The Proteus Effect 0.6 is Released!
🕑 Added 2018-08-25 03:34:05 +0000 UTC Greetings!At long last, 0.6 is out! There’s a lot of new stuff, and I made a number of changes that affect existing content. Probably the biggest one is that I’ve added conversation pictures for all the Bunnies, but there are some other ones that stretch all the way back to when Alex & Ana enter the game world. If you’ve been thinking about starting a fresh playthrough, this is probably a good time to do it!
There are a bunch of notes and announcements I have about this release, but before I get to that, here’s the changelog:
Changelog 0.6:
- The very beginning of a new dungeon (more about that below)
- 2 new multi-part H-scenes
- Bunnies now have conversation portraits (including 0.5.x conversations)
- Introduced the recollection room, which lets you see H-scenes you’ve previously unlocked
- New enemy art and aesthetic (and some animated ones)
- New healing minigame
- New abilities for Alex and Ana
- New combat classes and abilities
- A hidden repeatable boss! (How many times can you beat him?)
- Introduced a credits page
- New buildings and areas
- Lots more skits and dialogue
Other notes: Guard ability now reduces damage by ~25%, down from 50%
The first announcement about this release is that there will be a smaller ‘supplemental’ release coming out. This ‘supplemental’ release will not have any H-scenes; its job is to finish the story of 0.6, which centers around the dungeon. This release has only a tiny bit of the dungeon; there’s a lot more left, much of which is already made. The supplemental release will also have a few side quests, including the starter for the ‘legendary’ quest chain. I’m not going to put an ETA on it, but you can expect it to take far less time than my normal releases.
If you get through everything (minus the hidden boss), there’s probably around 1.5 - 2 hours of new content. I did a playthrough on my Windows machine and didn’t find the game-crashing bug that always seems to plague my new releases, so maybe this will be my first release that doesn’t need a hotfix!
Having said that, this release probably has bugs. There are circumstances in this release that have the potential to create situations that don’t make sense; I’m pretty sure I caught most of them, but there may be a few that I missed (and my ‘fixes’ may have introduced new bugs). Also, the item that takes you to the recollection room has the potential to screw up the game in interesting ways; I think I caught most of *those*, but a few may have slipped through.
This release might be called ‘The Combat Release’, since I introduced a lot of combat-related systems in it. In spite of that, there isn’t very much actual combat. I created the ‘hidden’ repeatable boss in part to give you something to test out the combat against (I also had a lot of fun making him!). I guarantee if you fight him enough, you *will* find him challenging!
Anyway, thank you very much for the patience and the support. I hope you enjoy the release! As always, please let me know if you find any bugs, and I’m also interested in your thoughts on the combat system and anything else that might come to mind!

You have to have gotten most of the previous scenes in order to unlock 'em. Assuming you have, get a coffee from the coffee shop and go to sleep in your bed. You'll end up in a nighttime guild hall, and you can access the scene from there. You can also get the new Ana scenes through a similar means.

I see there are H scenes with the Val now but I don't know how to get to them.

Yeah, the soldiers were my least favorite of the bunch. I was looking for something colorful, cartoony, and fun. The fact that the artist (Ækashics) also does a lot of stuff that is or can be animated is definitely a plus. The new fire dungeon boss is an example of the kind of stuff I hope to do more of. Basically, I'm out to make the battles more visually interesting, and making the enemies more visually interesting is part of that. (The other part is adding more interesting animations to party abilities, and that’s something I’ll be working on.) It was kind of a challenge, because I had to try to match existing enemies to Ækashics' existing assets, and I wasn't always able to find something I liked. I've also had a bit of trouble with one of the animation plugins, so some monsters that I was gonna make animated didn’t end up that way. In the future, though, I’ll create enemies based on his catalog, so I should have better-looking ones in there.

While I still love the game and the combat mechanics I honestly don't like the look of the enemies especially when you have to fight the drunk knights and the champions the corporal looks like I deformed triangle suit of armor with one eye 3x bigger then the other. And some...most of the other enemies look like an abstract drawing by a 3 year old imo the art for the enemies don't come close to the art for Alex and Ana. But the enemies definitely do make you laugh if that's what you were going for I'll give it that.

Glad you like it :) The length (in turns) was fixed, but I do feel a little bad for tricking people into using items. :(
This game is hilarious! I was crying laughing during that taunt training montage. Also, might want to put an indicator that the dungeon boss isn't meant to be beaten on the first go, ended up using some phoenix downs and sitting there for longer than I needed too.

True's walkthrough covering up through 0.5 is on the 'Community' page. There's no walkthrough for 0.6 that I'm aware of, but if you get everything in True's walkthrough, you'll see hints on how to get 0.6's new scenes in this comment thread. (Seeing 0.6's scenes depends in part on seeing most of the preceding scenes.)
Is there a walkthrough anywhere? I can't seem to get all the scenes :(

Bug: if you enter the area after you've completed Jovi's quest, and then leave it, Shiri and Jovi act as if though they're still there.

Huh. Thanks for the report! Same thing happens to me. (It is a Mac-specific thing, btw.) This is an interesting problem, I'll try to get it sorted out for the hotfix.

Mac version (not sure if that makes a difference) my previous saves didn't transfer. They always have in the past....

Since there's a workaround to the really bad bug (go directly right when you go to meet the Bunnies at the dungeon, NOT down and right), I'll post the hotfix tomorrow. I want a little more time for bug reports to roll in before pushing another one out.

It's the first one with Ana in the tent. Like one of the First H-scenes with Ana. Not related to your new update. Hope that helps. Just started again since you said it would be a good time to.

Hey Proxxie. I think there is a bug with the first H-scene. The last image of the scene just loads as black. Do not know if this just a problem on my end or not.

Anyone have a save with the recall on all scenes I did all the quests playing the game start to finish didn't get anything new, the coffee shop did nothing
