Yes I read the same thing as well, it was so heartbreaking. Hope this post changed some hearts and minds :(
I read something not so long ago about a veterinarian that was publicly asking pet owners to stay beside the little ones until the last moments he was telling that the poor pets keep looking for his owner the whole time and that was heartbreaking to see them going away in that state.
