts. FWIW, I often listen to ASMR because it's one of the few things I can listen to loudly without it becoming overwhelming. Your work, and the work of others is very helpful.
