Tris Jack

Kinda wished he got scammed and was just stuck in an empty city for a few hours

vio

No, she's a God from the 2nd era

Grond (James)

I thought Umbra was a Primordial?

Ray Light

It doesn't

Dave

while you are entitled to take the time off, how will this affect billing?

Dave

that was the cost of a different skill

Daniel Brian

Jake is from a different universe. Not possible for them to be related, especially since Jake was born before the System.

Joshua Little

Have a good time off.

Pickled Rick

Oh Jake has activated the trap card played almost exclusively by the old, story time. Jake better strap in because the First Sage isn't going to give straight answers, he'll be telling stories about "back in his day!" Haha

MilkTheShark

Wouldn't it be more likely that the system holds onto the true soul and sorta (pardon my lack of useful terminology) "scrapes off some records and mixes them up into an item" and then feeds them to people with the chance they can get the bloodline or whatever?

Blaq Jesus

I hope you enjoy your time off. Best wishes to you and yours.

Daniel Brian

On the topic of why he begs Vilas to kill him, a few things come to mind: Is Vilas remembering it just the way he wants to? Like the Sage just said, people tend to warp their own memories over time, and this would have been prior to Vilas usurping the bloodline. Second, maybe the Sage needed to experience death in System to achieve his goal, whatever that goal really was, because becoming one with the system seems odd by itself, unless he was doing it so he could know everything the system does, since he has an OCD about knowing things. (I can relate, but I have my limits on understanding) Lastly, maybe it was all a ruse or misleading and he’s not really dead at all. (Sorry for the essay! lol)

Mat

Memory based will be a terrible idea for Jake due to his sphere of perception currently needing a filter not to be overwhelming. Imagine him remembering everything his perception touched all the time? That will be horrible. Also it will need to be passive all the time e.g. Holy Mother’s. I don’t see what he can offer as cost for such a skill.

Daniel Brian

Seems to me that the charges are dependent on the amount of time(s) it will take Jake to get the point of whatever its teaching.

Anthony Smith

Sage could have a transcendence to allow his memory to cross through time. Jake has a high unexplained affinity with time. Jake's bloodline concepts clearly have some roots in time. "Primal" I see as early stage or beginning instinct.

Daniel Brian

The notes on his awesome boots that told him, after a fashion, to save up 5 charges to meet with (presumably, and now definitely) the First Sage.

Asher Mack

My guess is that the truth is they’re code being run on a simulation in some omniversal neckbeard’s laptop and it’s his Super-Harvard final project

Asher Mack

Bloodline stuff aside, Jake easily has the raw talent and dedication required for a transcendence. And a pretty good one I would wager. If the first sage can get 4 by late C grade despite having a bloodline, Jake can get 1 at least I reckon.

Anthony Smith

If this is the first sage shortly after the integration, does that mean Jake met with the sage before Villy and any others Primordials. Unless this is like a parallel world simulation or dream simulation. The sages bloodline ability could possibly apply to the situation too.

Asher Mack

Bro.. what if Jake is the daddy of records?

Michael Ferguson

This is some good shit.

Naotani

Curious that the Sage doesn't know who Jake is. After reading about his curiosity and wish to know everything, my guess was that he somehow found information about Jake's bloodline from their prior meeting (through Path of the heretic Chosen) and hopes to get information about the Origin of the System with the help of Jake's bloodline.

Gurracreek

Nope it is Tom

Eiv

Help. What is the engraving in the shoes is again?

NovaZero

It's bloodline fuckery along with system fuckery. Like I said, levels of fuckery afoot. If a bloodline is the origin of a true soul then the bloodline of "Immortal Mind" being perfect recall, then having a record such as viewing of a memory amends a record and so opens it up for system fuckery too. Like... So much fuckery. Bloodlines are outside the system's purview? Fine. We have two bloodlines that deal in massive amounts of fuckery enabled further by the system fuckery! If everything is a record then the bloodline "Immortal Mind" is one massive API enabling just huge amounts of buggy stuff in need of amendment.

Jorge salazar

Is normal to smile and get goosebumps multiple times while reading this chapter or am I just a weirdo?

Mat

I am sure Greg bit you to it

Mat

5 uses for an biography interview

Chase Burton

Tftc!

brjenness

how long before Jake realizes Tom is the first sage?

Abhishek

Keeper of records. First sage.

Sloth

Same way it created a sim Jake with a bloodline. Same true soul, same bloodline. The only hole in the logic is that Villy has the bloodline now. Presumably, the system copies the bloodline, as it cannot access the true soul, and thus cannot take the bloodline. It’s been implied that bloodlines/transcendents aren’t actually outside system control, just that the system chooses not to control them. It wouldn’t surprise me if the system is capable of copying bloodlines. It would however be strange if the system can take them away from a true soul, as that breaks established rules.

Phoenixdrop

He doesn’t have gaps in his memory he just makes himself not imagine what could be below the ground what’s in the room he’s never been inside of literally everything actually there he remembers but he never saw what was in the places that are voids he didn’t forget he just doesn’t know

Jagswag 4

Not saying my theory is likely, but it is a fun one that makes sense to me.

brjenness

but...but... bloodlines are outside of system control...how can the system create a Sim sage with a bloodline? system fuckery, I guess?

Jagswag 4

The entirety of the real world internet was based on the "communications model" made by two people, and it grew from there to know hold the sum of all human knowledge. Just as the FS and Jake's bloodlines could be used to create a framework for the system. One part is used as the basis for a perfect memory, Villy has the FS bloodline and if they were somehow still connected, then the bloodline would have existed just as long as the system and been around for every skill ever made/used (Villy got the bloodline from the system?, so it could be pushed to say that the FS as an admin? Of the system could see everyone connected to the system) therefore it knows every skill ever because it has already seen it (this is farfetched but could be expanded upon throughout more of the story) and then the second part, Jake's bloodline would be used as the fuel for potential. The bloodline is not powerful because of Jake, but Jake is powerful because of the bloodline. The bloodlines whole shtick is that there is nothing above it or even equal to it, which implies that it is all powerful. Jake can only use a infinitely small portion of the bloodlines power. Therefore we have the capacity to remember everything ever and be able to grow with no ceiling.

JJB4345_80_815

Okay, 2 guys against the records collected by the system from countless gods and nearly infinite mortals over the course of 93 eras. Jake has only lived a brief moment in time in one era that contains billions of galaxies with trillions of other residents. The First Sage only lived in the 1st era on a single planet for again, a small snippet of time. No matter how powerful the First Sage is/was OR how powerful Jake will eventually become, their power will always be insufficient for the task. 2 ants are never going to be able to carry the trillions of other ants upon their backs. The system is SO far beyond the capabilities of their bloodlines (past and future) that the mere attempt would disintegrate them. Too many gods/mortals/bloodlines/Transcendents/History/Records/Realms/Universes/Eras/Dungeons/Minagas/Primordials/skills/paths/artifacts/Truesouls and countless other things that I'm forgetting about.

brjenness

random piece of info I had forgotten about and look forward to seeing...Sandie has a vespernat hive in his stomach.

DrSubterfuge

Oh hey bloodline shenanigans make a lot of sense. Similar also to how sim Jake could notice Jake watching him and it had a cascade effect through the simulation. The Sage's Records also live on through the boots and have had those records strengthened a lot over the grades. My guess is the most recent upgrade of the boots was when he became forbidden knowledge.

JJB4345_80_815

I am the terror that flaps in the night! (Darkwing Duck reference)

JJB4345_80_815

I'm quaking in utter terror over Friday's expected cliffhanger...

JJB4345_80_815

Ditto. The First Sage mystery has been my favorite part of The Primal Hunter.

JJB4345_80_815

And he did this as a medieval librarian? I'm kinda getting a "Lack of proper technology" vibe from this setting...

JJB4345_80_815

If I was Jake I'd be proclaiming pre-system achievements just to mess with him. "Back in 2017 I won my league's fantasy football championship. In May 2018 I came in second place for "Employee of the Month" at work. Do you wanna hear about all of my participation trophies I've earned?" Stuff like that...

JJB4345_80_815

The First Sage chapters are my personal favorites 😁

JJB4345_80_815

He created the system while having a desk job in a random medieval town? I think that he lacked the proper amount of spit, bailing wire and duct tape to construct such a behemoth...

JJB4345_80_815

Considering that we've just found out that the First Sage was a Librarian in some random medieval town, I think that you're right and it's a safe bet that he had nothing to do with creating the system. It really should be interesting finding out more about how he "interacts" with the system and if he's some sort of ghost in the machine.

Phasmatic7

Thankies

JJB4345_80_815

Adam. The First Sage's name should be Adam, the original keeper of Forbidden Knowledge. Last name in medieval times usually reflected one's profession OR the profession of one's parent I believe?

Jagswag 4

Where did I say he was going to do it right now? If this happened, the earliest it would happen would be when he is on the verge of Godhood. Also, as I said originally the records and memory portion of the system would fall under the First Sages bloodlines and Jake and his bloodline would be about giving the system the potential to grow and reach the apex. My theory is highly unlikely, but at least give actual reasons why it couldn't happen.

JJB4345_80_815

The only thing connecting all of the Primordials to the First Sage is Jake's boots, which showed Eversmile Karmic Ties to all of the Primordials. This is a mystery that hasn't been solved yet. He can't be the daddy of all Primordials, unless he got freaky with a snake and a stormcloud elemental and a tree and a bunch of other nonhuman beings of questionable sapience. The First Sage is known to have died on his home world that was sterilized by Villy. The First Sage being the father/teacher of all Primordials would require some very flexible story gymnastics. The mystery will most likely be solved another way.

JJB4345_80_815

Jake nearly offed himself by using his bloodline on Palate of the Malefic Viper and now you're proposing that he can use his bloodline on the entirety of the system incorporating the Records of everything that has occurred in 93 eras? Yeah, no. Hard pass for me.

JJB4345_80_815

Nope. He and Villy shared the same world. A world in which Villy cleansed of ALL life (even microbial I believe) before venturing forth into the wider universe. The only way Jake is a direct descendant is if before Villy went on a killing spree a descendant of the First Sage decided to leave the world behind. Unlikely, maybe not impossible though.

JJB4345_80_815

Cecilia, you're breaking my heart. You're shaking my confidence...

JJB4345_80_815

Thank you Jeff Moore! I had trouble conceptualizing that sentence and would not have understood it without the explanation. It went right over my head and I thought that the author made a mistake. I should have known better...

JJB4345_80_815

Villains don't typically beg someone to kill them. Also, he hasn't twirled his mustache once, so if he's a villain he really sucks at it. ;-)

Jeff McCulley

I think he’s about to find out an awful lot more about Records, and how they actually work. Which will naturally come with some benefits.

JJB4345_80_815

Yep! I wanna know why the system charged Jake 5 times for this one meeting. It'd be a hard pill to swallow if it's just for a meet and greet. Knowledge is power and I expect the First Sage to be holding onto some goodies.

Jeff McCulley

All people born before WWII would have called WWI “The Great War” or “The War To End All Wars”. No one would have called it WWI, because II hadn’t happened yet. Which is the point.

JJB4345_80_815

Thank you for the chappy Zogarth! Should we be worried that the system chooses to forget history/records? The First Sage has gaps in his memory? He is the originator of the Bloodline of the Immortal Mind. Does that mean that the First Sage had his Bloodline removed? When did that occur? At death? When the system rewarded the Malefic Viper his Bloodline?

Luke Scheffe

It is neither implied nor confirmed.

Chloe

Heres hoping

SagedIn

Michael Ferguson

The Sage wants to talk about himself and Jake wants to know how this is happening. I don't care, system fuckery works for me. I want to know what the next step is for Jake. How should he pursue power. The boots have a connection to all the primordials, so will the sage show Jake how to get that far?

Damascus

Speaking of that, he needs to start working on the puzzle box again. I wanna see what's inside.

Michael Ferguson

Um I think there's only one simulacrum. In Villy's bloodline. Villy didn't get a heart after killing the Sage. He convinced the system to give him the sage's bloodline. The system probably doesn't have limits on the number of simulations it can do. Which is why the myriad paths event shows everyone the outcomes from different choices.

Korrasis

Im thinking first sage is a villain!

Grine

Actually I'm pretty sure there is a joke about a time traveler going in the 1920th and asking a random person about WW1.

TyranT-Rex

I think we've seen an example of what is happening with the first sage happen when Villy helped Jake. The bloodline would allow any version of the Sage to remember everything he knows. Since the record of the Sage lives on through Villy, the system remembers and created this Sage who then remembers everything. This is could also be why he made himself forbidden knowledge, so that the system doesn't make more Sage echoes.

Accio123

It is heavily implied, but not out right confirmed. The only person who knows of the first sage is Villy and Jake. For some reason knowledge of him is designated as "forbidden knowledge" by the system and they can't explain who he is to even other primordials, as seen when they try and fail to explain the origin of Jake's boots to Eversmile.

Zack Leach

And their little fluffy dog, Parsley

Death56

At that point they would not call it world war 1 they would probably just call it the war

Jeremiah Lambert

#1 doesn't make any sense. Maybe partial omniscience, but doubtful. considering it took the first sage to use a transcendent skill Jake was put into by the system, to know Jake was there. Jake felt the gaze of the "presumably " First sage on villy before vilastromoz knew who the first sage was. Thus it doesn't make sense, because: 1: Jake did not feel the gaze of someone watching him during all the other times Jake saw the first sage's and vilastromoz interactions, but clearly felt the first sage's on someone else when it made no sense for him to know who he was at the time of viewing. 2: the first sage didn't know he was being observed until he was pulled into the use of a transcendent skill. So partial omniscience and omniscient is out of the table. Nope I think if there was an arc to be pulled out of the first sage it will be something bigger than the system can handle and waaaaaay down the line or it was already pulled off by the first mention of the sage. Nope I think this is gonna be massive lore dump and world (system) building and the possibilities after the lore dump are kinda endless.

Jeff Moore

The analogy holds up just fine in the case you mentioned, as it references a snip it in time before the 2nd world war regardless if you were born before, during or after world war 1. Before the 2nd world war no one called the first, "world war one". Much like in America, we don't call it civil war 1 as there hasn't been and hopefully won't be a second. Anywho, great chapter!

Jagswag 4

World War I was called "The Great War" or "The War to End All Wars" before the onset of World War II, so the analogy is correct.

jazz

How?

Julia Niles

cookies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

female person type thing

It was like someone asking about the “First World War” while living before the second one took place. Might want to use a better analogy. This statement could have and probably did happen with the children born between world war 1 and world war 2.

Jeff McCulley

Here, I’ll help! The First Sage’s real name is actually…Sage. His wife’s name was, of course, Rosemary. Their surname was, very naturally, Thyme.

Noah

Oh maybe. I didn't think about that.

Jeff McCulley

No. This is just a recreation.

Jeff McCulley

Nah. He just manages the Records department. He’s a Librarian. And a damn good one.

Jeff McCulley

He’s a Librarisn. He manages the Records department. And in this case, has not read every book in the Library, especially the ones from the newest Universe. He does keep his thumb on the Records involving himself, though. Including the Boots.

Noah

Fascinating

NovaZero

Don't forget Bloodline fuckery. If the Immortal Mind has perfect recall, then someone viewing a memory causes weird kinds of hijinks just logically. And besides, being so bound by time when there's multiple levels of fuckery afoot is silly.

Jose Reyna

TFTC!!!

Jeff McCulley

It’s Bob. It’s always Bob. (From my D&D days. Any NPC we didn’t know the name of—or, who had a name too hard to pronounce—was always Bob)

Jeff McCulley

Nope. This is just a stage set that anyone who was in high school drama should recognize.

NovaZero

No! I am Mi.

Jeff McCulley

Nah. The Firsf Sage is essentially a subroutine of the System. He handles Records—as a good Librarian would. They aren’t back in the First Era, just a stage play of the First Sage’s early life. Set up as a place the two can meet. If anything, they’re outside of Time right now.

Jeff McCulley

Huh. So…Jake is making friends with the dude the System hired to handle its Records department. That’s some pretty good networking. Suppose he’s on LinkedIn?

The Dregs

Bro, what a horrible place to stop. I’m so excited I can barely contain myself.

Sloth

Pretty sure it’s been stated it is either impossible or the system prevents it. There Might be an explanation for time travel, but I think it would be rather jarring considering how much time travel has been averted so far. It’s always been the system copying the past when it wants to ‘time travel’. Never true time travel. My own reason as to why true time travel is impossible is because it would mean affecting the true soul. Though, there may be a way to sort of reverse everything in the multiverse at once, including everyone’s memories… yeah, no one is powerful enough for that, and it still wouldn’t affect the true soul.

Azazel

Yu am Mi?

Ender419

Is it possible Jake just unlocked an Overmind transcendent? I can see it being something like this entire landscape & the first sage take up a small portion of his brain from which he can escape to similar to his soul. And he can store & access all knowledge and converse with the first sage for guidance as the first sage also learns new things. This happens accidentally because he achieved so many levels with the puzzle box thus allowing him to compartmentalize his mind and some his Jake juice started to leak out into the environment by itself. Ooh the possibilities are endless.

Lunch Box

Everything can be explained really easily… System fuckery

matthew strong

I'd like to see some sort of memory based transcendence for Jake. His bloodline doesnt do much there but it would work pretty well together with his bloonline. I'd be surprised if he walked away from this conversation with one but wouldn't be surprised if it made it to his pre B grade checklist Also I think all of you who think the first stage had something to do with the creation of the system are wrong. The guy is all remembering not all knowing.

Jagswag 4

Was there an instance where we were told that time travel was flat out impossible? I must have forgotten it. Also, we have been shown many times that Jake isn't affected by time the same way everyone else is because of his bloodline. All the way back during the tutorial when Eversmile stopped time Jake was unaffected by the time stop, plus if I remember correctly Villy was surprised by Jake's Moment of the Primal Hunter because he shouldn't have been to affect time at all at the level he was currently at. There's a big difference between slowing/stopping time and traveling backwards through it, but as power levels go up I feel like it could be a possibility.

Phoenixdrop

Oh boy we are at the big one now now we just sit back and get lore slammed down our throats can’t wait

matthew strong

I dont think jake had anything to do with the origins of the system. His bloodline might in some sort of super grandparent way but not jake himself.

Jagswag 4

If I remember correctly to go from a mortal to a God it is more than just, reach the correct level, but you have to complete a task that is considered noteworthy enough for your records, like killing a current God or in this case creating the system. Maybe?

Jagswag 4

When Jake has used the skill before to see Villys past the First Sage sees him and has interacted with him which to me implies that he is actually traveling in time to view those instances. I could have miss read or misinterpreted those chapters though.

Sloth

All the comments talking about time travel when it’s been pretty well established that time travel is not possible. I think what’s happening is some weirdness with the system creating sage simulacrums like we have here. This creates weirdness because they aren’t actually snapshots of the sage in the past since each simulacrum has the sages bloodline (obviously). So the simulacrums have continuity of thought (presumably in the order the simulacrums are created). The question, then, is how many first sage simulacrums are there/have there been? Who/what is creating them? And what the hell happened when the system first came? We’re originally led to believe he remembered something he shouldn’t have, but what if we take that to the extreme? What if he remembers an entire other multiverse or something? What if the sage is just on living repeat, every new system having to go through the eras again. It would make some amount of sense, and perhaps that time between integrations, when no universe has a system, grants him a reprieve, and that is why he was excited when he heard it was the 93rd era. Perhaps 100 is the magic number? End of the multiverse before the system starts again?

Krispy sock

Jake is the Sages’s direct descendant, calling it now.

ABTelford

While possible eventually I think Jake would need to become a god first or be real close to it.

ABTelford

Hahaha! “Who are you?” And now…hehe, Jake realized he just might have wasted all those uses for Path other Heretic-Chosen. Hehe! The thought has me giggling! Though I’m sure our dear author won’t disappoint us readers in any way so…I’m excited for the next chpt! 🙂

Sloth

This makes some amount of sense, though there is the issue of time travel. We’re fairly certain time travel doesn’t actually exist. There may be an explanation around this though.

Think he is wanting jake to acknowledge his origin

Azayrian105

I’m definitely feeling that Jake is going to make his first Transcendent skill here.

Rahsheem Reid

Tftc

Kain

@AetherBoye I’m aware he has perfect memory from his bloodline I think his transcendence allowed him to “remember” events that have yet to happen to him but will happen to him. So after he achieved it he “remembered” everything that will ever happen to him in the future across all possible futures. As far as I am aware Villey has not shown any kind of bloodline related precognition and is fully capable of being surprised not just by Jake but by anything really. This is why Jake “appearing” and “surprising” him would be a big deal it’s something he didn’t foresee possibly the only event since his transcendence he didn’t foresee.

Trevor Mergen

Thanks!

Rewdan

Another great read, thanks for the chapter Zogarth

Harry Fitzsimmons

I think when the first sage made his first transcends that was the start of the multiverse

This just reminded of a job interview

NovaZero

Who am I? I am Mi. Who is Yu?

Jagswag 4

I think it's leading to a scenario where the First Sage and Jake work together to create the System by using both of their bloodlines. FS bloodline having to do with memories/records and Jake's having to do with origins and being/reaching the apex, which is essentially the entirety of the system. Also it's a long shot, but I want to put my figurative money on time loop shenanigans making it so that Jake is the actual first God. Because it would make sense with his other titles: primal, primeval, and primordial, all sort of meaning similar things.

Blackbriar

I've been looking forward to this conversation for a while. Exciting stuff!

liquid_helix

Nice work. Great chapter, excited to learn more. Thanks for your efforts Zogarth!

Azazel

Will the real “Sim-Sagey” please stand 🆙??

Doodlenoodle

Do we know if the First Sage is or is not the father/teacher of all the primordials? That his records is the reason all the primordials managed to become gods. I belive that when Jake used the skill all the other popups that where removed where the other primordials paths as they to are linked to the first sage.

Azazel

Party on Garth! Have a wonderful holiday!!! …..as long as you don’t leave us on a major Cliffhanger.

Mat

Then how come he doesn’t know who Jake is?

Krispy sock

Great chapter, love how this is going down! TFTC 🤘🏼🤘🏼

Timey wimmy mumbo jumbo

Spencer Miller

So why did the Sage want Villy to kill him? It could be to just enable Villy to grab the bloodline later. It could be to experience the system taking and storing the bloodline from within. It could be to offload the mental strain of the bloodline onto someone else’s biology- the system does punish powerful bloodlines. It could be to enable to spawning of simulations like this for a long time, as Villy is likely to live a long time. I don’t really know, though I suspect it’s a combination of reasons. As for how he knows about eras? It could be a few things. One is a plain understanding of the System. One is that he knows something about the creation of the system. But I notice that he calls it the “Integration” of the system. I suspect that there entire System resets sometimes. Back to era 1 and a new multiverse. It might even reuse some of the best bloodlines it found! But if it did this, the recipient or Patriarch of the Bloodline of the Immortal Mind would remember the old Multiverse and, perhaps, their own integration. They would remember much, though, giving them a leg up on others. His happiness at it being the 93rd era could then be interpreted as happiness the loop is still going, or that it will end soon, or that it has time to go before ending. Last theory now, I promise. If Jake’s bloodline, being the ideal Hunter bloodline, can kill Bloodlines he has access to (cough cough EH), then perhaps this would allow the First Sage a reprieve? An escape from eternal life and reuse by the System? Alternatively, if the System is based on an incredibly powerful Bloodline or Transcendence, he might want Jake to mess with it.

Spencer Miller

Theory: The Bloodline of the Immortal Mind is exactly that. It places the consciousness, or at least a consciousness, inside of the bloodline, inside the Truesoul. That is, it places a full consciousness where the system can’t touch it. This allows it to store memories indefinitely. Further, I can imagine this allowing the individual to manipulate their own records, which are inside the Truesoul (to some extent). This could allow for customized levels of system assistance or system-provided knowledge, leading to the Sage’s observed skill. This would lead to there being two Sages- kinda. One is the system’s understanding of the Sage (the records outside the bloodline) and the actual Sage (the awareness and records inside the bloodline). Jake would be talking to the System’s version now, which, like Sim-Jake, has its own version of the bloodline. So this is Sim-Sage. There is also a Sage still inside the Bloodline of the Immortal Mind. From there, through Villy, he was able to have the Challenge Dungeon drop the boots. The boots upgrade tapped into records of the Sage, which, by nature of the bloodline, included booting up Sim Sage, allowing him to influence the upgrade. So the true Sage knows who Jake is through Villy, but the Sim only knows through the Boots and through the times when Path booted up his Simulation. I have theories about what’s up with his plans, but I’ll separate that into a reply on this comment.

Clint

Great chapter. Living up to the long anticipation so far.

TNT

Thanks for the chapter. So hyped for Sage Time. Also love the little bit of classic social awkwardness, breaking the tension a bit. We might even learn the First Sage’s actual name

Sean McClain

I don't think the first sage created the system, I think the first sage took over management of the system and has been the administrator ever since. The system probably started as a magical experiment by a bunch of wizards and it feeds off ambient energy to run and expand. But it was directionless until the first sage got involved.

Sean

Oooh I'm starting to think I know why the First Sage 'vanished'. I could be wrong though, it's always more exciting when I'm wrong.

Abhishek

Brilliant!! Enjoy your vacation Zog! TFTC

Frederik

I doubt it I just see no connection between jakes bloodline and the first sage

Ty Cooper

Well Villy said the FS seemed to know he would become a God. So, maybe Jake really travels back in time to origins in some way telling the FS that Villy made it to Godhood. Easing the old man and allowing him to die in piece knowing his records made immortality. Making a paradox loop or something sending the boots and messages through time to Jake as thanks. Lol huge stretches. But huge Doctor Who fan as well. 😁 so my mind is having fun with this.

Aaditya Ravindran

@AetherBoye Technically speaking, if someone had a bloodline that had perfect memory, it would naturally have perfect perception since the brain has to perceive first in order to store information. So the First Sage knowing that Jake didn't belong there wasn't a transcendence skill, it was just part of his bloodline.

Steven Tuttle

the first sage being the person who made the system makes alot of sense he is the First sage and some how has linked him self to his old boots thu records witch i think he can he can manipulate some how since records are just the memory of you and all you did the sage wants some one other then villy to remeber him also

I’m so happy it’s Monday

Nexas Aurelias

I've been chomping at this bit for this for so long! And I am not disappointed. Enjoy the holiday Zogarth you've earned it

ItWasIDIO!!

Who are you? Who, who, who, who?I really wanna know Oh, I really wanna know Come on, tell me, who are you, you, you, ah, you?

Matthew Parker

Okay I am pumped the first sage arc is here! I hope that it some how ties in to Villy's family and whatever he has going on to try and bring them back! If not I hope that those questions get answered soon! I have been waiting a long time to find out what is going on with them!

doctordirt

Solid theory 👌

Nate Slusher

Huh……chapter equals 10/10 Cliff “evilness” equals 11/10…. Like the Viper doing a planetary sacrifice for a planet only containing small adorable fluffy puppies.🤣 Very excited for this!!!!!

Roy

Enjoy your holiday Zogarth <3 as always, thanks for the consistent updates!

Trugath

Instead of wondering what the sage did. We should be wondering what Jake managed to break

Davey876

He said you can, it's just extremely hard. So hard that it almost never happens because the transcendence must be made while not using a single record of your bloodline.

Trugath

Ohhhhh. This is a Jake juice thing isn't it. Something he does in the future goes back to it's origin which is the sage.

SmokeJam

How the turns are tabling, lovely chapter, thanks

Sargon Yami

The first sage had at least four transcendence....

Elinar Godly

Lovely put. I wont dive too deep, but I firmly believe that what you described is only one interpretation of the experience of being a fourth dimensional creature, capable of remembering their whole life and experience it at any time. Some would be happy with it. They too would end their life, or naturally die but most of the time they could have enjoyed themselves. Here is a wild theory: Jake can influence the First Sage because he is the embodiment of the concept of the Primal, Primval, Harbringer of Change, there is a theme of the very first beginning and the change that follow after it. The first Sage is someone who is the origin of memory hence why Jake can affect the first Memory which entangles with his concept. For a moment I also thought that the First Stage is the one who initiated the System. That is why he asks which era it is, as well as being happy it is still functioning. He found the world boring and wanted to know everything about it. So he imagined himself being the system. Villy killed his mortal form and he became only the System. While they are the same person they also are not. The first sage is a person, the system is a system, like the laws of reality.

Victory Holcomb

Is the First Sage saying that time is a flat circle?

AetherBoye

A lot of stuff going on here, so some corrections. 1. The First Sage's bloodline is what causes his memory, he does in fact truly remember every moment of his life simultaneously during every moment of his life. That's explicitly what the sage's bloodline does, Villy confirmed it and it affects villy the same way. Villy said that even he has the downside of always remembering at every moment of his immortal life, but since he got the bloodline later he can compartmentalize it so it doesn't affect him as much 2. Having a bloodline doesn't make it IMPOSSIBLE to have a transcendence, just extremely hard. As we know, the first sage is a notorious rule breaker and has both multiple transcendences AND a bloodline Now for your theory, I'll posit one of my own that I think is gaining more and more credence, and a new one now 1. One of the first sage's transcendences is something like "Omniscience". It would explain why he knew Jake was there, even in a simple vision, it would explain how he's so knowledgeable about things he should definitely not know, and it would explain how he could interact with Jake through a vision "How could he have omniscience if he doesn't know who Jake is?" That brings me to #2 2. Jake is partially unknowable, his true essence blocked from observation even by transcendent skills by his bloodline. It would fit with his perception focused build and it explains why the first sage doesn't just immediately know who he is despite seemingly knowing basically everything else even though he shouldn't.

Staudi

Tftc! What a cliffhanger...

Spencer Miller

He said that it’s incredibly difficult, because the records of the transcendence can’t overlap with those of the bloodline (or prior transcendence, I think), and most people with bloodlines have the records of the bloodline saturating pretty much all of their records. Possible, but hard as crap.

If i recall, he said it just made it harder to gain a transcendence if you already had a bloodline.

Kt-x

Oooh! This is good! 😁 Thanks for the chapter!

Loststar7

Almost died laughing at that last sentence. “Who are you?” Fucking perfect. Thank you so much for the chapter.

Nathan Johnson

So my money is on the First Sage being possibly part of the creation of the system itself seeing as he seems pleased the the system has lasted 93 eras. My guess is that it was created purely so that Records could better store the knowledge of the universe.

Kain

But I thought it was confirmed he had a transcendence? If not perhaps it’s just a deeper part of the bloodline, layers like Jake’s has to his, that Villey simply doesn’t have access to or the system failed, or chose, not to copy over to the version Villey got. He said at one point he was curios so obviously if any version of this is true it had to trigger at some point after that curiosity because that existence could never not already know about well everything.

@ author the commen saying goes like you can't buy time but since you told us you going to have holiday let me say that you are free to do so without anyone quitting his abo so you can treat it as a small Christmas gift compared to all the joy you have given us. -End- first sage seems super nice so far 👌

Shai182

TFTC! And this is Nice, I want more of this after all the Fighting and stuff.

Michael

Zogarth, you could honestly make plenty more chapters and plenty more archs where Jake just sits back and chats with the first sage, I would happily read every last word of it over and over again. The first sage immediately caught my interest the second he was introducing and I always knew he'd be a great character to get fleshed out and have more interactions with

Reno

Didn't Villy say you can't have a transcendence if you get a bloodline first? That it doesn't leave room or something. Then when asked, he said he got his bloodline after his transcendence. I could be imagining it of course, but my memory fits what we've seen so far. This was after the sword saint got his transcendence.

Lizy Flore

Yeah after this chapter I got the same idea. Records exists outside the system preview, but unlike transcendence and bloodline, they are somehow.. connected to it ? Or at least the system made a connection to the Records. Oh, I just got a theory. What if the system used the FS as a bridge to connect to the records of the Universe ? And it’s somehow related to his bloodline.

Justin Moen

Oh man. It’s FINALLY HERE!!! The first sage is already scheming. He wants Jake to know more to solidify the memory in the eyes of the system so the system will also remember. Why? Idk. We get this horrible news about time off for holidays and these cliff hangers!! I can’t take it! Tyftc!

NoctisMi

Damn, that's actually a really good theory

Justin Moen

“The First Sage had died during the first era... before eras were a think.” think -> thing

Kain

I’ll throw my guess out the sages bloodline is to have a perfect memory my guess is his transcendence is to “remember” his entire life at every moment of his life and this even applied retroactively. IE his past self “remembers” his future experiences he is fully aware of the totality of his existence at all times…. And then Jake popped up where he wasn’t before changing everything. It’s unclear if he has the ability to change his path or if he’s on one path and it’s set in stone for himself but Jake certainly seems to have the ability to fuck with it. If he is unable to change his own path no wonder he wanted to die the fucking tedium of infinitely walking on a treadmill knowing literally everything that’s going to happen and exactly how you will respond to every situation would be agonizing I imagine it wouldn’t even really feel like living and if that stretched to infinity….. yeah no shit he didn’t want immortality.

Ty Cooper

Tftc! What a great start to the First Sage arc. Been looking forward to this meeting for so long now it seems. Sparking even more curiosity. So good Zog. Also Zog enjoy your Christmas and new years. My addiction will probably make me twitch every morning but I will make do. Enjoy and refresh yourself. Happy authors make great chapters.

Ryan Smart

I doubt it’s the case since we are getting proof that the sage has knowledge of the eras and shit but not 100% out of the realm of possibility

Mat

With how much Jake sucks at remembering stuff, you might be on to something here

Exodus Uno

The cost of the skill is losing his memories, and he said he purposely made it that way for when he got the Sage's bloodline. Why would he make that the cost BEFORE the first sage was dead?

Martino Zanchi

Thx for the ch, looking forward to the next one and enjoy your holidays

The First Sage had died during the first era... before eras were a (thing)think.

Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey

Throwing my guess out there. I think the first sage used both his bloodline and a Transcendence to merge with the concept of records themselves, making him the record keeper of the system

The First Sage had died during the first era... before eras were a think. The First Sage had died during the first era... before eras were a thing.<----corrected. TYFTC!

I'm just it isn't the 22.😌

Cory Sauls

This, I hope, will provide so much lore and answered questions. Thank you for the chapter. Really looking forward to this week’s chapters.

Kjell

I don't think records are something that the sis from the system. How it's written it sounds more like records is something the system uses for it purpose. The Sage himself said "I am the only one who remembers it, with even the system having chosen to forget.”. Maybe they are more like bloodlines as something outside of the systems.

AfroMocha

Thanks for the chapter zog

A. B. Edwards

Villy showed his transcendence to turn someone into ingredients to absorb their records with Yip of Yore. He also says he killed the First Sage and in doing so the records of the Sage lived on in him. Makes me wonder if that is when he made that skill.

Valhazstromoz

So he's literally alive in the records of the system and Jake's skill gives him access to that plane of existence

Darshar Griffonmane

Oh yes! I love this, all of this. Time, space, memory, records, who the hell knows? This meeting with the Sage is going to play such an important part I think in Jake's foundation of understanding of the system/reality/etc as he starts to truly advance into the higher tiers. It is going to be so much fun! tyftc

Kyler

This is the kind of cliff I love on an early morning. I’ll now have something to wonder about throughout the this 12 hour day of drilling

How do you even know what eras are?” Jake asked back, frowning. The First Sage had died during the first era... before eras were a think. It was like someone asking about the “First World War” while living before the second one took place. It just didn’t make sense.
