Kconraw

Thx for the chapter

Olof Karlsson

Thanks for the chapter!

Polish Squirell

maybe it brings you back to what you think you are (what you see yourself as)

Xarow

Could be right. Looking forward to finding out. I kind of attributed Minaga’s doing poorly to unique life form rivalry and badmouthing.

Frederik

Na I dont think it is as easy as justifying why he should have a blessing but more of a hard rule of the System to somewhat Balance unique lifeforms

Frederik

No am am pretty Sure everyone was returned to there birth grade grade So E grade for most humans G grade for humans from pre Integration C grade for sylpie because she was "Born" c grade likely D grade for Fallenking a true dragon hatchling would likely made B grade (or maby the start of his current grade if he isnt technicly B grade)

TwistedVanity

Loved the chapter thank you. However, Query sword Saint if the challenge dungeon just returned them to D grade, why did it return him to pre system old man? The others were returned to D grades not pre system. So shouldn't he have been in decent health and fitness? Plus. Some of the other C grades took over a hundred years to get too C grade shoring up their foundations. So why didn't they revert to 100year old pre system bodies then? If this is to get him to explore time magic surely a conversation with Jake could provide that impetus?

Kaibutsu

It's his path to be and "old man", even Viper and Aeon as primordials said he gives them old age vibes even tho for them he is baby that barely started his life.

Seen Death

On one hand, a curse mark could be cool, but if the curse aspect isnt good enough it would only make it more easy to notice it being applied, or easier to be dispelled. On the other end, jake also uses his mark to keep track of friendlies sometimes so having mark become purely aggressive could make it less useful

Anthony Smith

I could see him using his arcane affinity with I think is made up of creation/destruction. He then uses his arcane affinity to destroy soulshapes directly. Possibly even more so when he gains his soul flame.

JJB4345_80_815

I'm surprised that the Fallen King has taken the longest! He's (or their's? No gonads'?) always been the most impatient and gets uppity when someone wastes his/their time. I hope Jake nags him/them terribly for being so slow when they meet up... 😁🤞

JJB4345_80_815

I agree with you in thinking that 10% for reaching Valdemar at all as low AND Justin saldana for believing that if he had an extra life or two to face Valdemar without receiving his recognition would probably have earned competitors 15%. Even before the murderers row of Champions there was Gudrun, the Benevolent Monk, and the scary illusionist dark/(emo?) Fairy that people could easily lose to, it just seems borderline impossible for even the best fighters to find counters against EVERYTHING that the Colosseum of Mortals threw at them... Compare that to the Test of Character or Minaga's Labyrinth or even the Endless Journey, it seems like those are three Challenge Dungeons where it should be easier to earn a 10% score...

JJB4345_80_815

I'm gonna guess that the King will be around 40-50%. Why? Well, unique lifeforms tend to have a very narrow path as explained in one of the God TV snippets. Minaga hinted to Jake that the King was doing poorly in his Labyrinth and I can't see him submitting 10 submissions to the Architect that are both diverse and top quality. His best Dungeons should be the Colosseum of Mortals & the Test of Character. As for Dina, I can only guess 75-85%??? She should have slayed the Endless Journey and House of the Architect while doing quite well in the Test of Character and Minaga's Labyrinth and I think Colosseum of Mortals but I don't really know either. 🤷

Khaleel Mansi

I think the SS fucked himself in the evolutions by staying old, he could have easily change his body to a fit man, Jake for example is now at least 120 years old including all the time dilation trainings

DasGoat622

I don’t think 15% is an option. Same as 5%. It’s 10% for high performance. 20% is Top performance. 25% is being perfect or doing the impossible. Beating Valdamer (was considered impossible). Minaga’s Labyrinth and Endless Journey were perfect runs.

Rezkin

No, I think you are slightly overestimating them.

Nick O'Gara

Rain, time and void. Are SS known affinities.

Bobby B

LET’S GOOOO!!!! Moving on to the rest of the floors of Nevermore.

Bobby B

I believe his affinity is water not time. While his use of time magic is there in his paintings, he uses water in several of his skills and attacks.

Joshua Smock

I got the same impression

Xarow

Prediction, I am going with 75% for King as although I bet he face-plants with some he will blast those in his comfort zone. 95% for Dina as I think she has a much stronger bloodline than has yet been covered. I think she will equal Orange Chitto, his is highly focused but hers has more diverse potential allowing her to gather more % across the 5 dungeons.

Xarow

I am going with 75% for King as although I bet he struggles with some he will blast those in his comfort zone. 95% for Dina as I think she has a much stronger bloodline than has yet been covered. I think she will equal Chitto, his is highly focused but hers has more diverse potential allowing her to gather more % across the 5 dungeons.

Michael Fannon

5 percent is getting to the champions. 10 for getting to Valdemar. 20 for fighting Valdemar and getting his recognition. 25 for actually beating him. The SS is an old man, and was turned back into his presystem self. It's a testament how badass he is to still go that far that handicapped.

Johnny_B

I see a cursed mark of the primordial hunter (mythic) incoming.

Luke Scheffe

It randomly occurred to me that the Fallen King probably could bypass the restriction on unique life forms gaining blessings by declaring a blessing a rightful manifestation of the Mandate of Heaven. But at the same time, he couldn’t, because he could never accept the idea of his authority being externally granted.

Ty Cooper

Probably will share multipliers and then stop after the huge disparity. Then one on one talk with Jake and the SS.

Ty Cooper

I am very curious how Jake is going to progress with all the soul stuff! Poisons, visualization of soulshape, attacks, origins, ..... all the possibilities. He can be the blight or rebirth for a soul. Love it.

Ty Cooper

Plus Mark doesn't self perpetuate. It builds because most of what Jake does involves his arcane affinity and through all that builds the charge.

Jonathon Corralejo Levotch

There was a lot of bonuses for reaching certain levels within the dungeon without losing a life

Ty Cooper

She would probably be pretty wicked. She might be closer to beast in the levels to start higher

Jonathon Corralejo Levotch

He died before a lot before reaching Valdemar. Jake only died once to the risen guy.

Titaniumtac

how can you get to Valdemar and only get a 10% ?

Peter Smith

I would assume that the difference between the two is that the mark doesnt have a strong emption to it.

Stephen Heng

The gang is almost all back together. I wonder if they will share stories of their dungeons or not…..

Abbots Foley

The ability to visualize soulscapes is a very powerful tool, with many possible applications. I’m curious how it could evolve!

Isley

good chappie

Bent Sommer

My guesses: Dina 75% - colloseum 10% - test of character 20% - Labyrinth 15% - Architekt 15% - Endless journey 15% King 65% - colloseum 20% - test of chararcter 15% - Labyrinth 15% - Architekt 5% - endless journey 10%

I think she'd be like Sylphie and start out at a higher level, so level 1 wouldn't be her test anyway.

Bent Sommer

My guess is 75%

Daniel

Isn't Mark basically a curse? He can apply it from a distance and it builds over time slowly growing to deal more damage until he finally pops the ability and it blows up from the inside. Maybe the only thing that makes it not a curse is that it isn't independent. I could see god-Jake using the mark to mark all the gods he doesn't like and waiting for it to build infinitely until they simply die.

Mat

I expect the King to be lower matching Sylphie and Dina to either match or surpass SS.

Govir Drauka

Fair enough, and makes complete sense. I forgot that the factions had presences in Nevermore. We’ve been in the challenge dungeons for a bit. :) Might read better all at once instead of a chapter a day.

NSaaby

death by a thousand spores

KenTX325

Wouldn’t it be funny if Dina had a good score? What is a level 1 dryad like?

ReadingObsessed

Hey, hey. Pretty good 👍

Nick

It's the Order's compound on this floor

Govir Drauka

“Jake awoke back in the Order” This feels wrong. My gut immediately thinks the Order of the Malefic Viper. Is this a mistake, or is the place they’re staying in Nevermore also called “the Order”?

Justin saldana

It's because he only had a 3 lives left just getting to umbra and no life's Left getting to the end. He won but he struggled greatly. Remember his stats are low and he doesn't have that many % muti. Think about it like this Jake won using only kicks till the soul fist dude. Shit his 1st death wasn't till champion round and that was fluke because he didn't prepared armor or anything else. Remember his lvl 0 was weak and he was still old.

joel southard

Nice thank you for the chapter

Seiryus

15% is probably for putting up an actual fight against Valdemar without getting his recognition. SS didn't get to do that as he was in his last life and suffering from backlash.

JJB4345_80_815

If the Sword Saint further modifies his Transcendent Skill, maybe he can slide between whatever age he feels like a la Valdemar's fighting spirit? OR he can be Jake's and Eron's guinea pig for their attempt at giving Mortals immortality???

Ty Cooper

I think he is just comfortable with himself and his soul reflects that is why his looks don't change unless his transcendent kicks in. The coliseum rocked that feeling though. I think he will start utilizing time magic more but not to change his appearance.

forgetfulposum

"Jake opened his days" -> opened his eyes

@zogarth I usually don't comment, but i read the chapter like 15mina go and couldnt stop thinking about it. The 10% in the collosseum of Mortals for the sword saint does not make sense at all. Jake got 25% for beating valdemar, Ellhakan got 20% for reaching Valdemars recognition, so for the sword saint to get 10% for reaching valdemar is illogical. He should get 15% at least. Otherwise for what kind of achievement would you get 15%? Other performances that got 10% were jake fucking around a bit in the test of character. I'm sorry but beating all the champions including umbra the right hand guy of the risen is not a 10% worthy performance it is at least a strong 15%. I mean how many people competing in Nevermore could actually beat all of the champions ?? Is it even a hundred If there is something which so few people should be able to do i feel like that should get at least 15%(i actually originally thought the sword saint would get 20% there). Not getting 20% is fine if the requirement is getting valdemars recognition. But not even 15% is utterly ridicoulus. Also the difference between 75% and 70% final score shouldnt change the story much.

Ty Cooper

Thanks for the details on SS's % bonus. I am curious about how the king and Dina %s turn out. Do you think the king or Dina beat the SS % wise?

JJB4345_80_815

I would like it if Jake would also use his high perception stat to help him see Karmic threads. I know that Jake in the Endless Journey Challenge Dungeon said that learning Karmic magic would be counterproductive for his Path, BUT I do think that not seeing Karmic threads is a blindspot for him. Just basing this on the brief snippet that we had of William roaming Ell'hakan's world about 51 chapters ago (released yesterday on Royal Road), William saw how twisted the Karmic threads were on Nahoom (Ell'hakan's world). I think that if Jake saw Karmic threads twisting and warping around him that it might help him to combat Ell'hakan's manipulation better. 🤷 What I'm trying to say is that I don't want him to be a Karmic mage, just be Karmic perceptive. Perception is the best stat.

JJB4345_80_815

I like it! Using his affinity to speed up his recognition and response time, but he could also use it to create a time domain where his opponent's recognition and responses are slowed down as well. I think Aeon Clock himself had created time bubbles where his opponents pre-godhood were AGED to death. Scary!

JJ Bb

"Jake stacked, dealing more damage to higher-leveled foes [...]" "[...] the Sword Saint stacked skills and effects [...]" Jake stacked what?

Justin Buro

"His brittle bones did so he took more damage, while his speed was slow, and especially his striking power was negatively" is a Trainwreck of a sentence in dire need of rewriting.

JJB4345_80_815

Friendly possible edit: "His brittle bones did, so he took more damage," It sounded to me at least that a word that was meant to be inserted but wasn't? Or I could just not be understanding it correctly...

Athena

tftc :) "His brittle bones did so he took more damage," -> "His bones were brittle so he took more damage," "to beat Umbral," -> "to beat Umbra," "you have never truly dove into," -> "you never truly dove into,"

JJB4345_80_815

Yes, thank you for the chappy, Zogarth!

JJB4345_80_815

Yeah, I had thought that he had gotten a slightly lower score so I'm glad that I was proven wrong.

Hodge Wasson

There's the whole psuedo-cliche of old masters, who are not as strong or fast as their younger contemporaries, whooping everyone through pure technique and ability to understand/predict their opponents. I could easily see a power up for the SS playing into that and the realization that he's been using his stats/skills as a crutch. Another interesting possibility is that by leaning into his time affinity he can further lean into the stereotype of the old master who knows what you're going to do before you do... in this case through seeing glimpses of the future while fighting.

Skyler Brown

the old man compering himself to the growth of sylphie when she hasn't even technically reached her "starting" level yet

Cameron Yourell

Thanks for the chapter. I like Jake's progression into soul related skills. It seems like an evolution into the b rank with his origin traits may provide a good evolution path for the hunter.

Iskar’s back! I do like their combined old man energy. Regarding SS’s body, I always assumed it was a choice for him not to evolve his body to a youthful one during his grade evolutions. Was it not? If it wasn’t, that poor bloke. Having to spend billions of years as an elderly looking man wouldn’t be enjoyable. But I’m guessing you’re setting something up with the time affinity magic direction. Great chapter as always, thanks!

Frederik

I hoped he would get close at least like 80-90 but alas it wasnt meant to be

kingofshibainu

I like the upgrade and new area of focus for SS! As for "seeing the soulshape" effect - I am going to guess that this may increase the range of his "Primal Gaze of the Apex Hunter" skill and make that more effective. If he can use that on marked targets beyond normal visual range or out of sight, that's actually pretty scary and useful.

Invictus Red

Slyphie is referred to as "he" twice

even if he knew peace would be short-lived had It been a realistic setting. -> it shouldn't be capitalized He feared his Path becoming murky again if he tried to [diversity] himself too much… -> diversify

Naotsugu97

TFTC!

jb qspam

Nice to see Sword Saint actually was 70%. Significant, even though he didn’t match Cheeto.

Burkes

Quite a few typos in this one, i suggest rereading it and fixing.
