Loving this vampire and the Mucha inspiration (which is one of my favorite artist and I do love other artist’s rendition of his style for horror, fantasy, sci-fi etc.) For the next one could we have the gender role reversed? Some of us are not afraid of strong vampire ladies and would love to be sweeped off our feet by one of them 😇

It can be both actually. The guy is dark, the lady is lighter... The color constraint is not as strict here as in my MTG work <3

Don't worry about that, I would never have a bad reaction towards a feedback when it's given as tactfully as yours. I can totally see how this token would be different from the logical expectation : not as dark, not as gothic as what you can expect from a Vampire. Also, I am aware some of my artistic choices on this Patreon may be surprising every now and then. It is actually one of the reasons why I opened this Patreon : with my job, it's not really possible to express in a very personal way. Of course, I put my own sensitivity in my Magic work, but before everything else, there is the brief, and unless asked otherwise, we are not supposed to explore too specific styles even if we feel like it. After almost 20 years of working only exclusively on commission work, this Patreon came as a bubble of fresh air. My "Magali" style was built thanks to so many influences, and there are so many artistic movements I want to explore. I think it's a constituent element of being an artist. I am many things as an illustrator, and what you are seeing here is one of those things. So, of course, it would be "safer" for me to always go with my usual style, and not take the risk to surprise my members. But as I often say : art is made to give people what they were not aware they may like. I am voluntarily taking the decision to show you guys things beyond what you can expect from me, and what I'm known for. And I respect the fact it may not always win the unanimous support, as much as I especially appreciate your effort to respect what I wanted to do here, even if I'm sorry it didn't match your expectations. We also live in an era, especially in entertainment, where things are calibrated to be homogeneous products to please as much as possible as many people as possible. To me, this is the absolute contrary of art. Art should be the day's instinct, no matter what. And last, keep in mind there will not be only 1 vampire token in this Patreon, or just 1 iteration of any other token actually. As time will go by, more versions will come, all different, and some probably more in tune with your personal preferences <3 That's a long response XD I really thank you for opening this conversation, and thus give me an occasion to talk about some of my values. And thank you for your support to human art <3

Vampires were the tokens I was most excited about from Magali, especially after two years as a Tier 3 supporter — all for the glory of Uncle Markov 🙂 When I realised I had missed the pool but that fate pointed me toward a 1/1 Vampire token, I honestly got very excited. I wasn’t sure whether it would be something to feed Eminence or something else, but either way — a Vampire is a Vampire. When I woke up this morning and saw the result — a 1/1 Vampire with lifelink (white?) — I felt genuinely disappointed with the art, mostly with myself for building such high expectations. I’m not an art judge or a professional, so this is purely a matter of personal preference. That said, after looking at it alongside the brilliant work done so far on every token — the expressions, the shapes, the cohesion with lore — I found myself struggling to connect with this particular piece compared to what we have seen so far from Magali. It is beautiful artwork in its own right, without question. However, for this specific purpose, and in the context of Magali’s previous tokens, I personally find it difficult to understand or connect with the artistic direction taken - for the purpose of a MTG Vampire token. Hopefully I won’t get flamed for sharing my humble opinion, I’m not planning to stop supporting this cause that keeps my mind fed with awesome fantasy art. (still hoping for flat a 1/1 black vamp token :) )
