Rogan, thanks for the response, im wanting to make a 2 piece vice for the mill table but also have some other small projects to do. is there a "general use" size of slitting saw or is it just such that you get the sizes when you need them if that makes sense?

Eric, it depends on what you need the slitting saw for, can you share a bit more about what you're making? hi guys, i have figured out how to square up the part ( flycut one side and square it up that way) but i have found myself in need of a slitting saw for the mill. i have went on McMaster Carr this morning but found there are hundreds of thicknesses and diameters and such and i have no idea where to start looking. any suggestions? thanks allot Julian

how could i square up the part perfectly without parallels?

The parallels won't get tight unless the surfaces touching the vise jaws are perfectly parallel and the surface touching the parallels is perfectly square. Until you've fully squared up a piece, it's normal for one of the two parallels to be not quite tight.

my name is Julian i have a machine shoppe with my grandpa and have recently gotten a mill added to the shoppe. i have been using parallels in a vice and have been tappy-tap-tapping the parts in with a machinist hammer but the parallels always stay loose. any suggestions on how to combat this as im out of ideas? thanks, julia
