Hello, everyone!
This week we've been focusing on coding and SFX. A fresh batch of renders was polished and post-processed, which meant they needed to be prepared for their final resting place. The cold, dark archives of Summer Heat.
Aside from coding and SFX, we've also been working on some script and dialogue enhancements. There were some areas where Finnish grammar has caused some proper destruction of the English language. Sometimes it's probably quite offensive to any grammar police out there, and those are the parts we try to shield your eyes from. We're not native speakers after all, but we try our best to make the dialogue flow as naturally as we can.
This weekend we'll continue working on a bigger scene. It's a bit messy, but we know how to make it work with repeating angles and renders. This approach doesn't have many downsides since the branches are separate, except that it might look a bit confusing in the folders. But that doesn't really matter since the renders are not meant to be viewed from there anyway.
Angles & thoughts
Back in 0.1 we started the game with all the renders in first person POV, and from there we have progressed into a mix of pretty much all angles. For 0.7 we've kept the hybrid approach with a little bit of everything. We've been switching the angles up when necessary or when focusing on something, like some totally necessary shots from behind.
For example, Sophie in this render. Unfortunately she's in the blur, but she's still important for the shot. For reasons.

Is your "pre-preview preview" a picture Mia is taking of Eve climbing out of the school window? That's what it looks like. haha I voted for Mia in the January poll, but Eve dominating is ok with me. I'm super happy with either Mia ๐ฅฐ or Eve ๐ winning.

You can update faster than before. Now I count v7 1489 renders very fast, v6 1800 renders, v6 took 12 months to develop, but v7 took 5 months faster than before. Thank you for the great game.

I like the "hidden angle" renders, The one with the magnifying glass. Sometimes a smile towards the MC can be the best shot, but at the same time showing an alternative angle to show the girl from the side gives it an great effect. I think there were some in Chapter 6 with Bree. Can't wait to see if we see Eve in this "big scene" or someone else. Also, first Preview? However, keep up the great work ๐

I think I got too excited waiting for this Devlog but I've just come to the end of my second playthrough and can't believe how much awesomeness I missed first time around! Totally unrelated to this Devlog but I just have to give massive praise for the phone dynamic, everything from the home screen to selecting the apps and that's before we even get to the messaging part which, I think you've excelled at and the fact that there's branches even in that which affects the plot and future scenes is just top tier! Better than anything I've seen in any other AVN tbh. Speaking of better than anything, I'm excited to hear you've been working on SFX. I know we're spoilt in SH for sound FX because it's all the way through, everything, if it makes a noise we can hear it and I love that. That's very unique (I think) and it's done exceptionally well. Also done exceptionally well is hiding these grammatical errors from us. I don't think I've seen one so whoever you have translating or proof-reading is doing a proper job there. In terms of dialogue, Summer Heat is one of the best written AVNs out there because everybody talks....well....normally! Like, exactly as you'd expect them to talk. This is something that should be standard across the board but you'll know as well as I that it sadly isn't, and therefore, you deserve praise for your writing. Just on that real quick, you're writing is so good in the game and on these posts, that I didn't even know you were Scandinavian until I saw a post somewhere where you said you were Finnish! I genuinely thought you guys were English speakers, Australian or something maybe even English. Sorry but that's a testament to how good the writing and grammar is! As for the angle work, I think you guys do it really well. Personally I prefer the 1st person POV but whenever there's another angle, it works, you can see there's a reason for it and it adds loads of depth to the game ๐ I'm not so keen on the back of MC's head cos I don't like his hair (even after you fixed it, sorry) but that's just me and you can't please all of the people all of the time....but you're certainly coming pretty damn close! Hello Rob and Npx, my favorite developers are releasing their DevLog and now the weekend is about to begin for me. Today Eve is back in the banner...what a wonderful sight. Wow, you've been really busy again. I also really want to go into the cold, dark archive of SH Don't worry about the grammar. I think it's good and I can read and understand all the texts very well. English is not a native language for me either, but I still understand your texts very well. I really like the idea of the different directions and I liked the fact that they kept alternating. I think it's good that you are keeping this up. And I've missed the poll again. Somehow Patreon is totally crazy for me. I'll go and have a look in a minute and give my Sophie the vote she deserves. I think the hybrid approach is definitely the way. It's nice to have a variety of different shots and even nicer to have the totally necessary behind shots ;) I do wonder if/when we'll see MC's face with them though ๐ค. Thanks for the update and have a nice weekend! ๐
