Quite the case of "no good deed goes unpunished."

Conrad Wong

From Minister of Finance to Legate-- now Rain gets to order all the soft tofu pudding he wants!

That I saw coming. Still very very very enjoyable. Time to get all the monies and all the people behind Falling Rain.

She's pretty much saying that if you take the time to react, you've already lost. Acting is better, and fastest when body acts on its own

I may have misunderstood but I think there is some error in the line "action is always faster than reaction" (veil mentor to sarnai). It seems strange, especially with the previous sentence.

shitfug

Not sure if there's any real grammatical error but when he says "pride because of how little rain showed the temperament " i don't intuitively read that as little rain showinv temperament, but that rain showed little temperament.

Qrystof

Don't forget, the people are bad asses. Think navy seals compared to top soldiers. Yeah, both experienced and capable. But who is going to get the nod to take out a terrorist leader when everything is on the line?

Qrystof

Tell me about it. What a fookin turn around....

MagicDownUnder (MDU)

How strong are these guardians? It seem like the People were dealing with them rather easily.

Allastin

....woah

Arnon Parenti

T'is just a flesh wound Must be this chappy's meme

That's the issue with a dynastic power system set up like this, infighting will always block the majority of cooperation and progress, backstabbing your allies can get you pretty far, and once that starts the entire system shifts to one that favors psychopathic behaviour, pushing that to the top where it trickles down, as more and more of the people in power are looking out exclusively for themselves. This is why revolutions happen, as soon as there is no seriously credible outside threat to citizens lives they will rebel in a situation like this. Obviously as there has been a VERY credible outside and internal threat for millennia that hasn't happened with this system yet. The funny thing is that if the defiled simply fortify the fuck out of their new province, purge the psycho old defiled and keep the "chosen" who seem to at least be able to function as humans, and leave the empire alone for a couple of decades it will collapse into warring factions, and the defiled can move in a decade after the fighting starts to be hailed as heroes by the peasantry.

Michael Henson

Baatar is a brutal pragmatist on the surface, hiding a brilliant tactical and strategic mind, hiding a gruff, yet deeply loving father and husband. He's one of the best written characters I've ever seen in any book. Love him to death. Also yeah, Rain is gonna be a little depressed, but he's also extremely effective at leading, and this gives him the chance to do so without having to lead from the front, which (if my back of the napkin math, and random assumptions are right) he won't be able to do for another year or so in story time. By that point if he continues his current recovery he should be able to match himself at his previous best, and only grow from there.

Fun chapter

A disgruntled nondescript squirrel

I see napalm cannons and rows upon rows of crossbows in the future

Andrew

Thank you!

lala jhones

With Rain calling the shots it is now time for all the crossbows, poison, man made floods, cannons etc. to see real combat!

Worldknower

Im not sure what to think about the imperials anymore. Obviously there are some bad apples among them, but it still seems like whoever is on top is moving things in the ideal way for the empire, all the while without showing themselfs. Jixing died to imperial plot for sure, but whose plot.

Arnon Parenti

Tell me again, the emperor asked his servant, why have they rebelled? Yang Jixing stole all their Shrimps Is shrimp a euphemism? No great one, the servant paused, it's literal shrimp.

Archit Goel

Great chapter, although the way you wrote Rain here could have been better. He came out as, I don't know...unconcerned, emotionless...? Also the last line of "Falling Rain as Legate"....rather than writing about benefits of being "legate", I think if u wrote how dumbfounded everyone was, that would be more satisfying.

K A N O

I always enjoy baatars perspective or conversations he’s involved in. He always keeps a calm head and is decisive in his actions. Looking forward to him and rain working to save the empire even though it will probably go haywire with rain being depressed about people dying because of his orders again.

Alric Good

Hell yeah go rainy go rainy

Well well well. How the turn tables. Pray for the outer regions now that Imperial power rests on Rain's fingers.
