I did this sketch last night, an idea I’ve had in my mind for a good while now. Not trying to think too much about whether or not it would sell well as a print, but I understand that for the average person, they’d rather buy “Donkey Kong is horny for Mario who is flattered” more than “Legally-distinct giant monkey beast is horny for chunky Italian construction worker who is flattered.” But I’d rather deal in homages and parody than one-to-one fanart, so this is where we’re at. (Yes I know I have some stickers and images that are directly fanart, but I don’t generally prefer doing that compared to original stuff, especially when it comes to things I wanna sell.)
If I’m being honest, I really like it, but I’ll probably go in and push the DK stand-in further so he doesn’t look SO much like Donkey Kong, and probably push the hero character a bit further from Mario, too. I want the homage to be clear but not so close that it’s disappointing that it’s not just the thing I’m referencing, if that makes sense.
In any case, I hope you like where it’s at so far! We’ll see if I return to it. I’m skewing toward “yes.” But we’ll see!!!
