Military Aviation History

Ah I misunderstood. Thank you very much for sharing them, word of mouth like that is incredibly helpful!

Actually Chrisrppph, it was my friend's dad, as i said. I post pretty well all of your videos on my Facebook page and get positive response to them. Keep up the good work

I wonder if the limitations to the range of the C-46 (compared to C-47) were part of the reason for that. Self-sealing fuel tanks usually cut into volume, thus decreasing capacity

Hey David, thanks for letting me know about your dad's experience:)

The final useless act in the military’s fascination with airborne assaults. Airborne never fulfilled its alluring promise of lightning strikes behind enemy lines.

Thought you might find it interesting.

Hi Christoph. As usual i posted the link on my Facebook page. One of my friend's father was in the Canadian parachute unit. Here's what he wrote: It's easy in hindsight, 77 years later, to criticize but at the time it was seen as a very successful operation. And he doesn't even mention the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, which is unforgivable. 😉 My dad was in that battle, said it was the worst jump he'd ever done. It was a daylight jump, and they came in low and slow, to minimize hang time. The aircraft he was in was hit by flak and was in flames when he jumped. The defenders in their drop zone were Germain airborne, and the fighting was furious.

To produce an airplane that would be used in combat without self-sealing tanks at that stage of the war, seems ridiculous. Great videos though 👍
