Spike recorded vampires fighting Buffy, I tend to any prefer angel in many ways

-Prefer Angel's theme. Buffy's theme is fun, but Angel's is beautiful & emotional. - Fun fact Glenn Quinn (Doyle) apparently was a close friend of David Boreanaz irl before doing the show. - The song has a famously notorious mistake. The final clip where Angel walks away down the alley, you can see his reflection in a puddle of water. - There seems to be a big plot hole with the demon this episode. They set up that he can only swap bodies after an exchange of fluids, but then we immediately see him try to hop into Kate with no exchange having happened between them. If he could do that to start with, surely he could have grabbed anyone at the bar and tried again? Never made sense to me. - Re Kate's comment about talking to the bartender a dozen times and never realizing: they think he was a serial killer. They're putting down all the disappearances around the bar to him. They don't (can't) know that a demon was hopping from body to body and he was just the last victim. So they have to assume he was responsible for all the disappearances.

Elizabeth Rohm, the actress who plays Kate Lockley, was in Law & Order for 5 years as ADA Serena Southerlyn. I really love the music for the montage: "Touched" by VAST.

This is an episode that's grown on me the more I watch it - like you suggested, it doesn't really compare to the heights the series will reach, but it's a solid MOTW that builds nicely on the pilot. As a massive Angel fan, it should come as no surprise that I prefer this theme, though Buffy's is definitely more nostalgic. I loved seeing you gush about Legacy of Kain - I grew up playing those games and the writing and storytelling is really fantastic. I don't know if watching playthroughs is something you're interested in, but a YouTuber called Mapocolops recently started the series and is absolutely loving it - his enthusiasm has been infectious and I've gone back and played through the series again in the last few weeks. I'll link his playthroughs here if you want to check them out: Blood Omen: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhnazjUB_WkLYV9yZ3iRWHQi9SgMlG_Ke&si=tXw1qr_vzOHlnwS- Soul Reaver: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhnazjUB_WkJKUuUVRedIIT7O5GvaUc7f&si=3bRP-xPEeVuwQyHY Soul Reaver 2: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhnazjUB_WkJNghAGKtX_9NBxc48XrXDx&si=BlBMwDEhRUpBnWAM Anyway, thanks for another fun reaction Veggie! 💜

From the Investigating Angel podcast: The two themes are closely related. They are both in the same key. They both start with the same four notes, with one being an octave higher in the Angel theme. Buffy's theme is said to code male, being a four-note motif, while Angel's theme codes female and is melodic. That said, I like them both and they each represent their own show in a sort of loving respect to the show's character. Overall, I find the Buffy theme to be more fun and Angel's is more moody and emotional. It's a good thing they never changed them like some shows do.

I think the Buffy theme is more memorable for me and more iconic, although the Angel theme is great too. This was a great episode, I've forgotten so many Angel episodes it's so good to be revisiting them. Angel definitely feels darker and more 'grown up' than Buffy, at least all the Buffy that there has been up to this point, which is great and helps it stand alone.

Ha, I love the meme. That made me LOL. Great reaction, Veggie. I don't remember if I liked this episode much when I first saw it, but I really like it now. I've found that sometimes a reaction to an episode can determine how much I enjoy an episode I don't care for on my own, so maybe your reaction made it great, I don't know. Either way, I enjoyed watching it with you. Been thinking about whether I like Angel's or Buffy's theme better, and I think I like them equally. I can't choose. Everyone not recognizing that the image on the card was an angel bummed me out too. It made me feel bad for Cordy. LOL She's really trying to do her part here.

Yeah, while I do like the Angel theme, for me it will not beat out the Buffy theme. Maybe that's the nostalgia talking, but that's my opinion on it.

Hi! Not brand new to your Patreon, but this is my first time commenting. It's great that you're enjoying Angel so far -- it's definitely meant to be a show that deals with more adult anxieties. In this episode for instance, it always seemed to me that the demon was pretty much a direct metaphor for STIs, specifically AIDS, which at the time this was made (late 1990s) was still considered a death sentence. I watched both BtVS and Angel back when they aired so it's been fun re-watching with you so far. Angel goes off in some really unpredictable directions over the course of its 5 series, can't wait to see how you will react! And, yes, the Angel theme is far superior!
