Oh man, Buffy dying was my least favourite part 😭 but then Buffy, Tara and Spike are my fav characters so when anything bad happens to them I'm devastated lol and yes Spike was good👍

Dutchkel

My fav episode of Buffy ever. I cry every time the song Sacrifice starts playing on top of that tower.

I have an acrylic block of that line in "Buffy font" displayed in my room. One of the realest things said on this show tbh.

The only thing I don't like about the season is that there were not enough stand alone episodes. Too much Glory, she was brought in way earlier than other seasonal big bads. The Buffy coma episode just seemed like filler. A lot of the scenes with the monks could have been cut as well. But Glory was a good villain and I love that Giles was the hero killing Ben. So cold.

Now that we've seen Buffy say that Dawn was "made out of her" I can share my favourite fan theory: that the encounter with Dracula in the first episode was actually crafter by the monks as a way to get Buffy's blood to create Dawn.

Garry (Not Jerry)

Also the crazy guy in Dawn’s first episode says “curds and whey”

Diego Zenhäusern

Welp, guess my prediction from last episode was off 😅

This was the absolute first episode of Buffy I ever saw while channel surfing on the telly. At 11 years old, Buffy's look of contentment when she realises she can die and be free spoke volumes to me that I wouldn't understand until much later. I immediately started binging from season 1 after that. This remains one of, if not my ultimate, favourite Buffy eps. Everything about Buffy's death scene - from the score, to the visuals, especially the sky turning orange, the look on her face...everything was beautiful. I loved it so much.

I think my favorite thing about this episode is the way it pulls in so much of the rest of the season: the troll hammer from Triangle, the Buffy Bot, Tara having been mind-sucked, Xander's construction job, the demon guy who helped Dawn with the resurrection spell for Joyce... defeating Glory was such a team effort, and the emotional final scene is just gorgeous.

Buffy looked happy when she realised she could die instead, such a shame she’s at the point of feeling that way. Tara called it when she called Giles a killer. I’m glad Dawn was willing to jump, shows a lot of growth in a short time, although I can’t believe she had the gall to call Ben a monster when she was angry at him for not killing himself for her, she absolutely assumed he should die for her and clearly felt her life mattered more than his despite the fact she is the fake person and the reason everyone was in danger. Poor Spike was genuinely devastated, it shows he feels a lot more than a vampire is supposed to, he’s definitely unique in that.

in the finale of season 3, (in faith and buffy's shared dream) faith says "little miss muffet couting down from 730". 730 days is exactly 2 years. so, 730 days (two seasons) from faith and buffy having that shared dream, buffy died. absolutely insane how much they planned this show.

Tommy Ross

I love how Victorian you get when Spike makes a sexual innuendo. The offended propriety is endearing.

Hanneli Norrgard

Again, not a favorite of mine. I feel like there's way too much at the beginning that's unnecessary and leads to a very rushed ending. Maybe that's the point, but I hate rushed endings. The best parts in this? Buffy died, and Spike was good.

I’d just like to thank you for your time and effort this season. I know it’s been hard and you really powered through for us. I never noticed a dip in quality at any point. You were great as always and I would never expect you to sit and pretend or not say how it affected you/the personal relevance to your life, when you’ve built your channel off being open and honest!! You’re so genuine, that’s why we love you!! Anyway, I really appreciate it 🖤

This episode means so much to me. I agree it’s one of the best and if not, the best of the season. I’m a sucker for Fool for Love personally. I’ll try briefly touch on the points that I think stand out most. The fight choreography up the tower was amazing, you’re right, it felt like a video game in the best way. I’d LOVE to play that level. The music is so beautiful, the song is called “Sacrifice” and I can’t listen to it without crying. It’s melancholy but somehow uplifting, just beautifully made. However, when you look it up on Spotify, it’s part of an album which shows stuff from later episodes, very obvious spoilers. Maybe YouTube is better? I’m not sure. Buffy’s speech to Giles about not being able to cope anymore feels so poignant to me. When the time comes at the end, before she jumps, I think that Buffy almost seems relieved. She doesn’t have to fight anymore, she doesn’t have to be the slayer anymore, she doesn’t have to make these hard decisions that hurt or turn her to stone. It’s quite sad to see where she was the last time she died, at 16 at the end of season 1 and she was so upset. After all she’s been through, 4 years later, she almost seems relieved. Honestly, part of me thinks she was glad. I think it’s an interesting link back to Fool for Love where Spike said that every slayer has a death wish. And we finally know what death is her gift means, she gave her life to save the world!! Anyway, I love her speech at the end. It always makes me cry. It’s so beautiful and she’s right, the hardest thing in this world is to live in it and takes a lot of bravery to keep going! Here’s the theory I mentioned before that I would reveal later about Dracula, Buffy and Dawn’s creation, “Though his appearance certainly seemed out of place, as there was no prior indication that he was anything more than myth, a fan theory on Reddit posits that Dracula might have been sent by the Order of Dagon to obtain Buffy's blood. In doing so, they would be able to use said blood to give the key human form (Dawn).” Dracula shows up out of nowhere, drinks Buffy’s blood and then by the end of the episode, Dawn is introduced despite not being mentioned the whole episode. I personally like to accept this as my head-canon!! Finishing Angel first and then onto the most controversial season and my person favourite!! Can’t wait!!

Of course Buffy is gone, didn't you know the series gets renamed in season 6 to Xander and the Slayerettes!? Great reaction Veggie, hopefully you're feeling okay and looking forward to Angel! Have a lovely weekend :)

Thanks Raven! I saw her in his arms, but I must admit I did miss the head move. Thank goodness. When she first came into the show I would have NEVER guessed she would be one of the team, but I am so happy she is!!

Raven Dark

Now that I'm finished the whole reaction... I couldn't tell if you saw it, because you were wiping your eyes at the time, but Anya is fine, or at least she's still alive. She was in Xander's arms, and she lifted her head for a second before resting it back on Xander's shoulder. Such a fantastic reaction, Veggie. Just as I expected it would be.

VEGGIE GAMER

Haha, I wouldn't read too much into the blurbs! XD Sometimes I want to try and hide events of the episode even in them!

Giorgia M

Oh I’m scared that by your little blurb that you weren’t super emotionally impacted by the events of the episode because of not buying it… wish me luck!

Raven Dark

I skipped ahead to hear your thoughts because I couldn't wait to see what you thought of this one, so I say this without seeing the reaction to the episode yet. While I love season 6 and 7, season 5 is my favorite. In addition to that, this episode is, hands down, my favorite episode of the entire series. It's sad but beautiful, it's epic but kept simple, and it feels like an incredible ending that is perfectly set up. Going in now...

Alicia Patron

Veggie, thank you for continuing on and getting through this season. The quality of your reactions remains top-notch! Funnily enough, my perception since the original airing was always that season 4 was pretty weak and season 5 was a return to form, but to be honest during this re-watch I enjoyed season 4 so much more. Season 5 was difficult for me this time around. Maybe I just appreciate the goofy comedy of season 4 more now than I did back then when things in the real world weren't so fraught. I'm also really looking forward to season 6 since for some reason I didn't watch the second half of it when it first aired.

Inseriousity

A great end to a great season. Thanks for these reactions Veggie :)

JosieMorita

I looked up the season 5 overview but it has some spoilers. If I remember correctly, they filmed them for all seasons at the beginning of filming season 7, for the DVD release. But this might be spoiler-free and entertaining: Demonology - A Slayer's Guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRXRpFs9Drk&list=PL08KsDLyHCLEXMGiTkhFGn58iotdwn-Ht&index=27

Tysm! I knew someone would correct me. Either way, I know that the new network (UPN apparently) didn’t really have anyone supervising how sexy the show was allowed to get… 😏

JosieMorita

The network thing was the other way around. It started on the WB and went to UPN after season 5.

FandomReferenceHere

Gosh I love this season, and boy does it stick the landing. Buffy was not renewed by the network (UPN?) and this was designed to be a series finale if needed. A different network (the just-created WB) picked up the show for the last two seasons. Weirdly, UPN kept Angel, so the two shows are on different networks from this point forward. Doc is played by Tony-winner Joel Grey, who was the original Emcee in Cabaret on Broadway, and also the original Wizard in Wicked. He is pure talent and you can feel how effortlessly he plays this mysterious bad guy. Sending you love from Texas, Veggie! Thank you for such awesome reactions to our favorite show.

Dipper

Take a moment to mourn for the alien world that just got infested with a bunch of human politicians and lawyers.

Audra Foxgrove

Without getting too cheesy, I’ll probably never stop being emotional about the line “The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.”

Claire Eyles

I think we were all too busy running to the Buffy messageboards to figure out wtf was happening.

JosieMorita

They did something similar in Germany at the beginning of the season with Dawn. "Buffy's got a sister now! Where does she come from? What's going on? Oooh, mysterious!"

VEGGIE GAMER

Claire, that. Is. CRAZY!!! I hope they got a lot of complaints about that!

Claire Eyles

Just about to watch the reaction, but this episode was actually completely spoilt in Australia when it first aired. TV promos leading up to this episode all showed Buffy's grave. It was like, "why, why would you show that?".

VEGGIE GAMER

Oh! I should ask at this point, if there are any extras or goodies you would like to see a reaction to before we start Season 5, let me know!!
