Chapter 875 - Nevermore: Leaderboards
🕑 Added 2024-03-20 12:11:35 +0000 UTCLights danced in the sky as the music kept playing while the All-God Legion, better known as Minaga, walked down a pair of invisible stairs right above the two blank Leaderboards. He easily got the attention of everyone, and Viridia had to admit he was perhaps the best creature in the multiverse to do something like this… he was both a mortal, making his aura not overwhelming, and a divine being that could stand alongside the pinnacle all on his own. This offered him the possibility of absolute confidence.
“Welcome, welcome, welcome! What a great day for all of you to show up and all just to come and see little me!?” Minaga’s voice was projected all throughout Nevermore City, reaching not just the square.
“Oh wait, I read that wrong… you’re here for the Leaderboards, eh?” the Unique Lifeform joked around, not a single person present letting out the slightest laugh.
“Alright, alright, tough crowd, everyone’s so freaking serious, so let’s just stop messing around and get right to it! The great Leaderboards reveal! Okay, I lied; we won’t get right to it. One small intermission first, and I need to make a few clarifications, and as a preamble, I will share some stats!” Minaga said as he summoned a floating screen above himself. “Firstly, I can happily announce the death rate for this year’s Leaderboards-competition groups was 10.3% below the expected amount! That means only about 9.4 out of every 100 Nevermore Attendees competing on the Leaderboards ended up dying, compared to 10.1 out of every 100 last era.”
Viridia looked up at the screen and saw the stats that represented millions of dead at the very least. But it also meant that more than ten times the number of dead had come out of Nevermore, now more powerful than before and with a brighter future ahead of them. She also knew that the members of the Order tended to survive far more than the average due to their far higher average power level.
“The Nevermore Points achieved by the average group is also 3.6% higher than the last era, sitting at a whopping 42.214! Pretty good if I say so myself, and you can all be proud for fostering another great generation… especially now that we’re getting to the juicy part.”
Minaga smiled even more brightly as he dispelled the prior screen and showed a new one. It was just a single number, but Viridia instantly understood what it meant. That’s… impressive.
“10.5%. That’s how many more Nevermore Points the average in the top 1 percentile gained this time around compared to the last era. To clarify, this is the second biggest jump between two eras ever seen, and compared to last time, there is no explanation besides one simple fact: even the average talent of this era vastly surpasses any we’ve ever seen prior.”
For the first time, there was an actual crowd reaction as claps were heard. Viridia also joined in, along with the other S-grades around her. It was an applause for the next generation and what she believed was an outstanding performance. A generation the Chosen of the Order was a representative member of.
“Now, at the very tippidy top we will soon see on the Leaderboards, the disparity is a bit harder to find, showing that those at the Pinnacle Tier, even in prior eras, are still not to be taken lightly. But, fret not, the young talents are a little bit better, but within the margin of error,” Minaga continued once the applause had fully died down, as Viridia heard some low discussion all around.
To see the average rise was a good sign.. but to see the top shift wasn’t, especially not after the last era. Yip of Yore had been an outlier who had been praised for surpassing all prior eras, and what he had grown into could only be described as a problem for many divine factions. The many factions had also long learned that many top geniuses would be very difficult to control unless they had an existing connection to a top faction.
Those from the new universe naturally didn’t have any pre-existing connections, making them far more unpredictable. So, while seeing the average grow was good, many hoped to not see the top spot once more be taken by someone from the new universe… something that would be difficult to achieve, seeing as quite a few of the top seeds were from the new universe.
“The following clarification is mainly for those who haven’t really been paying attention to how the Leaderboards work… but the Leaderboards have naturally been open for quite a while; we just decided not to show them. In fact, they’ve been open for about a year, but we have naturally kept them hidden, as honestly, quite a few of you are utterly insufferable when it comes to wanting to show off. You are so desperate to have names from your factions shown on a list that is shifting every hour that it’s honestly kind of sad. Seriously, how many people have been forced to cut their Nevermore journeys short halfway through for some insecure Holy Church, Risen Altmar Empire, or whatever, to use their lost futures as a brief marketing stunt? Anyway, so, yeah, to stop this pathetic display, we chose to hide the Leaderboards till now, when the rankings are at least semi-stable, and I am certain no one has anything against that, right? We allow people to at least see the Universe Leaderboard a bit in the beginning for you bastards to do your scouting or whatever, and even that’s too much, in my opinion…”
Viridia stood and stared blankly as the entire square was silent after the Unique Lifeform’s rant. She couldn’t help but look over, and she saw a Cardinal from the Holy Church clench his staff tight, holding in his anger after the All-God Legion effectively insulted the entire Holy Church and even the Holy Mother herself. It wouldn’t be an understatement to say Minaga had just insulted half of the peak factions with a single rant… and Viridia knew that out of nearly anyone in the multiverse, Minaga was perhaps the only one who could do just that without ever suffering any repercussions.
“Ah, I really needed to get that off my chest, now to get back into it. So, as I said, the Leaderboards have been open for a while, and the listing has sure shifted a lot. For the Era Leaderboard alone, the top 100 has had a total of 351 names on it, quite a few more than usual. As for the top 10, we have had a total of 21 names there. Again, this is for the Era Leaderboard… but we naturally aren’t going to address that first. Instead, let’s keep it a bit more local and discuss the far more volatile Universe Leaderboard.”
Having changed the topic away from insulting peak factions, Minaga shared some more stats. Waving his hand one more time, another screen appeared.
“I call this Leaderboard more volatile because it’s been quite the shuffle! People getting high spots only to be bonked down from the top 50 to below the top 100 within a day happened more than once! The higher average has resulted in far more than usual reaching the minimum Nevermore Points required for Pinnacle Tier to qualify them to even appear on the top 100. This has resulted in a whole new record of the most names ever appearing in not only the top 100 but even the top 10 of the Universe Leaderboards! An all-time record, too!”
The screen floating above Minaga began to be filled with the stats of the Universe Leaderboard. Stats that made Viridia and many others raise an eyebrow.
“1084 have had their name appear in the top 100, with a whopping 76 in the top 10 at some point! That’s a lot of people getting some sweet, sweet titles! However… there have only ever been three names at the very top. Two of which now still dominate the Leaderboards. Yes, Leaderboards, plural.”
This was the first real hint about the actual people on the Leaderboards. No hints as to who they were, just that they were from the ninety-third universe, which instantly made Viridia think that the Chosen of the Malefic One had to be among these two. He had to be.
“Now, for some more interesting miscellaneous stats regarding the Challenge Dungeons and the thought process behind their designs…” Minaga began before smirking and stopping himself. “Relax, I’m just messing with you all. I guess it’s time to get to the real meat of this entire thing.”
With a snap, the screen with stats disappeared as Minaga paced back and forth up in the air.
“Some of you keen-eyed ones may have realized by now I am just dragging time out because I am waiting for something to happen. Or maybe you didn’t realize anything and just assumed I like to ramble on, something you would be entirely correct on, but in this instance, I am also dragging out time purposefully, as we quite frankly started this entire thing at least a few minutes too early. You see, for suspense, we have delayed some arrivals of those who had already finished Nevermore, and we had to make sure everyone was done for maximum dramatic effect to put on a good show and all that. Also, relax; their order of completion is still intact; we just delayed them teleporting to Nevermore City. With all that said… may the young talents descend!”
With these words, space began to move as Viridia felt the energy of the Wyrmgod himself at play. All around the huge central square, figures began to appear in rapid succession, either on the stands or on top of the many buildings belonging to top factions.
Viridia quickly looked around, and on one of the buildings, she saw the swordsman who had entered with the Viper’s Chosen appear, standing among followers of Aeon Clok. On another platform with followers of Stormild, she saw the hawk, and on a third belonging to the Pantheon of Life, the dryad. Finally, on their very own platform, a figure appeared, and Viridia was ready to bow as she saw it was not the Chosen but instead the Unique Lifeform who appeared.
She didn’t have time to say anything to this Unique life form before Minaga spoke once more.
“And now for the grand reveal… of one of the Leaderboards!”
Finally, the time had come. Space itself warped around the Universe Leaderboard as words began to appear on it line-by-line before soon showing the top ten. At the same time, beams of white light descended from above, highlighting ten figures who were all standing spread around the square. It didn’t take long to realize who was highlighted… it was naturally the ten top performers… and Viridia saw a real smug Cardinal over at the Holy Church building as two beams had descended on top of them. This light began to change up in the air as projections of these ten figures appeared, allowing all to see them.
Ignoring everything else, Viridia finally gazed upon the Universe Leaderboard… and it didn’t look right. It didn’t look right at all.
“Two did better than anyone else… please join me in applauding the performances of our runner-up, Wintermaul, along with our top dog: Ell’Hakan, Yip of Yore’s Chosen!”
Viridia just stared at the Leaderboard… as things truly didn’t make sense. Where is he?

Silence filled the entire square as everyone looked as two of the large projections in the air were highlighed more than the others. It was the two atop the Leaderboard, and soon, celebration erupted from several places, and nearly everyone did as Minaga said and gave a round of applause… except for those from the Order.
Viridia looked up and saw the figure of Yip’s Chosen projected. He had a light smile on his face, not exactly looking smug, but not like his performance had come as a surprise either. He looked like someone who had just been told something he found rather obvious as he bowed a few times. Yet Viridia also saw something else… doubt and a bit of confusion that seemed to mirror her own.
The other highlighted figure was the one called Wintermaul. It was an ice elemental of some form, looking a bit like a mix between a yeti and a bear, but made entirely of ice. To see an elemental do so well was rare… which had to mean this particular elemental was truly outstanding.
Still… things were wrong, and as everyone else was celebrating and Minaga gave them time and space to do so, Viridia turned to the Unique Lifeform that had been part of the Chosen’s party, throwing him a questioning gaze. One he instantly understood.
“I must say, I am pleasantly surprised to at least find myself in the top 100… and to see the small planet I now call home have not just one, but for multiple individuals to be in the top ten…” the Fallen King said. “To see the mechanic with relations to the void outperforming the swordsman does surprise me a smidgen, though. Alas, I can only say it’s his fortune.”
Frowing, Viridia looked at the Unique Lifeform. “What happened in there? The Chosen…”
“Allow me to make a prediction… my fellow Unique Lifeform by the name of Minaga has been putting on an entire show, which was part of the reason I was held in a white void for a few minutes before I was teleported here.”
“The All-God Legion is in charge of this Leaderboards reveal,” Viridia nodded.
“Then it makes sense. From all I have learned about Minaga, he is a performer who enjoys making drama and putting on a show more than anything. So do not worry quite yet, and just enjoy the show as the suspense builds, and we await the grand reveal,” the Fallen King said.
Viridia instantly realized what the Unique Lifeform was trying to say as she breathed a sigh of relief, and did as he said as they waited for Minaga to continue. A few minutes passed as the celebrations died down, and the congratulations of the top ten came to an end. Until the factions would host larger celebrations at a later time, that is.
“Once more, I want to congratulate all those who placed in the top 10 from the ninety-third universe. You all have done pretty well for yourselves, considering you’ve only been part of the multiverse for just a short amount of time… but what’s perhaps even more impressive is that we still find four names from the Universe Leaderboard also present on the era one! Behold, our top ten of this Era… and the Era’s Pinnacle!”
Space once more moved as the second Leaderboard was revealed, and ten figures were highlighted again as projects appeared; four of these highlights repeated. Along with the highlight of the Era’s Pinnacle… which had gone to the one most people had expected to see there and the top seed according to all the gambling houses.

Two beams once more highlighted the smug Holy Church, showing that they had impressively maintained two spots in the top ten. Only one of them was a repeat, as someone Viridia recognized as the Saintess who had been part of Ell’Hakan’s group was also highlighted.
The newcomers were a demon prince who had made some waves recently, currently shown standing with an arrogant sneer as he gazed toward where Ell’Hakan was standing. Next up was a princess of the Regalflight – the golden dragons – who nearly always had members toward the top due to the extremely high average power of those who managed to become golden dragons. She was standing with a neutral look in her humanoid form, but no matter what, she couldn’t hide her innate pride.
Azal, the Ghost King, was also an expected figure to see. The same was true for the Disciple of the Heartsoul Daolord, who was a young girl looking no older than someone who had barely entered adulthood. Then there was Grimclaw Noxmane, a wolf from the United Tribes, who looked like a, well, large wolf.
The creature known as Lopas did strike Viridia as an odd one. This Lopas had appeared on both the Universe Leaderboard and the seventh spot of the Era Leaderboard, gaining the creature quite a bit of attention… which was why it was surprising to see the sleeping sloth-like creature’s projection clearly sleeping in mid-air.
All of these top performers got a lot of praise, and even if the Church had two in the top 10, there was no doubt who had the most attention of everyone. Ell’Hakan had repeated the feat of his Patron and claimed the very top spot, proving himself the Era’s Pinnacle. Viridia clenched her fists as she threw a glance toward the Fallen King, who looked unbothered, just waiting.
“Truly an impressive display by everyone, and I will say… even if you do not find your name on the top 10, do not be discouraged. Top 100, or even top 1000, is also a feat to celebrate. Even if you don’t find yourselves on any Leaderboards, do not for a second believe this is an evaluation of your entire Path and your potential. To many of you, this will be but a slight blip in your existence and hopefully just a pleasant memory that may or may not have rewarded a sweet title. This is also a warning to the ones who did place well on the Leaderboards to not relax simply because you did well in one World Wonder. This is just a single step on your journey.”
The words of the Unique Lifeform were sobering and encouraging. It was likely something many of those who had either done better or worse than expected needed to hear. Putting too much stock in Nevermore wasn’t wise, after all. Viridia herself hadn’t done that well back in Nevermore, partly because of her Path as a witch not being the best for the World Wonder, yet out of her entire party, she was the only one who ever even reached A-grade.
After Minaga allowed the words to sink in a bit, he spoke once more.
“Just one more thing before we all go our different ways… I’m going to tell you all a bit about a personal grievance of mine. Trust me, It’ll be relevant,” Minaga said as he once more began to pace back and forth. “I’ve been working with the Wyrmgod for quite a few eras now, working on floors, consulting on different projects, working on Challenge Dungeons… with my mainstay creation naturally being my labyrinth. Both the floors and the Challenge Dungeon.”
The ramble seemed entirely irrelevant to everything else that was going on, yet as the All-God Legion began to talk, Viridia saw the Fallen King slump and let out an audible sigh as he let her know his thoughts.
“Here we go again…”
“I worked hard on this, and I try to make them pretty fair so people can’t cheat, yet every single era, there are some individuals who find new ways to “break” stuff, if you will. This is fine. It gives me data to fix the error for the next iteration. Except this time around, this bastard appeared who exploited the hell out of both my labyrinths without a single trace of shame, doing so in a fashion that I can’t even fix for the next era. He even went as far as to set an all-time record in my Challenge Dungeon, and not even by a little, but by so much I felt like he did it only out of spite.”
Viridia frowned as the Unique Lifeform gave her a small nod. A nod that made her smile as the Unique Lifeform continued.
“And wouldn’t you know it… that very same bastard is just about to come out of our precious World Wonder in… three… two… one…”
A beam of light descended right beside Viridia as she felt space warp… and a masked figure appeared as the Leaderboards all shifted in real time.

I think it's purposeful. It could be both even. The King could be doing it, or Minaga could be doing it as a little bit of extra setup. Anyone with the sense's to see who he's nodding at realises who's being talked about. In the same vein, Jake absolutely did it, in part, to spite him. And the King surely knows this, so this could be him going "Yup, that's Jake"

Friendly edit: third to last paragraph, it’s not clear which unique Lifeform gives Viridia a nod - the king or Minaga. She’s been looking at both. So I suggest replacing the title with a name to clarify this. Because I could see either one giving her a conspiratorial nod. Fun chapter! I’m excited for the next!

I can understand why some people might be frustrated since in this economy money is a little tight. But let's get one thing clear. This story belongs to Zog. It is his creation and he will do with it what he pleases. He doesn't owe you really anything but to continue to produce on the schedule HE determines. Your actions would be like going to a fine dining restaurant ordering a 5+ course meal and then complaining to the chef directly that they were taking too long for each of your courses and you keep sending them back. You CHOSE to go to that restaurant and order that menu. Sit back shut up and enjoy. Everyone else's meals are now getting delayed because you want to constantly complain. Do you know thats the fastest way to kill creativity is to constantly complain. If you don't like the pace leave for a month or two and come back then you'll have all the chapters to read in succession.

I really doubt it's Lilian. It's probably the stag that Jake said reminded him of the one he faced in the tutorial dungeon. There was a chapter where Karroch reminisced the events of the tutorial dungeon and the stag was based on a creature he tamed, so it's likely that beast became a god and this stag is a descendant or something. It will be interesting to see if they have any sort of interaction in the future though, since Lilian did gain a class that's similar to that of the stag.

Nah it’s fine to respect him for his prowess and be annoyed with him for being the opponent. That’s pretty much how the Viper seems to feel. Yip’s actions are very in line with how gods fight & gain power. If it wasn’t Yip, Vilas would’ve needed to find another god to use to power up. Vilas did what Yip did (V might’ve been worse) to that Brimstone god anyway. It’s not personal, it’s just powering up.

At this point the hate is getting too much. Overall, when this is released on Kindle. The whole nevermore arc will probably be put into one book. I would say release all five chapters every Friday or Monday. Or honestly at the beginning of the month. I myself was also getting annoyed, but the amount of hate I think is going too far. The author could always stop releasing as many chapters. He could milk this Patreon, and reduce it to three chapters a week and people would still pay for that shit. If you find yourself getting annoyed with the pacing and cliffhangers, then just wait a month or two or just wait for the book release if you can’t handle just waiting the next day for the next chapter or waiting over the weekend. Actual crybabies.

Uknown percentage does make sense given that he also outperformed Arnold whose know multipliers are at 100% matching Azal yet he should have more points up to floor 70. The twist i expected from Minaga is Jake at 2nd place only for Minaga to have an oops moment bumping him to 1st.

I was with you guys during the 80th floor. Its details didn't really matter and you could easily shorten the fight by a couple chapters. The chapters after the fight have been fin, though. There has been some fluff like the statistics given by Minaga before the top 10 reveal, but even those give some context. I don't really know how people expect the end of NM should happen. Did people really expect the leaderboards and the team's placement to be revealed the very next chapter after the fight eith the THO? With no time to set the scene, the leaderboards reveal would have been lifeless and unsatisfying. Blame the rest of the arc, not the last few chapters.

I did take the points into account. Getting a 20% Achievement in the Challenge Dungeons means you got a minimum of 80k points in the dungeon. So even though Azal only got 15% more overall, you can assume that's worth 80k extra overall in the absolute best case scenario. For another example; EH got 95% and Jake 105%. We know EH got 1 grand Achievement. So we could assume Jake got somewhere between 20k-60k points more than EH with a 10% diff.

From what we saw of the Dark Witch Achievement, these bonuses are one given when you do something that is thought to be improbable. In other words, Records that haven't been achieved before. So while I'm not against Casper figuring some out. They shouldn't be something he could track like the regular bonus objectives, since the achievements are not in the framework but by going above and beyond what the original objectives required. But, I agree, we just don't know. However, since we got multiple updates on Team Azal, on how he performed and his team, from the information on hand its a bit disjointed to see his performance when compared to SS and Dina. It of would been just a short sentence saying they got 2-3 bonus percent achievements. If we get that in an upcoming pov, that would be fine also. I'm not confused by any other participant in the top 10, because we had no information on them. It's just the fact we got so much on Team Azal, that it seems a bit muddled.

Yea, I won't mind if we get a pov saying just that. Unknown percentage gains is the most likely answer. I am biased towards team Jake/ team Primordial/ team Earth, so I am hoping Minaga has another twist about the percentage yet to be added. And that the current leaderboards are just raw points focused on the Challenge Dungeon solo portion, since they provide the biggest showcase amongst base points. Then the rankings shift again when adding percentages. That would mostly affect 4-10 on the Era leaderboards at least.

Mate I feel the frustration too, but also, think about it. The author is churning out 15,000 words a week, every week, for a single story. That’s frankly what initially impressed me the most about this project, as a casual writer. Writer’s block is a thing, needing time to plan is a thing, all while keeping track of thousands of plot points. It’s impossible for a single writer to do so without adding a bunch of filler content. So unless you’d prefer to have just 1 or 2 chapters a week of plot relevant content, I don’t think lashing out like this is the way to go.

The Minaga clone in his dungeon can't exist outside of the dungeon in the 93rd era until the 93rd era is opened up to all. Thus, if he's to join the group then the group must congregate in his dungeon in order to include Minaga. That would be a hilarious usage of Minaga's dungeon! I can even see Minaga complaining about Jake's lack of usage of such a great item and how it only gets used for a support group...

Completely agree Micah, I doubt Azal beating SS base on points and multiplier we got. Only possibility to cover the 15% multiplier gap someway outside of the stated (SS on final 115% and Azal on 100% known) is if they managed to get the 5% Jake teams got before floor 70 and 5% for they efforts on floor 80 with his points being on the upper end of the percentage multiplier he got for CD or in one challenge dungeon he had a 25% with tones of points like way above the 100k and also he growth in levels was just massive making up for the variance

Yip is certainly powerful enough to gain the attention of a Primordial, but I doubt it. If he were, Vilas would have mentioned it either to Jake or referenced it in one of his convos with his fellow Primordials now. It’s always interesting to think of who each god’s Patrons were though. I don’t think the author has mentioned many, except when talking about gods who stayed within their Patrons’ factions.

Don't forget about the difference in Nevermore points awarded in those Challenge Dungeons, it's not just the multiplier. Remember, the better the Grand Achievement, the more Nevermore points awarded as well as the better multiplier. Azal earning 85% in the Challenge Dungeons ALSO earned more Nevermore points before the multiplier is counted. Granted, I think that Azal's group earned a 5% Grand Achievement on a floor or two, but those Challenge Dungeons didn't just award multipliers only.

When the writing is this good it makes any amount of wait unbearable. Granted, I much prefer a single day compared to the wait of George RR Martin's "The Winds of Winter" (a true Never More Of situation) or the next installment of David Weber's Safehold series. Still, with great writing comes great gnashing of teeth for the next fix. Cliffhangers are partially the result of our minds knowing that the next great thing is hiding behind the ravages of time and the desire for that thing to be revealed NOW, not in the nebulous future. What if I suffer a massive heart attack 5 minutes after submitting this comment? I will go to the great beyond/the void without ever experiencing the joy of tomorrow's chapter. (Hopefully I didn't plant a red flag just now. Pray for me!) That hypothetical (hopefully 🙏🙏🙏) is beyond both Zogarth's control and mine (well, current me anyway, past me should have laid off the cookies), yet I believe it shows how both Zogarth and fans can be annoyed with people whining about cliffhangers while also showing why it's okay for some REASONABLE griping about cliffhangers. Some people take their complaints WAY too far. No one knows what tomorrow may bring and when excellent writing is witnessed it's okay to desire more. Just keep in mind that the author is not beholden to one's wishes. The author knows better than the reader.

We don't know that Casper didn't figure out other grand achievements with his dungeon engineering expertise that Jake's team didn't get. Azal could have more percentages than we realize. Same with Cheeto; his bloodline might have given his team lots of percentages for beating floors without killing. We just don't know.

Tbf, Arnold's team pretty much matched team Jake up to floor 70 at least. And if it continued, it's plausible. With Azal, @ 100%, he should need about 125k more points than Dina to beat her. Which I don't perceive he could of possibly got. My estimate puts him around 80k more than her best case scenario, and he would still need 10% extra percent to beat her. Even if Azal got 88k more points and 105%, he would barely be above SS and below Dina. I think Azal had the math until floor 80 when team Jake got the extra 10% and bonus 30k plus other objectives

Well I do think Azal got more raw points than SS/Dina, not including percent. Considering the CD awards 20% when you cross over 80k, we can assume that's the maximum Azal got for having 15% more. Even if we're generous and say having Casper on his team netted him 50k more points, which is equivalent to an entire floor. That's 130k, which is about exactly what you would need to beat 15% deficit and this greatly considering things in Azal's favor. But then you add the 3 boss events. Minaga: team Jake got 3k more Floor 75: team Jake probably got about 4k more Floor 80: team Jake probably got 5k more plus 30k for keeping everyone alive. 130k-42k = 88k more than Dina and this his best case scenario. He would need a 10% bonus from somewhere to close the gap and surpass Dina because we know she got 1.918mil raw points.

Dina / Sword Saint: 25% Minaga + 5% Witch + 5% time skip + 70% CD + 10% THO Azal: 15% Minaga + ?% floors + 85% CD + 0% THO Grand Achievements during the normal floors seem very rare. The 5% for the witch was a special GA that was only possible, because Jake is abnormal and the others were for powered up boss fights on special floors. We don't know how they got the 5% during the time skip, but a boss fight seems the most likely. It just doesn't seem likely that they missed many Grand Achievements. That leaves Dina and the Sword Saint with a higher mulitplier than Azal. And since the team did really well on all floors (e.g. floor record on after floor 70), team Azal shouldn't be able to get more flat points. Scores don't really add up, if you think about it. This doesn't break the story for me and I'm fine, if it's not changed or adressed, but I wanted to discuss it nonetheless.

He also missed out on the 30k from floor 80; where as Dina and SS got the 30k. It's very unlikely Azal best them by sheer points, when including percent that is.

Tbf, Zogarth doesn't have to go back and fix Azal, he could easily slip it in thru an upcoming pov where either Azal or Casper say they got 2-3 bonus 5% from the climb. And that would kind of close the door mathematically. But I do agree, with what information we've been given about Team Azal and that he only got 85% and 15%, his placement seems off compared to SS and Dina. Whom should have more percentage as things stand and cut into Azal's point lead to be well within 15% to overtake him. The fact that Minaga is making a show, could also mean that he hasn't added the percentages yet. This while being low chance, could be the "cherry on top" of his performance while Jake is merely the toppings (although, the Church and Undead, might say "insult to injury", lol). It might seem like a dick move on Minaga's part at first. But actually, it shows off that the people on the current Leaderboards did really well on the Challenge Dungeons but not in the teams portion. This extrapolates well, because even when not counting the percentages, you get TON of Nevermore points from the Challenge Dungeons compared to the floors, ofc this is when you perform well. When you then add the percentages, they wouldn't move that much, only individuals who performed good in the Challenge Dungeons like 70+% AND also, got 40%+ from the teams portion would surpass them. Ofc, that's a lot of hopium and copium. But it could be why Azal, is currently placed so high atm, because this is RAW Nevermore points without percent bonus. Edit: I actually hope the above is reality; because while the Saintess from the Holy Chruch (Minaga's team) is going to switch to a higher place, it also means SS, Dina and even Arnold has a shot to be top 10 Era if it turns out true about withholding percent bonus.

So I just read the chapter a second time to enjoy it. And it's def one of my fave chapters. Minaga as a character is just awesome. And to the people complaining about another cliff...doesn't the fact that you feel it as a cliff just mean that your enjoying the story so much you don't want to stop? I know that's how I feel about them. Any time I go a few chapters in any patreon book with that feeling of a cliff means I'm getting bored. @Jeff I found the expansion to be for several sections meaningless and bereft of added entertainment thus having only enjoyed roughly 30-40% of the content, something that I am clearly not alone in. Hopefully it flows better in novel format though even there I think this build-up is too long. I hope you enjoy your class but I would take advice with a pinch of salt as not every solution fit every format or style. Most of all I would not try to browbeat a random commenter with prestige in a low prestige genre ;) @walterwhite I agree on the overall view. I am simply disappointed in said chapter as I would likely skim it even in a novel. There were several interesting viewpoints but I feel several were poorly executed tropes.

I agree with you. I probably should just do as you said and disable the notifications. On average each of these chapters probably only actually takes me maybe five minutes to read. I admit I supported for far less altruistic reasons. I finished the latest audiobook and then read through the free stuff maybe a day or two later on my day off, then needed more so came and burned through the patreon material within the next day. I can't think of a better compliment to an artist as I would consider Zogarth to be than people feeling a need instead of just desire to read his work. I definitely feel the work is overall great

I personally was fine with the Colosseum. I understood the purpose of those chapters. It is fine for that to be the way you read stories but it isn't the way I experience them. To me this is a whole different kettle of fish. I recognize not everyone feels that way and I can respect that. It would possibly be fine if it was already done. I might be ok with that and if it was in a format where I could read it or listen as is the norm for me. Honestly though I would probably still be skimming it. That is ok in my outlook. Was fun to see the stats--but there needed to be an explanation about how you can compare points between different Nevermore eras, since the challenges are entirely different. Something like: "To be able to compare points across different Eras, we have several standard constructs, representing a variety of skills and abilities, that run the dungeons repeatedly in each Era, prior to the start of the actual competition. Since we keep the constructs the same, we are able to adjust the challenges, and the points rewarded, such that, on average, the same performance will give the same points across multiple Eras." Also, 42,214 points seems pretty low for the average. I forget the points awarded for the earlier floors, but about how many floors should that be? It would have provided better context if the author had Minaga report the average number of floors completed as well.

Respectfully I disagree. For me at least I have basically skipped like the last three chapters. I have bought all the audiobooks up to this point and can only see myself and many others skipping until it gets to the actual moment. I love Zogarth's work, I wouldn't be here otherwise but in my opinion maybe one chapter of build up would be ok with perspective from others. This on the other hand does nothing positive, anything that encourages readers to just skim by isn't good.

It could be entirely possible that other teams got more points during the climb. If Zogarth hadn't put Jake and his team on such a high pedestal, I wouldn't question the ranking. But during all of NM, we get to hear time and time again how well the team is doing compared to others including the team of Casper and Azal. Honestly, when we take the talk of the gods and povs of others at face value Sword Sage and Dina should rank above everyone from earth and their respective team members - including Azal and Arnold. If the ranking stays as is, there needs to be some retconning in earlier chapters about the performance of these two at least.

Dina and SS got 70% from CD, 25% from Minaga, 10% from floor 80 and two 5% bonuses. So, maybe his team got two to three 5% bonuses elsewhere? Or did Azal just have that many more points to beat 15%!?

The last few weeks have been rough, just drawing out nevermore for no reason, but this chappy was 100% OK! It's an ACTUAL cliffhanger! Well set up storyline with not a lot of unnecessary fluff to pad the word count and it follows along nicely with M's character. We'll get the big reveal even if it's a bit predictable tomorrow and have a cool discussion between the primordials on Friday. I've been doubtful that Jake's gonna say more than two words to EH anyway, a big party might be thrown that he doesn't attend, he'll just brush everyone off to go do more Jake shit.

Look I’ve been very frustrated with how drawn out Nevermore is and some of the chapters that start on cliffhangers and don’t resolve them - but this is a great chapter with plenty of things set up. Some things that jump out at me: 1. Holy Church is one of the largest factions in the multiverse, and is hyped about having 2 folks in the top ten. Earth has at least 3 - maybe four if one of the monks (Immortal Faith?) is Eron - in the top 10 for the universe. 2. We learned about a few new top tier talents like the elemental that will be rivals for Jake after killing EH 3. We found out that all members of Jake’s party other than Dina got top 100 for the universe, and SS clearly got at least top 100 in the era too 4. I mean obviously Jake won, and Minaga did it in a way to troll both Jake (who didn’t want the hype) and EH (who absolutely wanted the hype) I’m also very excited to see Jake and Minaga banter like friends in front of a live studio audience.

How did Azal score this high? He is one of the other participants we know the most about. Against Minaga he got 15% and in the challenge dungeons 85%. On floor 80 they didn't have time to finish the boss, so he's missing out on those 10% and the 130,000 flat points. Even with the higher score in the challenge dungeons, he shouldn't be ahead of the Sword Saint and definitely not that close to the top.

Wow! Really didn’t expect Minaga to be so forthcoming with the rankings. His showmanship was to be expected. In fact, I thought he was rather tame here. There were no streamers, explosions, or an orchestral performance by the 3rd Universe All Minaga Symphony. (Honestly, I kinda got a Tom Ellis as Lucifer vibe from this particular Minaga.) Still, very fun. That being said, I still don’t expect to see Jake and his ranking tomorrow. More likely we’ll jump to some godly POV (my money’s on Villy and or Artemis), and maybe one of the Earthlings, before Jake shows up. So maybe tomorrow, maybe Friday.
