Thanks for the chapter. First sage has been cool shit. Definitely a fun training montages.

best fight yet! let's goooo

Stuart McCabe

Its the way Jake learns. Jake doesnt reflect on stuff after the fact much and only rarely expands or improves skills outside combat. Kick his ass an d hes forced to puch himself.

Daniel Brian

I didn't even catch that parallel! Think this is sort of an homage?

liquid_helix

That chapter was actually Morpheus fighting Neo, in the first Matrix movie. That’s all you need to know.

liquid_helix

Ok Neo, you think that’s Air you breathe?

Thenais

With lots of artemis in it

Gwiddion

Yes but as I understand it that training wasn't actually dangerous to him. Jake isn't someone that gets a lot stronger by training with out adverse conditions his largest breakthroughs come after or during difficult conflicts. This is such a situation the sage is definitely making it look like he wants to harm Jake by destroying his image of himself over and over causing a buildup of fatigue. For other people he would likely just have shown them that he is able to manipulate their soul space and told them he shouldn't be able to do this. But by pushing Jake to his limits during constant conflict that feels dangerous he will get Jake to reach further in a much shorter time than he would be able to reach with just the explanation.

Mat

Didn't he do combat training for like 40 years in his soul space?

Mat

5 charges for a ass-whooping

Caleb Palmer

I think you're doing the same thing as Jake. There is no difference. One can't exist without the other. It's the use that defines the words, not the word defining the use. He's a Hunter, why isn't he showing that? Why doesn't it present itself completely in his being. Because he hasn't made the full connection, you are your Path, Mind Body and Soul.

Mat

Why would he mention it? Villy takes a hands off approach when it comes to Jake and I don't see how this is any different from a lot of things Villy is aware of and Jake isn't.

Seamus Harley

Apart from the mess with Palate, I don't think villy ever saw the inside of Jake's soul

Ty Cooper

I feel this is pertaining to records and concepts of the soul space/soul. Jake has complete control over his soul space but has mentally put limiters on himself by accident or because he just thought it was tough enough. The records of the FS are strong and Jake feared them which put limiter and gave the FS control. He is showing him the concepts of the soul spaces and how he should have complete control over it. Which might make Jake just fix pallet or removes the limiters and controls it with better ease now. Lots of possibilities

C0bra$

Thank u for the story

Kuniku778

Tbh this chapter lost me, I either missed the point or have a misunderstanding about the difference between concepts and record. I thought records were passive, while concepts were the active part. In example, so to shape a soul space would need concepts about the true soul right? That would then feed records of it happening. Or have I missed something.

Gardor

Saying "Jake's bloodline only exerts itself when in true danger of death" is a ridiculous statement: Jake's bloodline exerts itself all the time, in everything he does. It's helped him make potions and fuse skills and shoot arrows and talk to gods and honestly, everything he's ever done. It's also reared it's head every single time someone entered his soul space.

BuckleYoPants

There's no shot a primordial doesn't know about personalizing your own soul space

kingofshibainu

I think this is a first sage thing that he didn't teach Villy

Martinus Chrisjan

Makes me think that this lesson will be a big factor in being able to establish a divine realm and become a god. Also, makes me sad thinking of how desolate Villy's divine realm is. Sure, some of it is part of his path, but I hope things improve for the snakey fella.

Martinus Chrisjan

The first sage is definitely a weird one. He is not behaving like "a fragment of records". He's not behaving like something that doesn't have a true soul, for that matter.

Troy Telford

I wonder if Jake's soul space is affected by Villys god realm and his blood drop - having more influence than Jake realized, shaping him more than is good for his path and the first safe is pointing this out to help Jake take more control to help him forge a better path into the future? I can't wait to find out if I'm close or not!

Martinus Chrisjan

You know, I do think you are right. He is now able to be and do whatever he wants, but his innermost beliefs of himself are still of someone that needs to suppress themselves and live a dull life.

Troy Telford

Oh! Very good theory!

Mike

True, but the more walls the better then right? Getting used to adversity and learning to overcome it.

Daniel is ŁØNE

I mean technically the fight against valdemars clone was kind of a wall, he definitely couldn’t have won at that point without entrusting his everything to his bloodline, and that opened the path for him to see some of the potential he could have in future.

Naotsugu97

That would be epically hilarious!

Naotsugu97

Of course it’s not best analogy! This is a work of fiction!!! The only point you’ve made clear is you’re a whiny hyper critical douche. The point is that Jake has WILLINGLY immersed himself in poison, ate a damn world ending curse, and fought his own damn self almost to death for training. Therefore, in view of the foregoing points, this is tough love for training. In order to push Jake to realize his potential, the first sage is administering a lesson to bring out Jake’s potential. Do you really think Jake would listen if the sage said “pretty please listen to my constructive criticism”? Good grief!

Sam

Not the best analogy since Jake actually has a chance to die here if he doesn't learn something he didn't know was possible fast enough. No one to my knowledge has died because they didn't know how to wash some dishes.

Greedsmith

Didn’t Jake view the world before the system, when he was suppressing his Bloodline, dull and devoid of color? Could he still be suppressing himself subconsciously?

BuckleYoPants

Huh I wonder why Villy never mentioned the bland soul space before

Azayrian105

I thought though that if there is a fragment of his records it has them all through the bloodline of the immortal mind? I can be wrong though so I’m not sure.

Paulo Furlaneto

Tftc!!!!!!

joe schmoe

The first sage really is a monster, the fragment of records he is using to absolutely body Jake in his own soul is bananas. If Jake really learns from this I bet his gaze would be more impactful having a more resilient soul to clash with.

Unlisted Pokémon Hudson

This feels like a domain expansion from jjk. A true representation of their souls and character. Jake’s domain is like an overwhelmingly strong simple domain without any of his own personal flair at all. If he learns to utilize it to its max power he could probably use it to fight with other people.

Hunter

It would be interesting if a cultivator’s soul space is what becomes their divine realm when they become gods.

Mike

I wonder if we are going to see something similar but different than how Delve works later in the story. Soul cultivation so to speak. Also this is a great wall for Jake to hit early in. We just had the viper talking about the problems with geniuses not hitting walls in his fight with Yip. It's important to hit and overcome them time and time again.

Hussein Zenki

jake legit got schooled 😭

Mr.Spooks

The soul space kinda reminds me of the UIs in the show Pantheon and how they fight

Dalton Service

Or he in fact is such a great teacher that he can change his method of teaching to best fit his disciples style. This is literally the best method for Jake to learn.

Xarow

Even for Jake this is pretty dumb. FS is literally having to spank him! I am guessing here, but is this to guide him to the fact that within your soul you ‘should’ have the beginnings of the same control you later gain in your Divine Realm? Jake even though his soul is more advanced than the average has gone and missed the obvious that in his soul he is already pretty much the god.

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Endern

So it seems like Sim-Jake can still improve the Eternal Shadow skill. First in the EH fight the clone lasted longer then before, now in the Soulspace more clones are appearing. All this without Jake having done any dedicated practice himself, and seemingly not even knowing about it. Might this be the first Mythical+ upgrade Jake gets?

Obsidian Falcon

It's also this is the first sage someone that Jake himself has acknowledged as more powerful than him and only at c-grade some one the primordial holds in the highest regards. He isn't just some strong human this isn't in the same case as Jake's fight with the sword saint and having the reaction then that he was loosing to a lower leveled human. This is a case of he has put the first sage above him even subconsciously so he has to get a round that to have him and his bloodline react in tow.

TyranT-Rex

That exactly how I see it. Went to college with a few people who never studied in high-school and didn't know how to handle the college classes when they got difficult.

Krispy sock

Absolutely loving where this is going with the sage!! Great reading and man the Sage is one powerful person. Love it, thanks for the chapter!!

Rewdan

Thanks Zogarth

Naotsugu97

And trust me, they’ll think forcing them to help is punishment!

Naotsugu97

If your kid claims they are unable to help with the dishes or household cleaning bc they don’t know how, what do you do? Press them into service and make them assist you. Teach by example. No matter how much they cry or complain, they’ll learn. If you do not push them beyond what they wish, you are complicit in their failure to develop as a person.

William WIlson

Ty I think you missed a little detail. When the first sage said he could handle his full Bloodline at b grade was before the first sage knew the Bloodline evolved. I personally think that Jake's Bloodline in c grade would be easy for him to handle at b grade but if it evolves again whose to say.

William WIlson

Jake's Bloodline only ever exerts itself when in true danger of death. Jake's doesn't ever really get to that point in this fight. However I think this entire lesson will be teaching Jake to have more control over his Bloodline.

Adam White

Anyone else getting a Matrix vibe?

Danny Bagley

Called it!

Ty Cooper

I feel some of this is also that the FS is short on time and knows Jake will learn better under pressure si it works out. I feel this will leave a mark on Jake's records. Boosting his crazy records even further.

Trevor Mergen

Thanks!

Daniel Gesualdi

Souds like the sage taught villy how to teach if this is his normal style...

Andromeda Adams

Whoa! That is the best way Jake learns. Tyftc!!

Gwiddion

Thats also true the way Jake sees the sage definetly empowers him being able to do what he did.

Gwiddion

my guess is that jake always domiated via force and not technique as he is always never really tries to do sth perfectly in combatand always does it the most efficient way, which for him is pure power. The sage can counter his force with way superior technique. Both the curse and the demon where primal beings without much active thought behind them show them force and supress them and u have won. The sage is the first person appart from villy with the power and technique to counter jakes force.

kingofshibainu

Know thyself Padawan

Andy Swearingen

I feel like it's been explained many times that people like Jake don't learn correctly by just telling them. Jake is a learn by doing type and the first sage is teaching In what is probably the best way possible for Jake. Pissing him off pushing his limits and making him overcome them.

Matt Spratte

Now that you mention it, his soul space should be a endless forest right? A prinal forest right?

BumAssBumAss

Correct in most cases, but this is Jake. How many times has he evolved while in a dangerous situation? He got eternal shadow back in D-grade by purposely going to fight snappy. He got 3 skill upgrades fighting ell'hakan. Remember how the first sage was teaching Villy? The first sage is just adapting his teaching methods for the individual.

Jose Reyna

Eric Rios

¡That chapter is great! ¡Hope every one had/is having a good holiday season!

LIMBO

Royal ass whooping

Ty Cooper

Or Nevermore haters. That was a good rant.

Daniel

I always thought Jake instinctively understood he had 100% power over his soul because of his bloodline. Why would this even be possible? He should've gotten this way faster and not even allowed the encroachment of his soul to be controlled by the First Sage. If ANYTHING prompts bloodline dominance it should've been this particular situation.

Ty Cooper

Yeah I thought that at first but every word is infused with willpower. I am sure some of them are Transcendent skills that get mixed in with the rest but not distracting Jake with that part. He wanted him to realize his faults not worry about Transcendents.

Ty Cooper

I feel all this in his soul is self imposed image of an unstoppable genius he let in. In his mind the Sage is unstoppable so he is unstoppable. The FS said that Jake let him do all this. Well asked him why he allows it.

Lynderyn

I guess we found out why Jake felt dead inside pre-integration

Klown Keidra

I think I am beginning to understand the strength of the First Sage. The only place the System doesn't have access is your true soul, and the First Sage made his True Soul the most powerful it could be, so much so that it could effect the world itself. Jake's Soulspace was always a utility, somewhere he could retreat to, to meditate and talk with himself in different ways. The First Sage is trying to fix this mentality.

SmokeJam

I actually despise teacher or trainer who are like that. Arrogant pricks with no fucking idea how to actually teach. Somehow it always works out in stories, but it really shouldn't. Just inflicting pain can't teach you a new skill.

Ty Cooper

I like the whole impose your will into reality aka soulspace. I almost feel Jake will be able to use his soul outside of his soulspace at some point. A part of his new found need to improve and strengthen his soul. Oh and I think he will be his Devine realm. He goes wherever the hunt goes.

Ty Cooper

He is constantly suppressing his bloodline and the FS said he should be able to handle it fully in B-grade. But inside his soul he has all the power and could possibly use his blodline fully inside his soulspace. Looking forward for what's to come.

Ty Cooper

He is like Duskleaf in that he doesn't put energy or thought into unimportant things. He did build spaces to fight the curse and sim-jake for practice, though. But they also could have been desolate mountains come to think about it.

Ty Cooper

Lol well damn. That will probably never leave my brain again.

KenTX325

So, Jake needs to turn the environment toxic. He needs to use some of his underutilized skills like pride. Turn the space into a maze, block light, maybe use shadows.

Ty Cooper

Lol the only way Jake seems to learn. By beating the crap out of him till he learns something or well banging his head against a cauldron also.

Rahsheem Reid

FS is still the best teacher out there!

Jack Dawson

Jake's soul being the equivalent of those kids at school who are just smarter than everyone else and who don't have too study to get good grades and then later in life don't know how to study is fairly in character for him

Dan Pangione

In Jake's defense he did kind of have a lot going on since the integration

John Durrett

Tyftc. Word!

John Durrett

Yes. lol

John Durrett

I can’t help but hear Dumbledoor’s voice when the first sage is speaking. Makes the exchange even better

joel southard

Nice thank you for the chapter

Sam

Is punishing someone for not doing something they didn't know they could do really tough love?

Steven Myer

I think if I had to guess the trick is going to be to move your soul space in to reality and you into your soul space, boom godhood! How you do it is up to you. (I Obviously have no idea just spitballing)

Rocotrap

I actually think the mistake is in "they", I think Zog meant "there"

JJB4345_80_815

Yes, thank you for the chappy Zogarth!

John

He modeled his soul space off of Villys didn’t he? Since that was the first soul space he ever entered he assumed they all look like that.

Noctis Uchiha

Do you think he will be a God with a divine place or will he be a God who is his divine place like the the primordial that makes weapons?

John Looney

If I remember correctly when he went to the demon princes soul it looked like a hellscape with lava and everything

Robert Phipps Jr (Perren d'Wolff)

also, its not so much that his control is absent, more like its lacking and the First Sage is just better as Jake never moved passed instinct to true control.

Robert Phipps Jr (Perren d'Wolff)

Knowing something instinctually is different than knowing how to do something learned. Humans have basic survival instincts that boil down to eat sleep drink and have sex. But a human can learn how to do all that but better. instead of just eating and drinking we can cook and make meals. Instead of just sleeping any random place we learned to make beds and sleep comfortably thus getting better rest. Instinctual knowledge is vastly different to learned ability.

Indevan Jones

I kept thinking Villy woulda gotten him a cursed watch from Aeon where he or miranda could set reminders. Lol

Robert Phipps Jr (Perren d'Wolff)

I swear I heard the old school mortal kombat music play as I read that last word, "Fight"!

Thomas Grimshaw

I think that is the point and is sort of spelled out by the first sage when he says "you stopped at the start line". He instinctively did these things because of the strength of his Soul but has never pushed that aspect, never experimented, again spelled out when the FS says "You are an adult playing with children".

Noctis Uchiha

Do you think that part of it is due to Jake not really uniting with his Bloodline fully? I mean he still sometimes mentions his bloodline like being separate from him. Also, being tied to his true race could be a cause of it.

ABTelford

That makes sense I guess - forcing a conscious understanding of his instinctual control. But why is that control so absent in this chapter? I’m feeling a need for a little explanation - which can come later, as long as it comes.

Steven Myer

I feel we're about to learn how to be a god....the hard part will be doing it.

Gwiddion

No Jake is just a vibes person but to truly be able to reach the pinnacle even he has to start understanding his power

ABTelford

Yea! I was thinking at first every word Sage said was a transcendent skill. Like in the vision of the void dweller.

ABTelford

True, Jake is comically forgetful, But it needs to be stated somehow, sometime for it to work.

Gwiddion

But he won't be compared for ever to his peers, same as his universe won't be closed off forever. He will have to face stronger foes from previous era's if he wants reach the pinnacle. Who is to say there won't be a failed a grade at some point that will try to kill him and gain enough records that way to proceed their advancement. Yes villy can protect him from god's etc but I doubt he will interceed vs a b grade. And Jake definitely needs to start understanding where his power comes from, what it does and how to use it better and not mainly go by vibes.

Justin Moen

Thanks for the chapter!! But I feel like it was a little light today… I want more! ❤️

TyranT-Rex

I think the issue is that Jake's soul is so much stronger than others his grade right now, that he sees no need to train it, or even knew it could be trained. This means he'll reach a wall much later on than his peers and have difficulties over coming it. where others might have already figured out how to slowly strengthen their soul, so eventually they would pass Jake in strength.

Borbino the great

I think the reason he did back then was cause his bloodline did the heavy lifting there so I think it was more instinctual? And now he actually has to use it

Justin Moen

Gotta remember that most people don’t even make it to C grade. The ones that make it farther are also all talents and have their own strengths. While Jake has a larger advantage with his bloodline, as we saw with el dicko, the gap in strength is starting to close. Not to mention Jake’s entire path is fighting significantly above his current level. In those later grades, conceptual power should be equally if not more important than actual power, e.g. yip of yore convincing people something is true makes it true. Not actual hard work and discipline. His concept of strength needs to change and that’s what he’s being taught right now

Clint

He didn’t ever know. He just went with his instincts when his survival was in the line. FS is trying to get him to see it consciously.

Gavin

He is absolutely trouncing Jake in his own soul space with barely any effort a feat which he shouldn't be able to do. That's because Jake hasn't truly found strength. That's the message that's been clear this arc. If you're comfortable with him settling for just being able to beat his current peers then that's the mediocrity you're okay with but Jake's path isn't about just being able to hunt what he can already clear

ABTelford

Edit: change “wasn’t” to “weren’t” in this sentence.: “Teleported right into his own arcane explosion, taking him by complete and utter surprise as they evidently wasn’t where he’d wanted to go.” The reason? The verb is modifying the plural “they”, so it needs to be “were”.

Gwiddion

Yes he trains but he only trains his alchemy to failure. As he is so gifted his combat training even against Carmen in s just friendly sparing matches. In my opinion he should have had hard sparring matches against the king or way stronger c grades like the wyvern. Your definitely right he definitely is a vibes person and doesn't strive towards understanding in any combat.

Clint

Tftc. Is Jake about to begin building his divine realm in just C grade?

Sammot

Tftc!

TyranT-Rex

I don't think the issue here is Jake knowing how to use is soul to suppress things. It's that the Sage is using Jake's own soul space to suppress him. Anytime Jake tried to do something, the Sage just took control from him.

JayseKnyte

Jake forgetting is on brand for his character. With how much it happens maybe he'll get a memory or alert skill for his development. Ding! Reminder to take inventory of your storage item. You have usefull shit in there!

Kjell

True but this isn't something where I could 100% say that ther is no way. I would totally believe it if Zogarth dropes PH because he just doesn't enjoy it anymore. I still remember his rant about the release "schedule" XD

Charles

TFTC

Kjell

Damm. Didn't even though aboutthat. Thx

Christopher Robin Sævre

Yeah imagine Jake just fucking dies and that’s the end 🤣

JayseKnyte

I've been wondering why is soulspace was so desolate. With how he wanted the valley with is lodge to stay untouched a wasteland for an into world can't be is preference. He just never thought or bothered to change it? Yeah, that's on brand.

Daniel Brian

Hence the wink.

Zack Leach

My personal theory is that it's the beginning stage necessary to create a divine realm and it cant usually be taught or trained because it would impact a potential god's records to do so. Look at Villy's realm, its a barren wasteland of miasma and corruption but it exemplifies his path and records. The holy land is a place of plenty and at the same time mediocrity where souls can find the material needs they desire in exchange for feeding the realm and church.

Baged

Who would want a serie to end that pay you 100.000+ dollars a month?

ABTelford

Ok, I liked this chapter, it was fun and a great ride! but… Jake knew how to control his soul space instinctively and demonstrated this way back when he got the drop of blood from Villy. It’s how he suppressed the drop of blood in the first place! He also redemonstrated this instinctive knowledge while helping the Cerulian devil. So I feel that this whole chapter is… false. Wrong. For this chapt to work there needs to be some comment about Jake having forgotten this - or something like “ how did you suppress that drop of blood? It’s like you’ve forgotten. Or did you ever even know?”

Frédéric Cantin

Tyftc

Staudi

Thanks for the chapter!

NSaaby

Slow.... as in the first sage slows down outside time, and they have more speed up time inside the soulspace?

Polaris

Honestly I think morale would work in this situation as well

Lion3125

Hmm, I'm not exactly sure that's true. Same as I'm not sure if FS isn't just spouting nonsense here. He's saying that Jake can improve (sure that part is true) and needs to, too. Which is the part I have trouble understanding. It's obviously beneficial. But needed? FS himself said that he can beat up all his peers. Now I'm not entirely certain... But wouldn't that still be true later on? As in: He evolves to B grade and has an advantage against B grades, and so on? Or is the training component too big once he reaches A or S grade?

Daniel Brian

Duuuude! Jake is going to come out of this a fuckton stronger! Unless Zogarth is ending the series here..😉

Karim Saadi

Jake's such a dum dum. He treats his soul space like reality, doing the same things as he can do on reality when it's his own perception deciding what the space does

Boomer

I was kind of wondering about any kind of decorations for the soul space and if it's basically the same as a divine realm

Bob of Doom

He does train and face hardships. What he doesn't do is try to understand things. He instinctively understands things, using his bloodline to learn. Since he doesn't ask questions it leads to situations like this. This First Sage wanted to understand so he asked questions and figured out what the soul space was. Jake doesn't ask, he just does.

Amazing chapter finally Jake is shown that if he wants to reach the pinnacle he has to train and face hardships. And not just run into conflict after conflict relying on his talent and this dumb thumb from his bloodline. It reads amazingly hype when it happens but lately I felt it happening to often.
